Congrats to the winners!
I wish they'd post our rankings for the final puzzle in the quest log!

Definitely congratulations!
I'm curious to see what the Artifact will turn out to be.

I'd like to know the final rankings as well. I know that I was in the top ten.
Wait, what? The official rules say that the finalist must be able to travel July 15, 2008 – July 18, 2008 so why do we have to wait another month to view this final competition?
Congratulations to Travis Hogg, Jim Hutz, and John Wright. If you can make it to the ArgFest-O-Con in Boston, come let us know how the competition went.

How do you know you were in the top 10?

Congrats Magnet0! i was in the top 10 too but didn't know if we could say anything.
Belle-they contacted the top 10 and sent packets out to them. But informed me last thursday that i wasn't in the top 3.

Ohh cool. What may I ask was in the packets? And do you have any idea if they plan on posting the final rankings?

mostly legal forms and there was a gift card to cover expenses (we had to get a physical, etc.)
and i have no idea if they plan on releasing more info about the rankings. I highly doubt it though...

Very interesting! Sounds like the final competition is going to very physically intense. Very interesting.
What time did you submit your answer? I wonder how close I was...

Since we know the top 3, can we determine the remaining 7 of the top 10. It would be nice to know how many are unForumites.
I'll be happy to announce myself as the 1st non-finalist runner up.
chulo333 can be 2nd.
MrToasty alludes to the Artifact (hinting at secret knowledge) could be 3rd?
MrToasty concedes.
What about
sassy
, scubasteve and capt Jenny?

Sadly no secret knowledge, nor top 10. Once the guys at Steeple posted, I figured I had no chance at making top 3, so I took my time and verified the solution. In hindsight I should have just fired it off and might have made top 10.

Nope, not me....I was prolly screwed. We all did the answer at the same time pretty much, but if you were in the chat you know that when I first logged in I never got the final game, I got a screen that said "answer submitted", so I am pretty sure that got counted first--30 seconds into the final round. I had to reboot too get it to work. I have NO IDEA what answer was submitted, as I never even got the cryptex. When I finally submitted a solve it most likely was not recorded...or recorded as a second answer. I am pretty sure I got my "second" answer in before that one guy at Steeple that got a packet....buuuuuuut.....it's actually a relief.
Seriously, I never could have passed a physical. I have systemic Lupus AND fibromyalgia, which affects me kind of the same way MS would. On top of that I was in a really serious car wreck last year and broke my neck at C7 (still not fully healed) and my right leg was fractured in 32 places (ditto, and still in PT). I got a lovely handicapped parking permit as a consolation prize from it all. Heh. Yeah, I am a mess, but it gives me time to solve puzzles....just don't ask me to repel down the side of the Luxor, ya know?
I need to find a nice treasure hunt that doesn't involve disclaimers like "must be able to withstand being suspended in mid-air"..........

Sassy, too bad. But you still could have made the finals.
From the official rules wrote:
Finalist must be in good physical condition and able to partake in rigorous physical activities, or may appoint an authorized Designee to travel to and complete on his or her behalf in the Final Competition.
Besides, the physical challenges probably only use the left leg.

I get busy at work, and everything ends. Honestly I couldn't keep up with this, the puzzles didn't like loading for me. Congrats to the finalists.

You could slide down it. Luxor isn't much more than a 45° angle, right? Problem would be the 100°+ heat, and the dark tint on the windows.

Of the 10, 6 of them post either here or steeplemedia and have identified themselves. Not sure if any of the steeple posters also post here or who the remaining 4 are. But here's the list:
retsbob999 - finalist (steeple poster)
Decipherguy - finalist (occasional steeple poster)
fred (steeple poster)
jhtitan (steeple poster)
chulo333 (me and I'm an unfictionite)
magnet0 (unfiction poster)
and sassy, I didn't post my answer until after fred and jed posted the explanation on steeple...couldn't get it on my own. Sadly Jed for some reason wasn't included in the top 10
