Ah that's what happens when you don't actually read for meaning...

Since the previous reordering of the message do not combine segments 10 and 11 into a single segment and an error occurs due to this, I'll post the reordered version using the new segments:

Code:

02) Well I never presume too much, I assume
05) that
14) in science what is known to
01) be possible or not possible, it's always subject to change; after all, scientific laws -
12) they're not really laws, they're not the last word.
09) Science
07) only describes, through their laws, nature. Nature has
04) the last word...nature's last word may often surprise us so I've made it a goal in my life
11) to find those areas where people want something to happen but think that it is impossible, and then I try
13) to figure out how to do it and
03) just often enough i've managed
08) to do precisely that.  For the last several years I've been focusing
10) on holography and how we
06) can extend the boundaries of holography.  Up to this point we've known that we can create real images of objects, virtually, that you could see...

Are we suppose to put it in order or keep it in the order we found it?
It's good we're brainstorming with different ideas.

Some folks are counting words, some are looking at the last word, some are trying to find meaning in the paragraph. Keep on trucking!

After placing them in order, doing word counts and juxtaposing letters in place of the count in alphabetical order, you get the following result:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
hafniaistheley

It's at "isthe" that I realized that words were actually being formed and that I might have been onto something. I then realized that human error could play a role in the result, as it has happened before here, which would lead to the logical conclusion that the L should instead be a K, giving us
hafnia is the key

This leads up to a binomial clue, courtesy Wikipedia:

Not only is hafnium oxide important to optics and high-power laser applications, but the root of the word comes from the latin name for Copenhagen.

Now what?

My thinking is, since it has links to Copenhagen and is described as a "key," the answer could be the password to Erik's camera software, or his computer.

Great job, Kayberry!
I wonder if you would be so kind as to further explain the solve. I like to try to learn how these are done.

Since we've seen Nobelium used for a previous puzzle, I thought this was interesting. Hafnium is the 72nd element on the Periodic Table of Elements. Named from the Latin hafnia for Copenhagen where it was first discovered (already mentioned), and this from wikipedia....
Quote:
Precautions
Care needs to be taken when machining hafnium because, like its sister metal zirconium, when hafnium is divided into fine particles, it is pyrophoric and can ignite spontaneously in air (see Dragon's Breath for a demonstration).

That might explain what happened during Gough's experiment.

Now what?

Perhaps Hafnia will be the key to a cipher?

Yay that the periodic table all makes sense after all!!!

Props for the solve!

So, I know it possible to change the post dates on blogger, but isn't there a way to check when it was actually posted, or when an account was created?

i ask b/c of http://hafnia.blogspot.com , nothing on it yet, just a broken picture link that looks kinda suspicious, but i figured we should cover all the bases...
