Just to make sure that everyone's noticed this, the "new" Popular Technologies issue came out November 1950 and Hale doesn't go to fight in Britain until July 1951. So it seems that the ARG at least will be taking place BEFORE the events in Resistance: Fall of Man.

It also seems to fit: in May 1950 "Rumours of Chimera in Europe cause panic across America, so the office of Perception Protection and Guidance begins producing programmes for television and radio that speak of an influenza epidemic in Europe. This explanation quickly raises public support for the increased border protection. Slowly, all independent broadcasting is replaced with government propaganda."

And, November 1950 is exactly the time period in which the Chimera have completely overtaken Europe, finishing off Britain. So it would make a lot of sense for the US to start drumming up it's recruiting process at this point, knowing very well that they are the world's next superpower and a likely target. Not to mention that they launch their own attack/investigation in the form of a naval fleet that reaches Britain in June 1951, which they would want a good number of soldiers for.

So some [SPEC]:
Knowing that the US is working round-the-clock to find a cure for the Chimera virus, Project Abraham could be the study's codename (especially since to cure something quickly in humans, they are almost certainly doing human experimentation with the Chimera virus). This also seems to be verified by some of the footage in R2's second trailer, that seems to show Chimera-centric experimentation. Or instead of just trying to cure the virus (knowing the sneaky types of experimentation that gone on by world governments), perhaps they're trying to produce supersoldiers? Controllable hybrids (like what Hale becomes) that would be able to combat the Chimera much more easily? like I said, just some speculation until we get something more concrete to do.

That may be a key...

-Maybe Hale wasn't going to America, and that's not a crash... He haven't left from Europe yet, and perhaps that's another accident altogether?

Here's something I was trying to investigate the validity of before I logged on:

Quote:
Hale was a capable soldier, but during a live-fire exercise, he led an unconventional gambit against a mock target that led to the deaths of most of his squad and several observers, and he himself was grievously injured. The incident was attributed to faulty munitions. Hale was rehabilitated at the Army's Higgins Trauma Center in Montana. After exhaustive therapy and many operations, Hale returned to active duty. His commanding officers consistently rewarded Hale with higher-risk missions due to his natural skill in battle, but psychologists expressed concern that he had a death wish.

-The abraham link, I now think, is showing us the events that happened just after the accident.

-I now think the faulty in "faulty munitions" now means "experimental".

-That also may have something to do with the skull in Montana in that other poster... Is it Hale's through some type of time displacement? The origin of the "flu-shot" given to Hale (if indeed he got the shot)? Perhaps the American Chimera outbreak starts in Montana somehow.

Was that when they could've given hale a "flu" shot preventing him from becoming comatose?

Were the survivors of that "mock target" also given shots?

-Also, on the Resistance Website

http://www.us.playstation.com/Resistance/

-May 1950 was the time they had a massive border attack (by President Grace I assume) at both the Mexican and Canadian borders.

-May 27 (1950) was the date of an Autopsy report showing a Chimera skull in the Unlocked info, although the report would suggest that the body came from Manchester)

Just playing around in Photoshop with Poster 4 from GamePro and I found some odd things. Looks like writing! The file's a bit big so I have to put it on an external site.
Nothing, just an overlay of the scanner. Carry on.

alrite... i'm back from the dead, i haven't used my unfiction account for like two years, i guess.

i also enlisted, read through the progress you have made. seems interesting.

some observations:

the photo in the locker and the photo on the website - they could be completely different, they needn't be the same. like they do these group photos of new recruits, and then they make photos of the company every now and then.

haven't seen it written down, but i think it's quite obvious to all of you that the guys on the pictures are black-ops, or at least that might be an explanation for the black ties and all.

I was also pondering the name "Abraham" - in the Bible Abraham is the "father of all beleivers" in the New Testament context, and "father of all nations" in the Old Testament context.

Abraham was given a promise by God that he would have as many successors as the stars on the sky. If the codename should be interpreted this way, then, I think it is a reference to the virus.

Also, he was tested by God, and was asked to "sacrifice" his only son, Isaac, to test his faith in the promise given to him earlier. In the end he didn't need to sacrifice Isaac, as just when they got to the altar and Abraham was about to sacrifice Isaac, they found a lamb, which was used as a sacrifice, meaning God didn't want to have Isaac dead, and that Abraham had true faith in the promise of God.
This reference I find more probable, I have to think of "I have 19 hours to live" - Hale could be the Isaac, the person they are willing to "sacrifice" (or send on this mission alone) but beleive that won't die in the end. I think this could be connected to the injection that he might have gotten (do I get it right, that he is the one getting the injection?).

Also, the fact that he flatlines at the end of the video, doesn't mean he dies.

Just some observations. And hi to all "old" members from PXC Smile

It might just be a transparencies from the scanned pages of what's behind or it could be that the printing plates were dirty when they pressed the graphics on to the page.

I'm only saying this because the markings are too hard to see and they don't make much sense.

It is writing... from the next page of the magazine that bled through from the scan. Everything except the two squares you have on the bottom that is.

ETA - It's a Gamefly ad.

One, definitely female here, sorry to prove Snopes wrong...oh wait, no I'm not. Very Happy

Two, I can't see anything in any of the other suggested bits, but in the second "yellow box" (to the right of the top fists) I absolutely see some kind of text, possibly backwards?
Nvm, everyone got ontop of that.

Some more comments - about the video:

3 ways of vision: Red, "Normal", Green

Red, I think is when the thing he is brought into the hospital affects him, normal are his stable moments and green is when he gets the injection and it all goes dizzy.

Now, a transcript, with colors and scenery and all those:

Cassie: You'll be allright.
Doc: Blood pressure 135

Cassie: Can you grab my hand? You're gonna be OK.

Cassie: What's happening to him?

Cassie: You're gonna be fine.

*blackout*

/ In the operation room /

Nurse: We can't get through his skin.

*red*

Doctor: Get out of the way.
Cassie: What are you feeling? He wants help!

Cassie: What's going through your mind? Did you hear me?
Cassie: (something here that I couldn't make out)

Cassie: You can't do this. Stop it.

/ Soldier in back turns his head to the left /

*red*

Doctor: Hey! Move.
Cassie: No you can't do this.

*red*

Cassie: NO!

Doctor: Get her out of here.
Cassie:Please you're killing him. Stop.

Also, note his heavy breathing at times. First just after the blackout, then at "what's going through your mind", at "did you hear me"

Dephibrillator start sound at "you can't do this, stop it", and if it would get discharged at the moment he sees the syringe.

That's true; That could be it.

I didn't elaborate on Abraham Lincoln much. I didn't post them because they didn't seem like it would lead to the next clue so I apologize to everyone for that, so allow me to do so now;

Abraham Lincoln:

-successfully led his country through its greatest crisis, The Civil War, only to be assassinated less than a week after the war's end... as Hale will I suspect be fighting American Chimera, only to "die" after the End of the Campaign

-was an outspoken opponent of the expansion of slavery; in this installment Hale's trying to keep Americans from being dominated by Chimera

-Led the fight in the Bloodiest battle in American History; I suspect Resistance 2 will be no less.

-successfully defused a war scare with the United Kingdom in 1861; Hale Ultimately diffused the Chimera by destroying the tower.

-lost his parents at an early age... so did hale

again, I didn't post them because they didn't seem like it would lead to the next clue, but maybe it will.

I think the next clue is "hidden in plain sight" as that's what 42 Entertainment does and state in their website. It definitely has something to do with the Blackout page. Taking the "black" "out" of the page leads to the tiles and edges of the table. So, there has to be the next clue somewhere around there.

:huggles to you too: I can't speak for Kona, but I certainly can't blame you! You're new; you're not supposed to know everyone yet (and it's not like we have any real indication of gender here). Smile

Re: The Abraham Conversation
Hey, they could be refering to Abraham Van Helsing. After all, there's a whole bunch of monsters to be killed Wink

O/T

Please stand by for the following Public Service Announcement!
(And this is really all just humble opinion so please do feel free to take what I say with a grain of salt or ignore me completly)

I just wanted to give a side note to anyone who's new at this (or even anyone who's new to a 42 Entertainment backed ARG). From what I've seen both in NIN: Year Zero and The Dark Knight: Why So Serious campaigns, 42E isn't generally convoluted about their puzzles. Finding the puzzles that need to be solved is usually very easy. For example in this game, once the GamePro magazine was released, the puzzles were easily identifiable as puzzles (now, solving them is a different matter entirely). In the other campaigns as well, there was always a strong indication of something new.

What I'm trying to say is that as cool as all this discussion is -- the phantom face in the window, images in the table's woodgrain, morse code in belt buckles, phone numbers out of fingers -- I think there's a very low chance of it leading anywhere. I just don't want anyone to get so frustrated thinking that there's something to solve right this instant that they get fed up and leave disappointed.

A news article said that the bulk of the game is going to last 12 weeks, the end of which is likely going to coincide very closely with the release of Resistance 2. So we've got a long while! Especially since the first site just went live. As a reference, in TDK, the first true puzzles happened in mid-May then nothing happened again until the end of July. And even in the middle of the game there were times that nothing would happen for a week.

So I'm fairly sure that when 42 is ready for the game to move forward, it's going to be (somewhat) obvious. Whether it's an email, a phonecall, a package, a change in the sourcecode, a new video, a new strange site that's discovered, etc. We'll know that a new puzzle has emerged that needs to be solved.

Anyway, that was just a really long explaination to say that we may just have to be patient and give the game a little time to unfold. However, there's also a very large chance that I have no frickin clue what I'm talking about and should have about as much attention paid to me as a squawking parrot! So, all that said and done... CARRY ON! Laughing
