First of all, the bullet to the head scene was fake and that clip has floated around the net for years.

Second, yes, the throat cutting scene was very real. Welcome to reality. Welcome to the kinds of things that Chechnyans have been doing to Russians for years (and vice versa). Welcome to what happens around the world every day.

This ARG, if it even is one, is very dark. Yes. But I don't feel it is promoting the things you are seeing in that flash movie. Quite the contrary. I think it is showing you the horrors of humanity and the s*it we do to each other. Listen to the NIN song used as the soundtrack of the video. This isn't saying, "Hey, this s*it is cool," it's saying, "Look how messed up we are as a race of people, as a species, as whatever."

It comes across to me as an art statement mixed with some instructions to create some kind of counterculture buzz. It seems less like an ARG to me at least at this point.

What makes me leery is the mere mention of them being anything like a terrorist organization. That will draw the kind of attention they don't want.

That Chechnyan throat cutting video has been around for years. Welcome to the atrocities of war. The creator of this video just happened to package all of man's sins, hatred, and sickness into one video. Yes, it's not pretty. But I think it's making a statement. And that statement is NOT promoting the things you see in the video.

I may be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

This video, this site, all of this is telling you what? To FEAR THE MACHINE. Good advice. Ignoring the machine is far more dangerous. Sure, you don't see all the bad, frightening stuff going on... until one day it crosses your path and steps into your world. Here in the states we were ignorant to so much of this kind of thing until 9/11. We thought this world was fine and we were safe from what went on "over there" until it was dumped into our laps.

If what is on that site bothers you, I'd advise simply not returning. But the things they showed you happen every day, all around the world.

If you're looking for sci-fi, fantasy, escapist entertainment, I have the feeling that this... whatever it is, is not for you.

This kind of reaction reminds me of when I first heard of the Silverladder ARG and people thought that was either promoting drug use or trying to convert people to some religion (two rather contradictory things, no?). I think people are reacting far too quickly.

Although the creator of this video may not feel obligated to put a warning at the beginning, there is no reason that Unfiction shouldn't. I've tagged the thread title, original post, and links to the video with a bright, bold warning about the violence. Until a final determination is made about this thread, please allow the warnings to remain.

Although this is meta territory, I think it bears saying here: you can make the argument that it's a grown up world out here on the internet and goatse and beheading videos lurk behind every URL. The reality is that the internet is what we make of it, and we have the ability to change its course if we like. I'm sure /b/ is familiar with this concept.

I have said that video is and I will continue to, but I am hear to play and if this is what the PM wants me to see. I am sure there is a reason for it and will watch. Yes, I agree that putting a warning on the thread is a good idea. But if you click on that link it is your issue, not mine on what you think of it and I would like to kindly say sorry that I am a messed up person and want to see where this goes. 4chan has had a bad name put to it from a small group of people, a lot of good though has come from that community, and this is an arg from some one from there it should be interesting. Any way I am tring to say, I respect your opinion but censorship is not they way this site should go when it comes to arg's.
