Wow! That's awesome... Did you have a fun time retrieving it for us? Have you gotten yourself caught up in the game yet? Hopefully this won't be the last we hear from you!

The Search

You must search for treasure that doesn't exist.

Begin in Antwerp, where the five rings were first uncovered. Look for the things that we left.

You will know our things by the way we left nothing about ourselves in them. One wants to be absolutely anonymous in this world, especially if one doesn't live in it.

Search for the index of the great mystery.* Search for the people who asked:** "Who would make the thing of the most beauty, of the greatest significance--and then would immediately take it apart?"

One world will wonder, but the other worlds will know.

"Wonder is the beginning of wisdom." So said the Ancient Greeks.

The work of art that amazed Antwerp in 1920 will make you wise during the year when time stops.

Remember: There is no sixth ring. Nevertheless, you must find it.

*I'm pretty certain this is a typo: it should be "Serĉu indikon de granda mistero." which would mean "Search for an indication of the great mystery."

**I'm not entirely sure how this sentence is supposed to be translated, as the wording is really wierd. I'm pretty sure it's saying something more along the lines of "In your search, you must ask yourself:"

Yippieh! Great work, Arun!

This sounds like some sort of Zen story - "There is no sixth ring. Nevertheless, you must find it."

I like the reflections about the fundamental meaning of wondering as the origin of all knowledge. I love wondering myself!

Quote:
"Who would make the thing of the most beauty, of the greatest significance--and then would immediately take them apart?"

We do this with any labyrinth we walk - build the living walls, then tear them apart again immediately.
God did so with man, according to the Christian creation myth - create Adam and Eve, then let them face their mortality.
Every child building a tower and making it collapse does so.
...

I also wanted it to say indikon instead of indicon- indication instead of index.

I'm just now wondering about the thing of great beauty and significance that you create and immediately take apart- -wondering about a sand mandala ritual. . .http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_mandala

It seems to me that this is talking about the artwork that Eli described in his last podcast: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=535674#535674

Quote:
About the sculpture itself, this much is known: It was composed of five interlocking rings, cast in metal. Supposedly they were not welded together, but rather, they could be detached one from another and put back together easily. It is also understood that they were engraved with some kind of message, though no one is clear on what that message might have been.

So the sculpture was created, then the 5 rings were immediately taken apart and hidden. In order to find the lost ring, they have to be reassembled.

The question is, then, are they all still in Antwerp?

I though it was clearer than crystal clear that this refers to Hendrik van Waalen's rings. Wink But the text doesn't ask for the "what" or "where", it asks for the "who". And that questions is more difficult to answer ...

(Our mysterious Axel Frend?)

Well that depends on one's interpretation of the translation from the Esperanto. It seems ambiguous whether there is an explicit question about "who."
