well i know the second part of it (or atleast how to solve it, once we have the first)

im gonna say well have to go down the rows like 1a 2b
but it will be 1*letter that corresponds with 1*, 2 *letter that corresponds with 2*, etc...

so each row of the grid will provide 1 letter for the final solution.

are some of the numbers dates? will we be spending hours on wikipedia searching for specific events in those years? haha

and even though i say "haha" at that, i'm mostly serious.

edit:
also, though this has nothing to do with dates, for letter D, i searched "TT" and found the Isle of Man TT, which is a motorcycle race held in the Isle of Man, which is in the UK. the race starts in the town of Douglas, which could be the "d" in the "N of the D" part. eh? eh?
