Resident Evil Countdown Official Resident Evil ARG? I just visited residentevil.com for some info, been a while, and well... there's a picture there. It's a diagonal shot of a hut or something, like from a camcorder. If you right click the pic and set it to play (set to loop) you can move it around.
Is it a real RE arg? Here's hoping! It's the opening page for the official site, so it's no fan fic if it is.
[EDIT] Moved to N&R --Giskard

It wont move around for me...just flickers. The scene looks like it might've been from RE3 but I didn't see it so can't be sure.
However, in the source there is this:
swfobject.embedSWF("swf/countdown.swf ", "flash", "100%", "99%", "8.0.0", "swf/expressInstall.swf
but whether this was for the RE3 and played out already and is just static or whether they are counting down for something else, like RE4 or something, can't say....worth checking back on though. I liked RE a lot.

Sorry, I should have clarified, residentevil.com is the videogames' official site, not the movies'. Whatever it is undoubtedly has to do with Resident Evil (Biohazard) 5 (which was what I was checking on). Take a look at the trailers that have been released so far, and it's a clear shot of something from that game.
Sorry about the moving picture part, didn't realized i had zoomed it. It won't do it for me unless I do.

Good to see you around J.
Yeah, this is definitely a scene from RE5, in the african village in which the game will take place.
This is interesting to see after Capcom reportedly put a range in which RE 5 would be released (at the end of the current fiscal year which is March 31st, 2009)
I would be greatly surprised to see Capcom to an ARG based on it but a viral campaign has been done for weirder things, so I hope to see something.

I think if anything this is a countdown for the new Resident Evil 5 trailer that's going to premiere on GametrailersTV on May 30th. It will probably show up on the site at that time.
As much as I would love a Resident Evil ARG, a countdown doesn't always mean ARG/Viral. Maybe they'll surprise us with something hidden in the trailer though. Not sure.

I checked this yesterday, and again today - I don't remember seeing it there yesterday, but there's two clocks now, and they're counting up ?

It's not actually counting down (or up o_O; ) to something. Every time you refresh the page the clock rewinds a few seconds and then goes back to counting up again.
I watch it for a few moments (thinking that any second a zombie was going to jump out) and eventually a man walked very slowly across the screen and towards the shelter (which looks like a hollowed out school bus) he stands there for a few moments and then turns back and walks back the way he came.
I've refreshed the page and I've been watching it for several minutes. He hasn't come back yet. This thing isn't just a random loop. Very curious.

just posting a reply to create an actual clickable link
http://www.residentevil.com/
(if you just copy-paste the whole line from your address bar, it will become a link automatically, without the need for you to insert tags; if you really feel the need to click the URL button, notice the line of text which appears to display the example code for how it is used)
[ url = http://url ] displayed hypertext [ / url ]
(spaces added to prevent conversion)
also, in addition to /swf/countdown.swf there is /swf/countdownBP.swf embedded in it (not that this helps anyone)

Why is there a bar with <script></script> at the bottom of the screen?

What are the two clocks saying for everyone else? I only ask because last night there was a difference of about 20 hours, and now there's only four:
73:42:xx
77:06:xx
(as of 11:03 GMT)

Right now is 16:35 GMT ( 5.5 hours later )
the clocks say:
80:08:xx ( 6.5 hours later )
70:27:xx ( 7.5 hours earlier, despite counting up. )
I declare these clocks all screwed up. By using two tabs, you can have 2 of them running, and you can get different times on each. However, refreshing generally will result in later times, so it is indeed advancing. The seconds on the top clock seem to be the same between the two tabs, but the minutes differ by different amounts as i refresh.

Something new again! This scared the crap out of me actually -
I was looking for the guy to come walking across again, only this time someone (unseen) suddenly picks the camera up and repositions it to look down a street. Weird. Also, the lower clock has stopped at 72:00:00.
*EDIT* It also appears that the upper clock is now 'live', as refreshing and having the site open on multiple tabs all give me the same time now:
96:37:xx
(as of 11:06 GMT)
Wonder what happens when it hits 99:59:59?

well whatever is going to happen (if anything) it's going to happen soon. The clock is already at 98:17:xx

It looks like it'll hit 99:59:59 at 14:30 GMT.
Bizarrely, if you leave the page open, the timer actually runs faster than real time (I think it occasionally jumps a minute), but refreshing the page brings you back to the 'true' time.
*EDIT* - The countDOWN has begun. 72 hours. So... trailer, then?
