Havent heard much from those I'm in contact with there yet.
Last I heard thought, was "This thing is crazy!"
So who knows.

Man, I really wish I was over in NYC. Don't think I'm going to be able to make it to the E3 or E4 events. Namely due to school and that I'm moving upstate. Curses!

[1:56am] <Azure> Wow...
[1:56am] <Irene> the organizers said they've had games go for 26 hours
[1:57am] <Azure> holy cow
[1:57am] <Irene> many people dropped out, teams are merging
[1:57am] <Irene> the clues were really freakin hard!
[1:57am] <Azure> Huh, so what was it like?
[1:57am] <Irene> and we literally RAN all around the city
[1:57am] * ~Azure has never been to a live event
[1:57am] <Azure> Heh
[1:57am] <Azure> So did you drop out then?
[1:57am] <Irene> it was basically an ARG in real life...not internet based at all...google and gmail helped a little
[1:57am] <Azure> Ah ok
[1:58am] <Irene> yeah, i had to get home. i have somewhere to be tomorrow, i thought it would be done by midight at the latest!
[1:58am] <Azure> Yeah really wow
[1:58am] <Irene> those guys will go all night, the rest of the team
[1:59am] <Irene> when i left they were triangulating a point inside concentric circles
[1:59am] <Azure> Did they say what the prize was?
[1:59am] <Irene> the largest of which was like 2 miles diameter
[1:59am] <Irene> it was a LOT of running
[1:59am] <Azure> lol
[1:59am] <Irene> i have NO idea
[2:00am] <Irene> it better be good!
[2:00am] <Azure> Yeah really
[2:00am] <Irene> plus to get a hint...you had to physically show up with the physical clue at the hint spot...which at one point was a full mile away from where the game was
[2:01am] <Irene> they moved the clue spot at like 11:30 PM
[2:01am] <Azure> wow
[2:01am] <Irene> yeah, nuts...totally nuts...
[2:01am] <Azure> sounds like it
[2:02am] <Irene> i'm so beat
[2:03am] <Azure> I bet
[2:03am] <Irene> i'm playing another live event tomorrow but this is an easy one
[2:03am] <Azure> Heh
[2:03am] <Azure> Good Razz
[2:03am] <Irene> its like half mystery half theatre and they don't let you screw up
[2:03am] <Irene> oh...but our team at one point was in 2nd place out of 17
[2:03am] <Azure> Did the journal page from the site help at all?
[2:03am] <Irene> which was cool
[2:03am] <Azure> Yeah very
[2:03am] <Irene> they gave us a photocopy of it in the first clue package
[2:04am] <Azure> lol
[2:04am] <Irene> or part of it anyway
[2:04am] <Irene> there was writing in the margins on ours that translated to a phone number
[2:05am] <Azure> huh
[2:08am] <Irene> aight
[2:08am] <Irene> i'm off to bed
[2:08am] <Irene> ttyl

According to the forums on the prototype site, one team (possible two) did finish around 5 AM. There's a lot of griping about how the game was designed. Running around parts of the city at 2 AM on your hands and knees looking for a note under a crate is not that smart! Most of the parts of the city the game was in was well traveled, but not at 2 AM. A lot of unhappy agents out there...some thought the puzzles were really hard...which they were.

I'm glad I went (till 1:30 am anyway). It was like ARG boot camp. WOW.

Yeah, we were doing really well at one point. Our team was in 2nd place! The early clues weren't that bad, but if you got stuck on something...you had to just gut it out because the PMs would give hints, but they weren't very telling. You could only get a hint every 15 minutes, but you had to come to the hint spot to get it!

And one of the clues, it was an object. I swear to god we STARED at it for 45 minutes...then we ran around looking for things it could be connected to. Then all of a sudden, I was like OHHHHHH! I know what that says. It wasn't like it was a ridiculously hard substitution cyper ....it was just all in the way you looked at the objects.

(I don't want to give away puzzles in case they resuse them in other cities...but I'm sure some participant will put up a walkthrough soon.)
At one point we were in a dead sprint down Broadway. All in all, it was quite an amazing experience. But if you can get to this thing...when they run it again...beg, borrow and deal to get yourself to this game. It was WILD!

Looks like there's no involvement with us who aren't playing. Sad

You know, this sounds a hell of a lot like The Miami Herald's Tropic Hunt, or most recently the Washington Post Hunt.

You know what's even better than second place?
First place.
I'm only 17 and the rest of my team was 15 and 14, but we teamed up with another team of 23-ish year olds, and we were in FIRST PLACE for the majority of the night. We were the first to most of the physical people because we asked them, and the two women giving hints told us they were really proud because "we can't give it away but...let's just say you're in the Top 3" and we had the youngest people in it.
Also we were the last team to request a hint at all, which made us feel even BETTER about ourselves! Very Happy
Unfortunately it got to be about 2:30 and we really needed to get the train before it didn't have any running until about 5 so we had to leave.
I would have stayed if there were more trains running but we had to go.
I believe the other half of my team that was able to stay came in second place or something, being that there was only like 2 or 3 teams left at the end.

Ha ha! Then you must have been the one team that got to Forbidden Planet before us. That was early in the game, but that's when we were in second. We got bogged down on the bracelet for a bit. But once we got down to the Park everything got rolling again nicely.

But, weren't you guys the team that ended up in some freak's van? I'm glad you got home safe and everything was ok. Obviously you guys are very young and not from the city (Island, Westchester, Jersey) and I'm glad nothing went disastrously wrong. Really, there's a lot of dudes who would lick their lips at the idea of 14 year old boys running around the city at night "looking for clues."

Most of my team were professionals in their 30s, many married...wandering around the lower east side confused and exhausted is a "been there, done that" type of situation. LOL! No puzzle solving is worth going through the Riis houses at 3 AM.

I'll go to this thing again if they start it at noon.

That's exactly what I said: START IT AT NOON NEXT TIME.
Hahah and yeah we got in the van, it was the best part! We became double agents >Very Happy
Our team actually finished in second although my half had to leave >:/
We were teamed up with the Vampire Ninjas or something and they got to the finale second, so that's cool I guess.
If I didn't have to get that 2:45 train then I would have loved to have stayed and continued.
I didn't get tired at all but everyone else I brought could barely move by 2:30 so I was forced to call it quits -_-

Oh well!

I did my own write-up about the whole thing on my blog if anyone would like to read it.
