Wow, Canzonett--your directions are great! I was thinking of doing that, but I will probably just use a print out of the labyrinth and navigate using that.

Good luck!

When are you doing it?

Monday afternoon, starting probably at 2 or 3 PM. The weather forecast is not that good, but I'm prepared ... Wink

Another mail from Eli concerning the calculation of the omph strength:

Quote:
Hello Canzonett,

I am thrilled to received news of your progress toward a Munich omph knot.

A few thoughts:

1) I use 184.9:1 as my meter to stadia measurement.
2) If you create an x-y axis centered around the center of the
labyrinth, with the y axis extending directly toward the exit, you
could choose the diameter at either the x-axis or the y-axis. That is
my best advice.

Sincerely yours,

Eli Hunt

I have revised my calculations now, which resulted in an omph strenght of 36.998 (using the vertical axis that follows the labyrinth's exit path).

COUNTDOWN!
We'll meet on Monday at 2 o'clock PM, outside Café Münchner Freihet.

Short report from team Munich: The battle was won (hopefully, let's wait for the trackstick data file!).
Start: ca. 2.30 PM
Finish: ca. 8 PM
Time spent in traffic jams during the two car circuits: too long.
Number of times it started raining, stopped and started again: about 20?
Number of graveyards passed or crossed during the labyrinth run: at least 3.
Number of ice-cream scoops devoured by the satisfied, sweaty and tired team: 9 (thanks for inviting us, Falco!).
Speed comparison: WAY faster to go by bike.
Mental note: A street that can be found both on Google map and on a recent street map of Munich is not necessarily a street that can be passed by a car.
Rivers and streams crossed: at least 5 (Isar, Glockenbach, Auer Mühlbach, Eisbach, Oberstjägermeisterbach).
Number of pseudo-Greek temples passed: 5 (Propyläen, Glyptothek and Antikensammlung on Königsplatz, Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, Bayerisches Nationaltheater).
Number of bad multiverse jokes exchanged: around 3.
Number of construction sites passed: More than you can imagine.
Number of maps crumbled to pieces by Canzonett: 1.

Pictures will follow tomorrow evening. Too tired now.

Sounds like you had quite an adventure!

The part I put in bold is something we, too, discovered on our journey. I called them "unscheduled walks."

Congratulations!

So here's a quick overview over the Munich omphalabyrinth. As you can see, our design worked nicely. The trackstick DOES do strange things, however. To give you an example, I add a blowup of the inner city tracks, the green lines marking the way we really took ...

I've started uploading my labyrinth photos on Flickr. Take a look if you want to know how it went for us!

I think some of it has to do with the signal the trackstick is (or is not, as the case may be) receiving.

But, even when it gets a signal, it will do strange things anyway. When I tested it out on a three mile walk, I got a green flashing signal the entire time, yet it still ended up being slightly off from my actual route.

Yes, AUZ had already warned us that such strange "jumps" might occur and that it might appear as if we had driven/cycled/walked right through buildings etc. We tried to stay in the middle of the street all the time, but sometimes this simply wouldn't work, e.g. because of the masses of soccer fans blocking the roads that evening.

I've managed to upload one of the videos now (the best one, acutally):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IT0j26MJEPo

What you can't see there: Not only am I trying to film the trackstick and give a short comment, I'm also balancing my rucksack, two maps and the detailed list of directions. And AUZ is desperately trying to get my attention and receive instructions whether to turn left or right ...

As more and more people post videos and so on, I am realizing that I have a tendency for some reason to assume that all posters here are male until I receive evidence to the contrary! Sorry!
