[SPEC?] Googling 'axons+bees' - interesting reading

I don't understand a lot of it, as it deals with neuroscience and is written in sci-speak.

But much of it seems to cover bees and other insects' use of axons and neural pathways to aid in navigation, especially learning the best paths for reaching a goal... by incorporating data from previous attempts. A'la, choosing the quickest/safest/most rewarding path.

Most likely has nothing to do with solving the GPS puzzles or any others but for those getting their bee on today, might spark some thoughts.

you're probably right, its not related... BUT

i just want to say that "getting your bee on" is now my new favorite phrase

(while reading and posting the ilb forum)
"honey, what are you doing?"
"just gettin' my bee on"

Hmm, interesting. Bees are known for their dances and their pathfinding (as a machine learning researcher, the idea of learning paths seems more interesting to me, too), for their secret symbols that encode a lot of information to other bees, and for their stripes which can identify different types of bee.

Bees were chosen very carefully. They're so relevant. But what can we learn from them? Wink

Hi, heres a first post for you. sorry if it's troutable, i searched some and didn't see anything along this lines.... i guess this is meta/spec.

I was reading some info after google-ing axons+bees as ilovecheese suggested, and something occurred to me. let me drop some background. i picked up halo a while ago and never opened it, untill this ilovebees thing started( i've messed around with some ARG's before, i spectated beast, got into the AI thing a little, even got into majestic for a bit). i plowed through it in a weekend just to get a grip on the plot. so using what happened there and the boards/wiki, i got a hunch on the coords.

I think its somthing were not going entirely solve just yet. I think its starting to ramp up to a stronger tie-in with halo mythology. We know the following from halo, and from confirmed information about halo 2:

  • cortana and master chief are heading home to earth with the index needed to fire off a halo.
  • 343 Guilty Spark survived halo's destruction
  • His primary function/motivation was to stop the spreading of the flood through firing off halo
  • He refers to Human civilation as the missing time in the Forerunners history, and acquires it all (how specifically escapes me at the moment, i think he pulls it from either a ship or chief's armor...)
  • He understands how the covenant works
  • The covenent are a zealotous culture, highly susceptable to "divine" influence
  • Halo 2 centers around the covenant invading earth, and another halo comes into play

So, is it possible that what we are seing with ILoveBees.com is the process of how the covenant discover the location of earth?

My theory: Spark knows where earth is, through our archives, knows how the covenant work, and knows where other halos are. He needs the index to fire it off, and doesn't care about humanity's survival.

we could assume that bees = covenant, which would tie in the concept of axons. it would also explain the seeming randomness of locations, since the relevance lies in the fiction we haven't even bee exposed to yet.

so then, I think spark is leading the covenant to earth, to do his dirty work for him. since he's still all about destroying the flood. this could go further, (i.e. wilder spec) and identify one of the chars as spark himself.

maybe the coords will coincide with points of invasion, or maybe they are designed to point the covenenant at where the index is.

i know its wild spec, but this has to tie into the halo world at some point. i would't be surprised if some puzzles presented here carry over to actuall halo 2 gameplay/events. maybe we'll even see landmarks conected to coords in maps in halo2.

ok, done know with the ranting.

no doubt this is involved with Halo 2.... will it end up being about MC and cortana? probably not, this game takes place in the halo universe but these games usually don't tie in to the main characters of the movie/game it's tied in to....

Im not saying this directly refers to cortana and chief, i dont think they are trying to talk to us. Im just thinking that this is a lead in, possible to events between H1 and H2. As far as i know, as of now, the covenant don't know where earth is. Theres a lot of clues to suggest that this may be leading to the process of their discovery of earth.

indeed...
aweseome stuff

i think the best point made is that, once more gaps are filled in, some of these things (like the GPS coords) will make a ton more sense.

the best guesses i've seen so far re: how the pieces of the puzzle might change are..

1. some coordinates will be switched out for new ones. could happen more than once, slowly bringing the 'real' picture into focus

2. more coordinates will be added, possible outside the U.S.

we'll have to wait and see, but i applaud running the ARG/ILB stuff through the filter of Halo 1 to at least get a foothold on some story elements.

"Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute there remains no being to improve and no direction is set for possible improvement: and when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. In the first stage of life the mind is frivolous and easily distracted, it misses progress by failing in consecutiveness and persistence. This is the condition of children and barbarians, in which instinct has learned nothing from experience."
