Hagelin's C-3X 5-letter key

This *could* be read as "Hagelin's C-3_, a five letter key" in which case you would insert a 5 in the blank and have the proper decoding device--the one you found.

I think you might have something there.....good job!

gets better. you need a 5 letter key to solve it. BUT what are we deciphering?

EDIT2: The page links in the source code include numbers that look like years preceded by the numbers 452 995. 1565 is when Vigenere published his encryption method. 1952, 1935, 1947, 1958 may be related to Hagelin machine releases maybe? It would be the golden years of WWII and the Cold War...

452 is not a valid area code it seems...so they aren't hidden phone numbers I don't think

These are the "page names" of the other pages on the site....ABOUT US, etc. Why did they use numbers? Makes me think these ten digit numbers might need "decoding"....two sets of five?

Ooooooh looky here:

1935 ("date" on LEARN MORE page)--On request of the French Cipher Bureau Hagelin developed the portable C35. This was the first real pin-and-lug type ciphermachine. Five pinwheels, each with another number of pins, controlled sliding bars on a revolving drum. This drum is used as gearwheel with a variable number of teeth, driving a reciprocal alphabet. The machine output was printed on a paper ribbon.

1947 ("date" on ABOUT US page)--In 1941, after the commercial Enigma was broken, Swiss mathematicians started working on a new and more secure design. In 1944 the first prototypes were ready and in 1947 the NEMA or Neue Machine (new machine) came into service. Although basically very similar to the Enigma, the NEMA had ten rotors, of which four were wired to scramble the signals and one was used as reflector. The other five rotors were used to control the stepping of these rotors.

1952 ("date" on MESSAGES FROM OUR CEO page)--After the low level encryption C-38 and M-209 Hagelin decided to develop a system that would be usable for high level military and diplomatic encryption. In 1952 the Hagelin C-52 came on the market. Several improvements were introduced in the 52 model. The rotation of the pin-wheels became irregular and depended on the pin positions of the previous wheels and for the 6 wheel model there was now the choice between 12 pin-wheels. Also the number of slide-bars was increased to 32. A slightly different machine was the CX-52. A separate keyboard attachment was available under the name B-52. The combination of machine and keyboard was designated BC-52. Some versions had a punched tape reader or had only number keys. This very popular machine was sold all over the world and was widely used until the 1990's

Nothing for 1958 ("date" on CONTACT US page), although in 1957 there was a pocket version of Hagelin's C type machine.

iv tried the numbers allready either way we need key word made of 5 letters. i wasnt going to post it but heres where you can use the cipher.

http://members.aon.at/cipherclerk/CipherClerk.html

set it to devices and machines and then hagelins c35. i sent in a story about ID theft to the site hoping to get something useful back. so we need the cipher text and the 5 letter key (im thinkin its something like tyler, theft or along that line.)

Just to repeat this because I don't want us getting derailed, and some people seem to have missed my earlier post:

The numbers in the URL are irrelevant

It's because of the moonfruit software they used, for another example see these sites:

apologies for the newbie-like double posting, i've been reading the threads on the secureidguard.com site and didn't see this mentioned yet.

http://secureidguard.com/login

you can make new accounts and so on with it.

edit: The system says it sends a confirmation email for you to validate, but I've yet to get anything.

While I completely agree with you Wolfie, it *is* possible to use numbers under your control with Moonfruit using "save as", is it not? While we may have 5 key letter, we still have to have numbers for the offset. I was playing around with changing last four digits as possibles, and also the unchanging first set of six. Even if you can't control the numbers Moonfruit puts out, it is entirely possible they could use those numbers produced--later, as the offset code. I don't think we should toss them out just yet.

Hi guys, I got the barcode mail as well so here I am. I see a lot has happened already; not sure what to do at this point. I think I'll just sent the characters some personal messages, though what to say? And how to earn those points? I see some of you already have over a 1,000 ... Seems impossible to do that as well.

Heh, you're thinking like a seasoned ARGer Sassy. These people are very new to ARGs. Personally I don't think we even have a code yet, and until they give me something concrete to work on, i'm not going to mess around looking under every nook and cranny til i get blue in the face and start seeing things that aren't there. But that's just me Razz

Hey, just got caught up with all 19 pages.

I shot out an e-mail to Secure ID, because, I have a podcast and "run a small production company" SO, I'm going to see about signing up. I looked up the address given on the new secure ID website, and it certainly doesn't look like the kind of area this kind of business would be located. I'm working on grabbing screen caps from a sat mat from google of the area, and of a local street view as well.

I've already friend requested ethan on FB, tyler on myspace, and tyler on youtube. and the myspace has already been accepted.

One thing I wonder....if players had never suggested a tyler/ethan hookup....would it have happened? Would it have sent this ARG on a radically different path? I think we kinda played exactly into their plans of wanting to see tyler and ethan together....but should we have?

Okay, messaged them both. I've concentrated on the next step in their "relationship", Ethan's company party.

I've been wondering about Nicole; she's added to the list of characters but I don't think she's mentioned anywhere else. To whom is she connected?

Made a LinkedIn account, tried to connect with Zach.

Truth is, I don't like the "business/corporate" angle of this.

Ok, so the photo at the bottom is the satellite view of the actual location.Top photo is a street view of the corner of Central Ave and Melrose Ave, because that's as close as google gets. As you can see though, it definitely doesn't seem like a commercial area.

Nicole is in the trailer, as well as being mentioned as one of Tyler's "Best friends" on the deleted site.
