as far as the movie, i loved it...i'll watch it again and again as the mood hits me. I'm fine with the lack of real answers you would get out of a standard hollywood monster movie. with the online viral campaign, they coulda just stopped at the picture of dead whales on the 1-18-08 site and the audio teaser at the end of the movie to keep us baited and waiting for another viral to start up for the sequel, but they gave us more. more questions not just involving Teddy, but now his sister and a possible CIA agent, a sword symbol, some manga that may or may not tie in with anything, a strange number on a missing teddy poster and at least 10 different numbers on the various versions of the DVD. if this is over, it seems like a bad way to end things. is it possible to have an arg that never ends?

Been thinking about it and I think what we got for the viral with Teddy's sister was just a "bonus" bit tied into the DVD release.

1) The sword logo ties into the label on the DVD with the weird number (and there was only one number, btw, same on all DVDs).
2) The Alyse blog got us looking for more information about Chuai.
3) The extras on the DVD made us realize there was a missing code in the sequence of ARE related extras.
4) Finally, it all ties together with the discovery of a site under the name of the missing code, with a user name from the blog (alysehanssen) and a password (the number from the DVD). The new site gives us the final confirmation that Clover did trash Chuai, as well as some cool pics.

And since then...nothing. Alyse thinks it's fake, then goes offline (probably busted by either CIA or Tagruato). We're left wondering about her fate, much like we wonder about the fate of the other characters whose deaths weren't laid out for us.

It all fits together with the ARE and the movie. My conclusion is that we are at the same place we were before with just some extra information. I doubt we'll see any more viral stuff, at least until they can figure out if/when/how to continue. My guess is that we're done until Cloverfield 2 starts up.

And don't get me started about the manga. Good story, but I'll be flipped if I can figure out when it fits into the ARE/movie timeline.

mentioning the supplemental files on the dvd, which was great in itself...but i was a little dissapointed that none of the usgx files showed the 1-18-08 pictures. seeing as that was a major site for us and our information gathering. it would have been a great way for newcomers to join the online experience that we had. before the movie was released on dvd, i was hoping there would be a complete section of all the viral activity, but oh well

I do, too, Sander. There's so much about Tagruato, Slusho, and TIDO that I want to see brought together cohesively. There's also the question of what happened to Teddy (which, it seems to me, the 'viral makers' were working on).

Anyway, I'm not going to give up just yet. There have been many times where we had to wait months (remember after the movie came out?) for something new.

I have a little hope, but it seems Dennis has given up. But, we have been surprised before, so who knows

I have next to little hope until something new is announced for it. Everything for the viral lead up to money-making events (movie release, dvd release, manga release, etc.), so until a sequel, video game, or maybe even the toy, i see little to no hope for it. Makes little sense for them to continue.

We've heard this before.
This is an Abrams related project, much like Lost and others before it, it's never really over - it may just go dormant with no clue when it will arise again, in some form. Slusho was originally on Alias after all - so everything Arbams related has a legacy.

Remember, they love to drive us batshit insane.

OT!!!!

everyone... watch a re-run of "andromeda strain". but first, punch yourself square in the nose, drink a half a bottle of wild turkey (101, mind you), and eat a pine cone.

then you might be feeling idiotic enough to appreciate how ABSOLUTELY FUCKING AWFUL it was.

but more than likely, you'll just giggle and roll your eyes SLIGHTLY more than you would if you were sober.

awful. just awful. read the book.

Yeah, the book was good, but they made a mistake turning it into a made-for-tv miniseries, or whatever the hell it is. It just has that 'made by sci-fi network' cheesiness to it, even though it aint on the sci-fi channel, lol, n anyone that watches the scifi channel knows what i mean. The speshal effects are just fuckin raunchy in all of their original series shows. And i use the word SPESHAL not SPECIAL, because it IS special, only in a "I ride the short bus" kind of way.

it really did, man. it was just like... wow, i don't even know.

it's like people these days can't make films out of books anymore. look at the shining with jack nicholson. BRILLIANT! they chose what to skip over, and why, and it came out as a movie that you could grasp without having to be a fan of the novel.

and then you have this shit these days, where they try to pack everything in, and it all ends up being so episodic and cheesy seeming. like, they discover something new EVERY FIVE MINUTES!

sadly enough, i've been a big fan of the harry potter novels (save for the last one...). i know that sounds like i'm coming-out, but seriously. i've tried to watch the movies, and it's just so... i dunno. lame.
