[Email] Aug 13 Email from Dana

i sent dana a letter 2-3 days ago and got a response...here is what i got

Hi Joseph,
Beijing was amazing, but exhausting. Hiking and camping along the
Great Wall was unreal. Thanks for asking. Smile
Escaped... I hope so. Fingers crossed. Reassuring to hear you say that.
By the way, I emailed the Sleeping Princess to let her know that I'm
back on the case (sort of, in a long-distance kinda way.) Here's what
I sent her. I hope it helps.
-d.

Dear Sleeping Princess,

My friends tell me that you would like me to come back.
I'm here.
By here, I mean online. On a computer, on email, like you.
But I'm not in San Francisco. I'm not "home."
You say you can protect me. But I don't understand how.
So I am going to stay here, which is far away.

If the secret you found can help me and my other friends, please show us.

Love,

Ohhhh. Dana e-mailed me. Now I have all these warm fuzzies!

Hello all,

Sorry if the forum is the wrong place to put this. I know the wiki is there to collect all these e-mails in one place, but, well, I'm kinda worried about screwing up. So, I figure, if I screw up here, the people'll trout me down.

Anyway...

The original e-mail I sent her...in my desultory and ever confusing style.

Dana,

One of those numerous supporters, trying to unravel
the ilovebees problem. Many of us, myself included,
were worried when you fled. What ever has taken over
your website appears to be hostile. Running away
might've just made its furvor for "getting you" all
the worse.

All this messiness aside, how is China? Lately China's
been trying to crack down on Western influences
through the Internet with massive national firewalls.
The scope such a project would require is momunmental,
and that a nation would feel threatened enough by us
people to seal itself off is a little frightening.
Have you had any trouble accessing Hotmail from
Beijing?

I am curious as to the response you've been getting
from the Chinese government. I assume it has been
hospitable? Tensions between our government and
there's hasn't been at a high point since the spy
plane incident. I remember reading about the little
conflicts that nationally funded "hackers" had over
the Internet. Just little cybercrimes if I remember,
denial of service and cyber vandalism. A strange
parallel to your current experience, I might imagine.

And, perhaps even more importantly, what response have
you been getting from the Chinese people. As I
understand, things have improved since the time of
Tiananmen Square. But, alas, most find politics to be
boring. I'm wondering, how does being so far from home
feel?

Hi Luke,
China is amazing... and amazingly difficult.
All kinds of craziness going on over here... including the whole space
launch thing, which seems to be fully occupying everyone's attention
these days.
I wish I had more time to tell you all about it... am taking lots of
digital photos and hope to eventually share them with you guys.
Trying to pick up some postcards, too.
In the meantime... I keep trying to get more of a handle on what's
going on at Aunt M's site... so I finally emailed the Sleeping
Princess (full text below). I hope it helps us understand more...
keep in touch, thank you much for writing and asking about the trip. Smile

As Gmail obfuscates the IP, can't tell if it's really coming from China, but it's the wee hours of the morning in the US, so middle of the day in China. Nice touch! Smile

Also, might want to xxx out your email addy, there, chaotic_mind. Smile

By now I'm sure you've seen the coordinates that Mellisa has plastered
over your Aunt's site. I'm also sure you've heard the sound file of a
woman's voice repeating "I love bees" in different tones. Now that
we've put together the new text, we keep seeing references to a voice.
I believe that Mellisa will try to impersonate YOUR voice over
telephones. She's looking for a way out, and she's still pissed that
you tried to delete her. Warn your aunt that someone may be pretending
to be you, work out a secret code or something with her. Be carefull!

Hard to SPEC, seems more like a heads up to get ready to spec.

There's no doubt in my head that SP's secret, all hidden away, is a lynchpin to this whole thing.

Couple things jumped out immediately --
1) Same message to the SP as she quoted in emails to others.

2) "it really helps to have caring friends like you keep pinging" -- Another instance of Dana's language being very computer-like. (For the non-geeks in the crowd 'ping' is a command that will send a data packet to a remote host to check to see if its alive/online/up. If it is, it will return a 'pong' reply. You can see this a lot if you use mIRC, in the server window.)

Is this another sign that she's not entirely as she appears? I don't know. Yes, she's used phrases like 'I need to process this information', but heck. I think I've used language like that before at times. Considering that Dana-character has been set up to be a big geek, her word choice isn't necessarily all that odd.

So what does it mean if you've written Dana (before today) and Ladybee777, and didn't get this email (but you did get the original one from the SP back on 8/3?) I don't get it...

EDIT- Not that I REALLY think it's a possibility, but just in case, I'm throwing it out there: I now realize that I never "clicked" the email link on Dana's Profile to send her emails... ever... that I just saw the danatwingSPLATgmail.com and typed it in whenever I sent her something... Would/Could the "clickers" be traceable so that's who she wrote to??? (BTW I know before I submit this, that it's gonna be shot down, but what good is a forum, unless I can spec about why interaction ISN'T happening?) Confused

I didn't get the email from the SP, but all I did was type in Dana's email. I dunno how the emails were chosen to respond to, but here's my two:

Quote:
Hi Paul,
I'm am safe... at least, I think so. Thanks for checking in on me.
Really... makes me feel better to know there's someone looking after

Might be nothing, but she seems to be using "I wanted to let you know that I finally emailed the sleeping priness." in alot of the emails. Maybe the phrase, or the alternate ones in the other setances, has some sort of clue?

maybe, but i'm thinking that she had to write 2 jillion emails every 2 jillion seconds so she didnt have time to be creative

[meta]
or the PM's had to right 2 jillion emails, so they got lazy
[/meta]

SB: hey Gron Sad, if you got like, 2 jillion emails every 2 jillion seconds, how many emails would that be, like, a jillion?

SS: jillion isn't a number spaz! and stop calling me Gron Sad!

SB: whatever nerd! you just go back to reading... uh, "nerdular nerdics"

(ok, i didn't quite have the quote right, but y'all should be able to recognize it)

> So I guess I'm just asking is there some way you can think of that would help you out with organizing our, uh, help? Any suggestions would be great. Hate to phrase it this way, but you're our Queen, and we're your bees, your busy hive. Help us help you, your Majesty. I feel right now that we're kind of a disorganized hive, of sorts.
> I'm guessing you're up to date with all that's going on with the site and all, sure there's plenty of people mailing you about the text and hidden messages, Phase 3 and all that. All the supposed entities (personalities?) involved, so I won't get into that right now. But um, assuming your site is now infected by some AI, should we talk to it? We have contact with something through your aunt's email account, but I'm more concerned with the entity on the site itself, the one we've come to call Melissa. Or the Queen, Operator, whatever. She doesn't like you much, as you know, but if we could somehow let her know that you're not a threat, that WE'RE not a threat, maybe we can help her? She's labelled you as a threat because you were purging the site earlier, but if we could explain to her somehow that it was a mistake, maybe...? "She" sounds just as alone and scared as I'm sure you've felt sometimes.
> Difference is, you've got us. But maybe Melissa needs some help too. Despite all the "beings" on the site, Melissa seems kinda alone. Maybe you can contact her somehow that we can't. I know it sounds scary, but we don't have any way to reach her. Just ladybee777. Oh, lol and this just all gets weirder, the "Sleeping Princess" entity that seems to use your aunt's email now wants to talk to you too. She says that you're her friend, in the same boat and all that. Strangely, something in the back of my head doesn't trust her as much. Something's going on, and we don't know what.
> But like I said, you're our queen, we're your hive. Help us help you, please. I know you're on vacation, and gosh your blog is more of a "clog" now, but please we need your help. If you can contact us somehow, mail me (any of us) back, and we'll do what we can. Just remember, you're not alone, we're with you every step of the way. Oh, and enjoy your vacation Smile
> Buzzed,
> Prince of the Sword"

In case you didn't read my "novel" as it's being called on the generals *grins* I was talking to her about hive concepts for some reason. The odd things in my case were as follows:

-I mailed her LAST NIGHT at like, 2:00 AM Eastern. I know, no biggie in China, but it means she went through it all recently.

-she called me J., not Prince of the Sword. (email's jmcdonald) *Sniff*, wounded pride.

-I got four copies of it in my inbox. I haven't opened the other three, I assume they're duplicates but what if something's different? I find it odd that the PMs would do something so, well, computer illiterate like I would. Give me a book and I'm fine. But then again, Dana's supposed to be just like us, why wouldn't she double post? Or is that just a mail glitch?

-I did NOT recieve the ladybee777 mail today, though I did get the previous one. Haven't mailed ladybee777 since I got the previous (Aug 3rd, I think?) mail, might have something to do with it.

Time to go, Sherpa, again I would appreciate your wiki wisdom if you could add my stuff to the list. Sorry about being ill-wiki-literate. Everyone, let's keep thinking about the hive stuff, maybe even pick back up with the name thoughts we were throwing around way back when. I liked "the Beekeepers." Sounds kinda badass to me, really. Scared of beekeepers, sort of. Farewell all.

Oh yeah, Coffee Jedi, it was the limiting and collecting emails thing that I was meaning by "hive" or whatnot. It would maybe save Dana the character time reading mails, and show her our respect. Jillion mails indeed! I bet she is getting a lot. Any more thoughts on how we could pool our thoughts?
