As a proof of concept, here is the exact same voice message but with "omphalos number 2" instead of "omphalos number 8"

Actually, if you start from Omphalos number 5 (Boise), you'd go to:
04°12′17″N, 066°57′02″W - Santa Inez, Venezuela
09°22′05″S, 048°52′41″W - Miranorte, Brazil

Well, 5 was of course the trickiest number to choose Smile (as it's always followed by other stuff) but i managed to do something anyway by playing with effects :

The start of the whole mp3 ? didn't change anything there. (and there is no quality/conversion loss between this one and James one)

EDIT : I can clean the noises in the whole mp3 if needed but i think we should leave it as close as possible to the original

Should we wait for dutch speaker help or should we mail back the edited mp3 to James already ? Because he really sounded like he was in a hurry.

Even if we don't understand everything yet, we should put the falsified message back now before Theo found that something is missing.

EDIT : Oh, made a mistake. According to James we must leave the decoy message on the machine not just email him back the mp3. So the voice recorder is a New York phone number right ? Who's there ?

It's Da Lat to Brisbane, to the Wellington area.
(11.94448,108.44436 to 27°27′16″S, 153°32′14″E to 41°01′38″S, 175°25′27″E)

Definitely NZ. Definitely North Island. The point corresponding to Brisbane is about 50 km east of town. And the one in NZ is about 50 km east of Wellington.

Does the labyrinth description mean anything Mr. Judkins?

how did you exactly get this, we know from the theo agent list that they have somone in brisbane

The 3-Circuit Left Facing Labyrinth could be talking about our Omphalabyrinth - one width measurement at least would put it at around 5.51 stadia... There is also the Museum of NZ on the outer ring of the labyrinth, and a very clear "cross of the labyrinth" too... (en het kruis van het labyrint)

I guess once we have the rest of the translation directions to the final location will become clear...

Needless to say, this is all very awesome and unexpected. I'll be interested to find out how many days from Tuesday we'll have to make the pickup...

Notabene: It's my lunchbreak now, so I'll try and get a little further with the transcription ...

HA! "Tattoo museum". "Entry to the labyrinth". I'm getting closer ...

This does sound like Wellington. The Tattoo Museum even has a (fragmentary) website.

Hey all, sorry for not finding this earlier, and thanks pita for warning me Smile

Unfortunately, I am not well versed in FTLR-speak, so I'm not sure what all the lingo means, but I bet you guys do. The italics show the bits of text I'm not too sure about.

Quote:

And the translation:

Quote:
This is Theo agent Dewaldewaard with a report about the transport of La Sesa Ringo, ring number one. The former location of number One was 35,402 stadia in the direction of Hestia 12 from Omphalos number 8. From there, I have shifted the ring 13,550 stadia in the direction of Hestia 7.8. From next Tuesday the ring will be hidden in clear daylight in a galery in the center of a three circuit left-running labyrinth with a width of 5.51 stadia, where the entrance of the labyrinth falls together with the Tattoo Museum and the cross (??) of the labyrinth is located under a corner* of Zeus 12. In order to get hold of the ring, you have to give the ringkeeper a password.

I hope this makes sense.

*) hoek can either mean "angle" ("an angle of ... degrees") or "corner", I can't really deduce from the context which one it is here.

Angle seems more probable. Could the speaker be saying a number anywhere before the word Zeus? (apart from the three and the 5.51)

Three cheers for Giskard Very Happy !

Ok, so these are transport instructions for "La Sesa Ringo, ring number one"...so presumably there will be deaddrops for all 5 rings. Once we have the 5 rings, we'll use them to make the 6th ring...that may mean we'll have to agree on someone to be sent the 5 rings, so they can join them together or something. (That's getting ahead of ourselves, though...perhaps we should wait for more info before we get into a big discussion of that.)

My concern, though, is that if there are 5 rings to get, we want to make sure no one catches on that we are creating decoy messages. If we leave a message directing someone to such-and-such a location, I suggest we actually leave a fake ring at that location. That way, the person doing the pickup will think they have accomplished their mission (here's hoping the person doing the pickup has not guarded the ring before and doesn't know what it looks like) and we will be able to continue with ours. Perhaps we could even coordinate having someone at the location posing as the ringkeeper, but that could potentially be a headache (since no time is given for the pickup...my feeling is that the ringkeeper at the real location this time around could be someone who works at the designated location, so they'll be there all day anyway and will just happen to be waiting for someone to give the password as they carry out their other duties).

P.S.: By the way, remember James told us to e-mail Eli once we have everything figured out. I suggest we get the go-ahead from him before we actually leave our message.

We just can't do that. If we go the decoy route, Theo will know it sooner or later : just look at this message, how many chance have we to find another tatoo museum in another omph knot ?

I think the decoy we're going to do now will only give us a small time advantage to recover that particular ring. For the next ones we should better just leave blank message instead.

EDIT : Another, dangerous, strategy, would be to fake entirely the futur messages by voice acting. But it will only work if Theo doesn't know too well its agents (and if we find native speaker to do the acting)

I've made a map showing the starting point of the 3-circuit labyrinth, a couple of guides showing approximately 5.51 stadia, and a line 5.51 stadia at an angle of Zeus 12 from the start point.

The interesting thing about that last line is that, based on the design of a standard 3-circuit labyrinth, the end point should be somewhere on that line...slightly under halfway along it. This is assuming we don't have to draw an actual labyrinth on the city streets. Here's a link.

http://tinyurl.com/6ln5ra

I'm going to make it publicly editable.
