[HOLO] Videos!
from Erik's login

Nicole got us the password, so let's start watching!

Er....there's like a bajillion videos. Uh-oh! Well, let's break it down, then. Let's look at a filename:

CCTV2_NB_5-6_1106_NTSC_2Mbit.mpg

This tells us some stuff about a file. The CCTV2 and NTSC_2Mbit are boring stuff about formatting. The 5-6_1106 is a time stamp: it's from May 6 at 11:06. And the NB? That's our boy Nate B's cube! Other locations are as follows: EM{1,2,3}, Eliza Marks' office; GP, George Poulopatis' office (more like cell); Patio, patio; Recep, reception; hall{2,3,6}, hallways; EA{1,2}, Erik Andersen; ELot, east (?) parking lot; A3, Noelle's cube; and R4, the restroom (!).

Here's my brief rundown of what happens in each video. Videos that show Nate's videos from different angles will be italicized. I've also put in bold those that I think are actually interesting and not really boring.

5-06 1106: "Hey guys - this is Eliza"
5-08 0937: IP Phone is great
5-09 1020: First paycheck
5-09 1555: Sexytime (of course)
5-12 0920: Welcome in
5-12 1001: No beer!
5-12 1913: Chair races
5-14 1052: private enum sortaxis
5-15 1831: Kiss goodbye
5-16 1431: Mail call? Argument? Who knows?
5-16 1627: Turn off the camera!
5-19 1542: What're you working on? Oh, it's secret
5-20 1537: Voicemail
5-21 1026: "Eliza is not who I thought she was"
5-22 1603: "There's a camera right on my desk"
5-23 1311: "Things are starting to pick up"
5-23 1817: Erik & Eliza re: George?
5-25 1842: "Because I can taste it"
5-26 1207: "Erik, you---DAMMIT"
5-27 1623: Reporter on the take
5-28 1453: George, you gotta pick up the pace. Or else.
5-28 1723: George working
5-28 1832: Working late, finds a camera
5-29 1925: I think I did it

Several people in chat have noted that these files don't work in standard programs like Windows Media Player or QuickTime. This is sadly true. The one player that seems to reliably work is VLC, which is luckily downloadable for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Give it a shot!

Also, I and others have had trouble with two videos (hall3 from 5-14 and the long receptionist one) having the picture stop but audio continue. I don't exactly know the problem, but I have a fix (this works if you've downloaded the video - I dunno about streaming it). Go into the preferences for VLC, select Input/Codecs, then Access Modules, and then File. Check the "advanced" checkbox (in the lower left corner on the Mac version). Change the "Caching value in ms" value to something bigger, like 1500. Hopefully it'll work now. Be warned: for the receptionist one, I had to go up to 15000. At that level it takes a little while to get going, but it works. I personally don't think the receptionist video's worth watching, though - nothing happens that I can tell except for Erik being nervous and seemingly waiting for someone.

I am going to download and save all the Nathan spy vids. Maybe we all should download a different group of vids, in case our access to andersen's IP fails. I would get Nathan, someone else would get eliza, a third person would get...the toilet...etc.

Mpeg? Argh. What a crappy format for his videos, no wonder they go out of sync/blank/aren't openable in standard programs.

Will watch when I'm home from work, of course.

So I copied the file directory info from the site and dumped it in Excel, allowing me to put each segment of the filenames in a different column After sorting chronologically by the date and time in the filename , some odd discrepancies show up comparing the filename date/time with the "last modified" date/time. I've marked those with an asterisk below (unimportant columns removed for clarity and note that Excel automagically converted the dates to a different format):

Code:

Also I was musing out loud in chat whether there is any related significance to the fact that Nathan insisted on showing us his Memorial Day holiday for 5/26...

Finally, notice that the last two files have a modification time in the (near) future..ooo.

EDIT: Crap, nevermind. The modification dates have been changed, apparently to fix these discrepancies.

I still find it strange that http://mastercardwinahome.com redirects to here. Maybe the ad agency was using it earlier and it was hosted on the same IP? Or something?

Plus, I wonder if we can get into .bash_history

It gives a list of commands run on a linux/mac box.

In case anyone is still having issues viewing/can't get VLC to work, I've opened at least a few files thus far with Windows Media Player Classic + Quicktime Alternative. Can't find an official site and don't want to steer anyone to a shady codec site, so if you're at your wits end, try Googling it. =) ETA: Though now, I'm not getting any sound. Bugger.

Off to fish through these vids.

In CCTV2_EA1_5-28_1453_NTSC_2Mbit, Andersen mentions that Holomove is going public in 30 days. So barring any catastrophic events, June 27 should be an exciting day.

Here's a link to the "bathroom scene" I uploaded to my flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/chippee/2536926950/

One thing that would be cool, if they have a youtube pro account or something is upload the videos there, then one of us can import / link them into a timeline on dipity.com

see this for an example

I think it could be pretty neat.

EDITS:
here we go! see the videos that Mapmaker uploads on a timeline!

For those people who can't download everything, I'm uploading all the videos to an account I created for this on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/holomovies
I'm working my way through the videos and have 20 or so up so far.

More importantly, check out EM3 at that timestamp. It's our friend AJ!

Now that you mention it, Dr. Gough's note (from the Copenhagen Airport image) indicated someone could be trusted in the company... and there's been plenty of speculation that RK is actually AJ... has anyone asked Nate if he knows AJ, or has talked to him?

EDIT: Now that I think about it, this question probably belongs in the [HOLO] [Email] RandomKnowledge thread, so I posted it there as well... so please forgive the double-posting. Embarassed
