Good news. The courthouse itself did not get damaged.
From studiotour.com, the following structures were affected.
* King Kong attraction soundstage (the fire spread from adjacent buildings via the roof, so the sprinkler systems were defeated)
* Courthouse Square (at least two sides of the square are destroyed - the courthouse itself, once again, has been spared). Ghost Whisperer production will be affected.
* New York Street
* New England Street (including church with tall spire)
* Video Vaults adjacent to New York Street (at the time of writing, these are still burning). As duplicate copies are kept elsewhere, no material is believed to have been lost forever. The film vaults are elsewhere and were not affected.

The link has a map of the affected area.
This isn't the first time the backlot has caught fire. The same area burned in 1990 and was rebuilt. The major loss here was the music copies (many originals) that were stored in the Vault as well as the King Kong exhibit.

What does this have to do with Cloverfield? Feel free to pop up out of the archive section to one of the active forums for general topics such as this.

interesting to note.. the 1990 fire destryoyed the same area, and also spared the courthouse from BTTF
Same with the smaller 1997 fire...
Guess that lightning strike in the 50s made the area a fire magnet somehow...

Euchre, while I applaud your efforts in making sure such is posted in the right place...
Do you really want to subject the rest of this forum to those 4?

They are members of unFiction forums, not just "The Cloverfield Forum". They should expect to participate in the whole of the site like others have.

I respect just about everything you post euchre, but that was one of the dumbest things i've ever read. A huge majority of the people that post in this forum do not post in the others because, plain and simple, the cloverfield ARE is wayyyyy different from actual ARGs.
Perhaps it wasn't what you said, but the fact that you said "expect." Good God dude, we're posting in a forum about a movie, not being subjected to torture. We're not "expect"ed to do jack shit.

If you look at the history of "ARGs" the very first was a promotion for a film, that being "The Beast" which was an interactive viral campaign for the film A.I. That being the case, an 'actual ARG' if referred to by semantics of pedigree alone should clearly include the Cloverfield viral campaign. Of course the narrowing thinking about what is and isn't an ARG is an old and drawn out topic, but if you look at SpaceBass' article about it you see how very broad the genre of Chaotic Fiction is, and how vague the boundaries are. Many console video games have more elaborate storylines than some ARGs, and of course those video games have plenty of puzzles to solve. The only difference is the semantic of setting. The attitude that Cloverfield is so different (on both sides of the situation) is why there is such a huge division and such an adversarial demeanor to dealings between the Cloverfield forum and the forum as a whole.
When I say they should expect to participate in the whole forum, I mean they should expect to have the welcome to access every other area of the site that fans of other ARGs and CFs also enjoy. The expectations upon them as to how they behave should be the same too, so if what they do is accepted here it should be accepted anywhere in the forum. It's just a matter of equity on behalf of all parties.
Funny you should bring up the topic of torture. Is the implication that suggesting people in this forum get around all of uF is subjecting the rest of uF to 'torture'?
Thanks for having faith in me up to this point. In various arenas I am not always understood 'in my own time', but down the road it's often clearer.

No need for the history of ARGs. The Beast is way different than the viral campaign we have been presented, plain and simple.
As for your explanation on the WELCOME to participate in the entire site, i agree. Welcome is a much better word than should be expected to .
As for torture, now that certain members have had their accounts disabled and/or have left, the pain is subsiding...for the time being. Until another n00b thinks that the pic on 1-18-08.com does not show whales.
