if need be, we can put on the wiki and edit.

As it seems obvious, the 1920 olympics sent 2626 athletes from 29 countries for 154 events.

Bloody hell faster that I can put them up and write on a forum.

It is the black ring.

I've now got it on the top of my bookshelf in the middle of the room. we took 2 lots of pictures of the inside of the ring, so if anythings not clear, wait while chippy puts his up too.

WE GOT IT!!

Here's my account.
I've only a few pics. cubicgarden, davemee and sward have taken many more, including video etc.
Yes. I wore a suit! No. I didn't have a monocle.

So I arrived just after 5pm (missed the earlier train) and met sward and cubicgarden in the cafe next door.

After introductions, we exchanged information about where the ring was located, who was in the gallery, and what to say, although I had already rehearsed it (even dreamt about it last night! Wink

So, a quick slurp of lemonade and a quick tidy up in the mirror, and I headed out. No time for nerves.

Tried to open the door. It wouldn't move! "oh my god, they've shut early", I thought, but no, there was a bell to ring, and they buzzed you in. It was more of a pop-art shop than a proper gallery.

Strode up to the counter, a lady (previously described by my friends in cafe next door, and i made sure they remained seated next door!) was seated there,

I said in a loud, confident tone "I'm looking for the Ringkeeper"
they said: "ringkeeper?"
"yes, I'm the official transporter of the ring, and I'm here to collect it"
"but how do you know we have a ring?"
"Ahh, I know you have it, this is the right place" (Later on, I clarified "I send some scouts here earlier on today, to see if you still had it" - she was a bit picky on this subject)
"well now, in that case, what's the password?"
"Thermantia" (pronounced Ther-man-tee-ahh) - I figured they wouldnt have read up on ancient greek spellings Wink
"OK, then you can have it."
and we walked over to the display case, and then she called over for the box from the lad who worked there.
On the way there, still in character, I ask "So, you had some trouble earlier on, we may have been compromised" and she says "well, there is a protocol to follow..." I replied, "well, those were nothing to do with me, they were obviously on the opposite team!"

She said, well, theres the protocol, and that she emailed the people and they said she had done the right thing.

And, after packing the ring up into the box, and a couple of pleasantries, although I wasn't allowed to talk about much, and they said they were not allowed to ask me questions, I left, and she went to email those in charge to say we had it.

Entered the cafe, and celebrated a bit laterdown the pub, with it standing on the table. It was a great topic of conversation with many people coming up and asking what it was. We even met an eccentric lady who said she spoke some esperanto.

Cubicgarden is looking after the ring, after traipsing around manchester for several days in hunt of it. I'm glad I paid my part well, and got it safe into our hands!

that's me Smile

edits: just emailed eli and james saying we've got it safe now.

Thanks, dante, it's easily recognized that the three lines can be cut simultaneously before "KONATA", and that the phrases left to the cutting point seem to me promising to make the final instruction for multiverse voyages.

And thank you for your report, chippy - your photo is funny!

That's fantastic!!! I was really worried that they had caught on or something! I keep checking to see if there's a new voicemail... I dunno how else they'd communicate the ring location though...here's hoping!

Re: Photos
More photos of the third ring

Hi hi hi everybody,

I watched the Olympic ring unboxing.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
While large and heavy, I think the ring will be consigned to the Olympics' history. It's a product with no real application, no gotta-have features, and is modelled in a form factor entirely unsuitable for either pockets or today's always-connected, gotta-go lifestyle. Thumbs down from this reviewer.

BREAKDOWN
The review box we recieved was interestingly styled as though it had just been shipped out of SanFran, festooned in plastic envelopes and delivery stamps, which was a nice touch. In the store, I think this may confuse consumers who will think the product is awaiting store approval before being placed on the shelves, unless this is a really clever marketing move from the Olympics guys. This probably won't affect online sales, and may in fact alert online purchasers as to the exact appearance of the produce when the postman or delivery driver appears.

The device arrived uncharged, as it should do - long-term storage of LiOn batteries fully charged is always a bad idea. It seems the designers have eschewed the increasingly standard USB mini charging socket, and instead require you to wire the device directly into the mains, using the stand as the positive terminal and the actual ring as the negative. We haven't been able to charge it yet, as the coffee shop seemed rather reticent to cooperate on wiring the device up, citing health and safety legislation. Another thumbs down, I'm afraid.

Compatibility was excellent, working as a wheel, a noose, a necklace, and emulating a number of other devices. The mirror mode seemed to be defective, simply revealing the other side of the ring, rather than reflecting the presented image. Perhaps this will be fixed in the next generation ring (codename LONDON).

In all, considering the high price tag and packaging confusion, I'd recommend waiting till the kinks are ironed out in either the upcoming LONDON model or (can I say this?) the unannounced BARROW-IN-FURNESS edition scheduled for 2016.

the baudot code has changed.
in ring 1, I believe it said
Code:
  .        . .  .
 .. .. .  . . . .
-----------------
.  . ..  ..   .
    . ...   ..
 .     .. .    .
_la_ringo_perdita

Ring 3 is different. It says

Code:
_la ringo_sesa_
  .       ....  .       ....  .
 .. .. .     . .. .. .     . ..

.  . ..  .. . .  . ..  .. .
    . ...         . ...
 .     ..      .     ..

where I use _ for SPACE.

OR - the baudot changes as you go around, and la_ringo_sesa is the part of the ring that belongs to the Sixth Ring.

You can clearly tell where the SESA section is, and where the perdita section is.

perdita looks like an M on the top row:
Code:
 . .
. . .

Whereas the Sesa section looks different:
Code:
....
   .
