[META] Organizing the Axon Puzzle... Just a suggestion to the Admins, if it's not well received, just lock this thread and give it a burial at sea (play taps, too).
There seem to have been 3 distinct schools of thought that have surfaced regarding this puzzle. As a result, about a dozen separate threads have surfaced, one of which is on pace to break a forum-speed record for quickest growing thread. Reading through each of these threads is frustrating enough... I could just imagine how much fun it is to moderate.
So, I suggest that 3 threads are created as follows:
1) Axons Puzzle: Numerical
2) Axons Puzzle: Relative
3) Axons Puzzle: Literal
The numerical thread encompasses all those who believe the coordinates can be solved mathematically. Either by: A) disregarding that they are coordinates and using them as a series of numbers to find a hidden message, B) assuming they are coordinates, but using the locations to find new coordinates or a hidden message, C) finding a graphical representation of the coordinates which communicates a mesage or points to a new location.
The relative thread supports the faction which believe that the coordinates are literal places, but the surrounding buildings/landmarks/streets/wifi/etc. are the key to the solution. This thread would be a good place to discuss our findings at the locations (and those at the wiki) without bothering the mathematicians.
The literal thread (might not even be necessary) is for those who believe that we are just suppose to show up at these locations when the Axons "Go Hot." This theory has pretty much been shot down since some of the locations have been found to be on private property, in front of the Sears Tower (think: a group of online dweebs gathering w/ their GPS en masse when the countdown ends... don't think the city of Chicago's gonna like that), and even one in a forest. However, I don't think this theory can be thrown out completely, as it hasn't been completely disproven.
Okay... I realize this still leaves the old threads to sort through for new folks, but they could always be locked and referenced when necessary. I also realize this might be better applied to the Wiki. But I guess I just have a little OCD and want us to be organized in solving this puzzle.

I second this. We've pretty much coalesced around either a geophysical or a geopositional solution set, so now it's a matter of organizing our work. Beyond that, we also need to start coordinating our efforts. It's obvious that this is going to require several angles of attack, each one burning a fair number of man-hours.
Thoughts?

This sounds like a really good idea. Unfortunately, there are already about four different threads about the coordinates and the mods and admins don't have a great deal of spare time to go through and figure out how to break them all up and reorganize them. However, if you guys want to get together and make us a chart of which posts and threads (by id number) should be merged under what headings, we could probably implement it for ya.

I think the idea is not to segregate the existing threads into their appropriate places, just to lock them and let the new threads develop as they may. I think it is a great idea.

Heh; I'm bored enough. I might just do that. How desperate am I for entertainment?

I had already tried to enact this organizing to an extent with this thread but half the posts were off the topic stated on the top of the thread anyway.

Yep there are currently what, at least 15 threads on the coordinates now. I've been posting in lots of them - I can't even remember what topic correlates with what thread as they have long since deviated from their original purposes.
I'd say lock em - make 2 or 3 new ones, maybe even sticky or something - give everyone the heads up and then rabidly enforce OTness. And forbid creation of any new threads without mod permission?
This is really the first REAL puzzle we've been given on this ARG. It's gonna take some wicked organization.
or maybe not - maybe we just have to show up on the 24th to pick up our halo t-shirt.

It was a good idea in theory, but I'm not gonna back this thing up by actually doing anything! I think I'd like to see this thread get a viking funeral... is there an icon for a lock on fire?

I'm all for tying a huge rock to the entire puzzle section and throwing it out of a boat off the coast of southern california.

I'm gonna keep bumping this thread until any MOD comes out of the woodwork to at least say "no".

Kill 'em all, let the market sort 'em out All right, since we don't have any thumbs-up or -down from the mods, let's just get this in gear and let them lock it if they so desire. Too many dupe threads, too many pages in each thread.
EDIT:
Grout said in another thread:

Yeah, that's what I meant. MORE threads. Thanks a lot.
I kid. I appreciate that there are other people out there besides me that want to focus and organize our efforts... but I doubt it's gonna happen unless a MOD shows up and cleans this forum out. That or we find a new site to do our arguing on.
I humbly suggest the mods mass-lock the current threads and force us to begin with a new slate. There were so many competing proposals, data roundups, and discussions after the geocoords were released that it's impossible to wade through them, and the few pieces of data that appear to still be operative (or at least not entirely debunked) are lost in the sea of dross (to which I contributed, yes).
