Sorry I haven't posted for awhile... I have been trying to keep up though
I live in Oregon! I'll see if I can talk my roommate into driving me up to Portland (maybe even join us?). It'd be fun

Thanks Soda and others who came on Saturday. I posted photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ame/tags/lostring/ and a short video at http://vimeo.com/1102352
We decided to meet again on Sunday, June 8th, possibly at a different park (someplace we can try chalk on a hard surface?). I'll be posting a new event invite on Upcoming in the next day or two.

Hi! I looked at the video and don't think I didn't notice that the videographer's burp not far from the end of it.
I hope you can change next week's to June 7th at 2 pm and join the five cities that are doing a synchronized labyrinth. Is that possible?
Oh, also, I recommend a chalk one over a grass one, if only because it is SO much easier to construct and see.

Yeah, that was too funny to edit out.

We discussed meeting on the 7th, but it's the day of the big Rose Festival parade, and getting around town is a mess for several hours in the middle of the day as a result. Plus three of us have another conflict, so we'd lose a big chunk of the group. Otherwise I think doing the labyrinth synchronization would be neat. Maybe there will be another date we can join in?

Poop.
Yes, I hope there will be. It is tough enough to get enough people in one city as it is, so synchronizing with other cities is a bigger challenge.
If we all keep an eye on the Yahoo Upcoming Events page, though, perhaps we'll find a day we can. I hope so!

Yeah, that silly parade will paralyze the ways in and out of city as those jealous suburbanites flock to watch. Anyway .
spinnerin, might you change the topic of this thread to the date June 8 for our next training session?

Thread subject updated.
I'm looking around on the parks sites for something near downtown with a paved surface. Maybe Lownsdale Square http://www.portlandonline.com/parks/finder/index.cfm?action=ViewPark&PropertyID=243&subareas=6 ? It looks like there's some flat space near the monument in the center.
Lovejoy Fountain Park might work too: http://www.portlandonline.com/parks/finder/index.cfm?action=ViewPark&PropertyID=242&subareas=6

I looked at Lowsndale Square last night on my way out Division. It's all at a slight grade, enough I think, to add a balance problem to a little stumble when you're blindfolded.
I'm still hoping we can find a hardtop surface that we can draw on.
Competing Rose Festival events June 8 should be limited to the waterfront.
Maybe we can met in SE? a schoolground perhaps that one around SE 13 & Belmont (I should get out a map).

Location for June 8 I asked around a bit, and was reminded that there's a perfect spot just off the Esplanade. If there's too much bike traffic, we can move into the end of the parking lot or even the dead-end street.

We'll meet at 2pm again. RSVP on Upcoming if you can be there: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/760197/

ETA: I forgot to say, our best times were around 31-33 seconds. Much better than the week before. I'm hoping that we'll start to get a large enough pool of regular participants to drop another ten seconds next week.

We had low turnout last weekend, but we're trying again on Sunday. Please RSVP if you can come. If we get enough people, we could even run through a 7 circuit labyrinth too.
