As to what will happen, I have no clue. 220 Danas show up and take over the world? Free games will be given out? Who knows? It'll either be something really lame, like flyers saying "Be sure to buy your Halo 2" on the one hand, or the launch of an incredible ARG the likes of which we've never seen on the other hand.

Be sure to buy your Halo 2??? A CRUMMY COMMERCIAL??? Son of a b*tch!

Man, I'm glad somebody got that ref. Wink

Anyway, I still stand by my spec, as it's the only thing that makes sense so far.

If you're thinking that there's a puzzle here in a pattern of coordinates zigzagging back and forth around the country, that when graphed out will show the solution, then I say go at it.

I know I'm taking the chance of ending up looking like Linus and the Great Pumpkin, but hey, I'm willing to risk it.

Prove me wrong. Smile

Personally I think "nothing will happen at these coordinates, they are as a group merely another aspect of the story" makes more sense Smile. It's the simpler explanation, and it fits the current evidence (or lack thereof).

When the robots start dancing, will you just watch, or dance with them?

The robot dancing inside the fence at the shuttle bus garage facility at National Airport is liable to get his/herself arrested. And as noted previously, I will not be there to witness it.

Now I suppose there could be an I.P. address that maps to the garage (bad mechanics! stop playing games and get back to work!), but NO library, national monuments, video store or indeed any store anywhere nearby. Cameras? Sure - taking pictures of me as I cruise around airport property trying not to look like a terrorist.

The only thing I could imagine them having enough support for, would be a direct marketing endevour, such as handing out halo demos or something... but then why would they pick such a bad distribution of locations?

I really don't think you could compare this to an every day marketing endevour. A bad distribution of locations to a marketing strategist may not be a bad distribution of locations in terms of where the players of ilovebees are. If this is some sort of country-wide marketing live event, I don't think it will really matter where the spots are. It will make the news that 220 robots were dancing with giant stuffed bees while handing out copies of Halo 2 in 220 different locations around the US. That would get them more attention than the few hundred people that show could ever give them.

I'll have to agree that some of the locations do seem a little too odd - like the airport hangar. Some are more easy to explain. Why would they have two right across the street from each other in Chicago? Well, Chicago's a crowded city. If you set up a booth giving away anything free, I'm sure more people than a couple of ilovebees fans are going to show up.

My thinking on this right now is that there is some sort of live event happening there now (like camera's watching the place that one of our character's can see us through) or something will happen there on the 24th. Or maybe it's a big joke and the PMs wanted us to get outside, away from our computers and get some fresh air. Razz

Ok, I'm not sure if I can actually get this back on topic but I'll try... I think vpisteve has a very good point and here is why I agree. I've been a follower of Bungie for a long time and thats how I, like many others, got caught up in this. I have been following much of what Bungie has been saying (next to nothing) about ILB. Most notable was Frankie's post on the Bungie.net forum, which you can see here

http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=446661&viewreplies=true&postRepeater1-p=13

I find his reference to "an OXM special" interesting. I would also cite the moderator of the forum over at halo.bungie.org. He has restricted most bee-related discussion on his forum and here is his explanation...

http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/beetalk.shtml

Althought he is not officially with Bungie, he works closely with them on fan-related topics and is what I would call "in-the-know". I believe his last sentence...

"I'm not going to go so far as to ban bee discussion here - but I will ask that you keep it Halo-related, and that you keep your mind open to the possibility that some ad agency somewhere thought it might be cool to pump up the Halo fans with an AI-type puzzle, without considering that Bungie fans might expect more than they're willing (or able) to give."

This could be very indicitive of what is really going on here... that Bungie is potentially involved indirectly, but the PM's are either Microsoft employees or some third-part ad agency. In my opinion these pieces of evidence support vpisteve's opinion...that something will "happen" at these locations. In my opinion, as I've metioned in another INCREDIBLY LONG thread, it is highly likely that billboards, or some other piece of prominant advertising will be displayed at these locations. However, many of the locations are questionable given their remote-ness. Anyways... tycho-out.

As always, Steve, I love your positive attitude and reasoning - this topic included.

But if you'd like to tell me that there might be some people willing to schlep out to the middle of nowhere, to um, possibly hang out all day, for ... what, a 24 hour period? And, what if they can't find someone to go with them? Do they go alone? To the middle of nowhere? Is that safe? Advisable?

Also, a flash mob at the Sears Tower? Our boys in blue might not look too kindly upon a motley geek gaggle descending upon a major landmark - esp. if that group is ... waiting ... for ... something ... or, several of them are whipping out GPS's and connecting to wifi and conferring with each other excitedly, etc.

I just don't see the practicality, at this point in time, of having us show up to these real-life locations. Individually, some of them look ripe for some sort of interaction, but the collective belies that resoundingly.

Okay... this just went up on the wiki GPS_Locations...

Big Forest in the middle of nowhere slightly off 30th
Looked at Microsoft's terraserver and found the exact GPS locs to be right in the middle of that forest

I just can't see MS bothering to coordinate an event there. Not that they couldn't... I'm just having a hard time imagining how some PM justified it to the $$$ guys...

That's a good point, but what if M$... er, the PM's... notified the lovely CPD that there was going to be droves of dainty dorks (not as cool as motley geek gaggle, but at least I tried) chasing a game near the Tower when the countdown concluded. I mean, donate a new network of computers to the city and I'd bet they'd let M$... er, the PM's... do whatever they want!
