[City Labyrinth] Madrid, Spain

Ok, this will be the thread to try to make a good design for the labyrinth in Madrid if it finally is one of the knot cities.
First of all, some considerations about the city:

Madrid is pure chaos. The layout of the city is simply horrible. Most of its streets were built long ago, and then they had no sense of "parallelism". So most of the city is just a bunch of streets crossing themselves.
Some parts of the city are squared, though. The area I've built my desings in is one of the largest parts where streets are logical.

So, here are the three designs I have this far. For now, people prefer the second version of the "on foot" one, but nothing is decided yet, so if you have any suggestion please tell me.

All 3 looks great =) Especially v2. But if you want to use cars, I would think you should drive v2, and where it is imposible, to let someone go the way you can't drive and meet again where it's possible. Or do it complete on bikes Wink

I personally prefer v1, because the starting point is more in the center and it is easier to determine the number of circuits.

I like both the first and the second version - the bulgy part in the third one irritates me, although that one is most conform to the symmetry of Madrid's street pattern. If you force me to choose a favourite, I'd take number 2 - maybe the starting point could be centered a bit more by starting on Calle de Castello just as you suggested, only not between Calle Ayala and Calle de Don Ramón de la Cruz, but instead between Calle de Don Ramón de la Cruz and Calle de José Ortega y Gasset?

The Munich team (AUZ, Falco, I) seems to have developped into a group of highly qualified experts within the last 24 hours, judging from our comments here! Very Happy

After reading your suggestions and looking for some more info, I have been able to draw a 5 circuit classical labyrinth in the same zone. Take a look and tell me if you like it. Also, I've modified v2 as you suggested, I'll upload a pic too so you can compare.

Ok, so Madrid seems to finally be one of the knot cities, and the trackstick is arriving tomorrow, so I need to finish my calculations. If I have read correctly, omph strength is (C*S)/6, where C is number of circuits and S is width in Stadia.

Now, I got a mail from Kai and Eli, telling me they like this design:
Madrid Labyrinth

As you can see, I drew some lines to get the width and height. I guess the width for this labyrinth is actually its height, so it would be about 1363 meters. That makes, taking the "common estadia" of 185.119m, 7.36 estadia.

Then, being a 5 circuit labyrinth, OMPH strength would be:
(5*7.36)/6=6.13 somethings. If anyone knows what unit has this measure, you're welcome. I guess it must be something like omphies or similar Razz

Can any Sofia or similar out there please check my calculations?

Just to give an update about the labyrinth in Madrid... Houston, we have a problem.

Transportists are on strike on Spain. That means I won't be able to get the trackstick until... who knows.

Yesterday a friend of mine told me: do you imagine the world being destroyed because the transportist are on strike? Smile

Finally, I've done the labyrinth... but not without a lot of problems.
First of all, here's an album with some pics we took along the way:
Album

And now, for the problems... the biggest one was getting the trackstick to work properly. Not only it recorded some very weird locations, making the path look horrible, it also stopped working just 1 hour after we start... I mean, it stopped recording locations. When I got home later that day, it said I had stopped for more than 2 hours in one spot... wich is not what happened. And the whole labyrinth took us more than 3 hours, walking all the way.

I have already mailed Eli and Kai, asking for what to do. I hope the rest of the worlds are ok with just the proofs I got of our walk there.

Anyway, there were some interesting things during the trip. First of all, I saw the USA embassy here in Madrid. I didnt' know it was here Razz
And second, I found the church of St Monica...
I also passed by the Archeological Museum, where I had my ninja mission some time ago, so I got a pic there too, just as a memento Razz

Congratulations on finishing the labyrinth, Tenchizard ! We had technical difficulties with the Trackstick in Paris too, but that's a lesson learnt for whenever we use it again - or for the day when we have to run the labyrinth again because it looks too weird *shivers*. Isn't it nice how going on a labyrinth shows you place you didn't know existed ?

As for the Trackstick saying you stopped somewhere and that that was the end...check the first tab, where it just lists all the individual points (not the "routes" or the "tracks")...for the Toronto labyrinth, because the walkers put the Trackstick down for a while while they took photos of and played around in a skate park, the Trackstick decided that when they resumed moving, it was a new route. I had to specify a range of points (which spanned 2 "routes" but ignored the beginning of the first one--where we were just getting into position, as well as getting lost Smile--and the end of the last one--where we were just driving back to get a better photo/video and then returning to the local mall for lunch). Not a big deal, but something to keep your eyes open for. Unfortunate though if it did indeed stop recording Sad.

I tried, but no luck. The device did really stop recording points, and the last one was taken around 11:24am, though we finished at about 4pm. Actually, the last point says I stopped there for more than 2 hours...

Perhaps you should try to download the data again from the trackstick to your computer. Perhaps something went wrong during the data transfer.

And, second, perhaps you can port your .tsf File her. So people (e.g. me) could doublecheck if there is really no second route.

Nah, I tried and downloaded again, but there's nothing else in the trackstick. Also, how can I upload the data? can I mail it to you? I think I got your mail somewhere around, so I'll try sending it...

It should also be possible to attach it here as a message. Because *.tsf is not allowed - just rename it to *.txt.

e.g. Here is my Munich tsf File (renamed to .txt)
