I like the one in Sheepshead Bay particularly. For the record-- I will be in New Jersey later this June for a week or so, and I might be able to get into New York and do a labyrinth.

These are actually really cool. I really like the Greenwich Village one. I think doing one in Manhattan would probably be easier for people to get to than doing one in one of the outer boroughs (the other two are in Brooklyn, which is a bit harder for people perhaps to access from the New York metropolitan area than Manhattan is).

I'm definitely game for helping out in this though.

EDIT: Actually-- I'm drawing an NY labyrinth as well, and do they have to be 7 circuit? It's going to be kinda tough to do that....

How about the size? Is it possible to run/jog/speedwalk through the course? So we could get an idea how big it should be.

And would you prefer if we strategically place the start in Central Park and it would end in Bryant Park?

It's possible to do something in Midtown - the areas are perfectly like a grid. But the city is also wider at that point. Downtown might be better for that reason (towards the bottom tip). A lot of the ones that have been proposed are way too big though! I definitely think it should be done in Manhattan - and we're going to have a crash course in Manhattan blocks right now!

The vertical ones are the avenues, the horizontal ones are the streets. From one street to another, (such as 28th Street to 29th Street), it's about a normal city block. The avenues are another story. They are very spread apart - at least the length of 2 city blocks, if not close to 3. You will have a lot of tired people if you consistently use the avenues! Many of the proposals stretch across the entire width of Manhattan - that's miles wide! :O

I will be more than willing to figure out a proposal for this labyrinth when I have time. I don't really know how to manipulate Google maps to propose a result, though. :\ Anyone willing to explain to me how they did it?

Log in using your gmail account before heading to googlemaps.

Below the google logo you'll see a tab "My Maps" beside the "Search Results" tab, click it.

Click the link "Create new map" and you'll see 4 new icons on the map, just on the right side of the navigation arrows.

Click on the broken line icon to start making those paths. This takes a little getting used to so just play with it for awhile and don't forget to save it.

After you're done, click the "My Profile" on the upper right side of the page. You'll be directed to your Maps. Right-click the title of the map and copy the link location. And that's the linky to your map.

Don't forget Kai's tip that tall buildings can screw up GPS (keep the device from getting a line of sight to a satellite).

I would love to be involved in a NY labryinth. But I think we will have to do it out of Manhattan as the GPS just won't work here. What about Brooklyn? There are loads of places there and it is just over the bridge from Manhattan.

Plus... we don't need cars here in New York to get around. We walk or take public transit - buses should be equal to cars.
