Someone give me a pep talk. ARG

You're really doing a great job so far, especially given how cryptic some of the information is that we've been getting. And since this isn't going at breakneck speed I've even found myself forgetting information and having to go back and reread old forum and blog posts.

As for what more info you may need right now, I think you have most of it if since you went looking for all of the names. Obviously they like the physical puzzles (find a book, use blacklight) and there haven't been too many deciphering puzzles yet. We know that the last cipher sent anonymously was a transposition cipher and that Violette used these, so it's a good bet that any other cipher might be transposition as well.

Should you decide to go back again, we can try to coordinate so that you have help online when you get there. I wish we had an idea of how much more there is before you get to the final spot, but then I guess that would take all of the 'fun' out of it. Smile

Woohoo! I got a message from a shadowy character offering help. Bless you, PMs. Very Happy

Quote:
You don't know me, but you can help redress an injustice heaped on a friend
and a colleague.

Call the Surer number, and listen carefully, take notes if possible.

Take your cell phone with you.

These guys will never play fair, so if you go through with this - "get in, get
whatever's there, and get out!"

My warmest regards and admiration to Dan Corrigan, I hope what you find helps
his quest.

Good luck.

JF

That's Jock Forsythe, right?

Oddly enough I couldn't dial the number from my home phone, but could with my cell. There's a recording there with a connection code for legacy clients, which I'm hoping is the combination to get into the storage space. I've got a better feeling about going back than I did a little while ago. Smile

ETA: I accidentally called the main Surer Risk number first and a live person answered the phone with "Hello?" Shocked

ETA^2: I bet a lot of this angst could have prevented if I had just dialed the bloody number when I found it. Dunce

Ah, hindsight... Wink

Very nice that the cry for help was heard. Hopefully this makes the decision to go back easier.

On another note, it looks like Sleep of Reason on the IG forum is off to Surer Risk next week:

BTW, is that anyone here on uF?

Ahh, just got a helpful message from The Fan on the VD forum recommending I bring a flashlight and wear work clothes. Also an offer to help out via Twitter, but I am not sure of his or her nick there - is that Violettesdream?

So many, many thanks to the PMs for the in-character nudges. Nicely done. I hope I didn't come off as too much of a whiner!

I should be in Fredericksburg by noon Saturday, if not earlier, and I will update as much as I can, probably by Twitter since it's quickest (when it's working).

Those interested are welcome to follow along.

I'm liking the PMs more all the time. Smile
I for one will have phone updates on for you on Twitter should I happen to be out when you're in the thick of it.
Oh, and yes, the Fan's Twitter is

Excellent work! I can't think of who P.E. could be right

By the way, Dan Corrigan said that "P.E." probably meant "Peter Ebersbach," which was midway through the transformation.

I'm kind of copying and pasting this from the Violette's Dream forum since it's long, but there's a little more at the end I want to say -

I called the storage place and asked if there was an office or something there; there's not. I panicked a little bit - the notations meant nothing to me and I wasn't sure what to do if I encountered a lock. Happily, I got a quick email from Jock Forsythe asking if I'd called that phone number yet. (duh! on me) I called it and there was a message saying that the number was out of service as of July, 2008, but legacy clients could call extension 2493 for service. Hmm, that sounds like a combo lock, right? DC helped further by saying that between the circled page number 49 and the A=?, I might be looking for unit A-49. And The Fan said that usually the combinations are four numbers long.

Armed with all the information that I thought I needed, we headed back to Fredericksburg this morning to pick up the rest of the cache. On the way, we passed an amusing little restaurant.

When we got to the storage place, we found unit A49 and our hopes soared.

And glory - there was a combination lock on there. Check out what it was set to - "1944"!

We opened the lock using the "2493" code and found an ammo can.

Inside the can we found an envelope filled with money and a gold bar.

We also found instructions for the new Peter Hayder:

Interesting. Since this cache was not picked up by 1998, it seems like they reassigned the Peter Hayder identity to the man currently working at Surer Risk.

We tried heading over to the Dietzel Motel just in case they still had that 10 year old reservation -

- but they had no reservation for Peter Hayder, and no packages for him. I think this was the end of the trail.

Additionally, there was a phone number for an operative who shall remain unnamed. I called him and he asked if we could meet in Austin on Monday so that he could give me some gold. Real gold. [Surprised]

I'll be sure to report back once that happens. In the meantime, I hope this information helps those trying to uncover what's been going on here.

---

About the gold: I spoke with one of the game publishers, whose name and number were on a card in the cache. He told me that they were very excited at the retrieval of this, the first cache. I believe that there are many like it in different places. I'm going to meet him on Monday and he said he has some gold for me. This ties into what the creative developer said a while back about finding real gold via the game.

Definitely not your ordinary game swag! Shocked Very Happy

Edit: None of the pics are showing up for some reason, but you can see them at my gallery here - http://gallery.addlepated.net/main.php?g2_itemId=8559

*cough* Miami, Miami, Miami... *cough*

If they do it down here, maybe I'll feel a little redeemed after the Holomove fiasco. And if there's actual gold involved, it'll be *much* easier to explain to the wife. Smile

Monetary rewards certainly piqued my husband's interest. Laughing

Oh yes, much easier to explain. Plus, it would definitely help to get the wife into wtf an ARG is.

And, yes, the Holomove fiasco was indeed extremely disappointing, and someone should redeem it to us floridians Razz

But yeah, after that, I think im very interested in reading all the stuff on this ARG and following
