I just think that, for example, at the front door of the Sears Towers a copy of Halo 2 wouldn't last long enough for someone playing ilovebees to find it. I think it would be snatched up within... oh, maybe 2 seconds? So no.

Let's be a little more open minded........ In a public place there are many spots to hide or blend in.....especially something as small as a video game. It's not as though it would be laid on the ground if this were to happen.

Am I the only one getting tired of people thinking there's going to be a demo/full release of Halo 2 on August 24th when it was CLEARLY stated that there would be NO early release and NO demo of Halo 2 before November 9th ?

Listen........ How can any date from this day on be considered EARLY when the game's been pushed back how many times?

No. I think the likelihood of a Halo 2 disk coming out anytime before, oh, say, November 9th, is similar if not equal to the likelihood of a giant meteor coming down and crashing on our heads within the next couple weeks.
And yes, I can just imagine the security nightmare and thousands of rabid Halo fans rush into the Sears Tower and dig through the planters looking for demo disks of their coveted Xbox game. Remember, in the interest of national security, "report all suspicious activity." Microsoftee would love to see all of its Xbox fans and customers arrested for being dorks playing in the dirt. But please, don't allow me to dissuade you.
I'll be sleeping in. I'm too prissy for dirt digging. Plus, I have no Xbox.
EDIT - to add: And if I see this thread continuing, I will lock it and beat you all with large sticks. And then choke your puppies. - SG

'Early' meaning before the announced release date. Why would they announce a release date 3 months later than their planned release date? What would they gain from releasing Halo 2 on an unsuspecting mass of players ? Confusion, loss of profit etc... the hype machine just got started for Halo 2. They wouldn't release it early for all the money in the world.

The sad thing is, I can see it happening

I can also envision drooling and foaming at the mouth. Kind of like that one movie... 28 Days Later.
Yeah. Only about Xbox, not a plague.

The hype machine just got started? Where have you been? I remember the hype created by small paragraphs in gaming magazines describing Halo 2 with little information a long time ago.
Anyway, while those of you with narrow minds completely exclude others' ideas, especially while no one knows what the countdown means, I'll just wait 'til it runs out.

Oh, say, I don't know, over at the Bungie weekly updates? Let me quote you a couple lines, since you obviously haven't been there.
Quote:
I've sorta been following the fuss - too busy to really get into it, but Halo 2 will still release on Nov. 9th in the US and most other places, and Nov. 11th in the UK. Nor will we release a playable demo, anytime soon. In fact, we're so busy with the game that there's no chance we'll even think about a playable demo until after Halo 2 ships. And that is official. It isn't happening folks. The game is however, happily on schedule for November 9th. As this week's update will demonstrate.

We've got a lot more events coming up, near and far, as the Halo 2 hype machine picks up momentum.
