Dutch, by the way ... (or probably Flemish).
The quiz on Eli Hunt's podcast page does not name Hendrik van Waalen, but "Axel Frend" as the "well-known metals worker who made the Lost Rings sculpture". Significance?

And yet another question:
Why isn't Pierre de Coubertin mentioned by his name in the Belgian newspaper article? Why the mysterious paraphrases ("the founder of the International Committee/of the games")? Maybe van Waalen gave some hints pointing to his true client, but their were misinterpreted as referenced to Coubertin?!

Yeah! And I missed that one too! Sophia doesn't like a trick question!

What caught my attention is the fact that - at least to my ears - the name "Axel" sounds more Scandinavian than Belgian/Dutch, which made me think of the Danish guy Eli mentioned. "Frend", on the other hand, doesn't look very Danish - "friend" would be "ven", and I can't think of any other word resembling this name at the moment.

Someone should tell Eli that his webmaster screwed up that question and see what he says, heh ...

I did, as soon as I saw it. Wrapped it into remarks insinuating it might be a secret message, though.

From Eli Hunt's FAQ Page:
Quote:
Q: How do I find the lost ring?
A: For the last time, I have no idea what you're talking about.
He knew it all along or found out about it just now?

Yeah, he knows. He's just being evasive.

That was there from the get-go, back when he still insisted to Ariadne that he couldn't help her (actually, it was there even before she flew there to confront him, hence her telling us at that point "I know he knows more than he's letting on!"). At this point he's admitted he knows more, but I think he'll leave that as-is. Remember, when he came back into contact with us recently, he apologized for having been unreachable for so long but explained to Jasper that "It was essential that it seem I had abandoned the cause." Changing that part of the FAQ would not be consistent with abandoning the cause, so I'm sure he'll leave it there to "keep up appearances." Or maybe he's just lazy .

Dear Canzonett,
I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed The Lost Rings podcast.
Axel Frend knows who he is, and I hope the error will catch his attention.
Sincerely yours,
Eli Hunt
