Think about this. When Desmond left the barrier of the island, he had some issues with time. When the island was "moved" perhaps that would jostle everyone through time. Faraday could still be on the island correct? What if he was put back to that time?

Just a theory.

It's interesting to note that Dr. cheng used the word "pinhole". The Kerr metric is used to describe the rotation of black holes and how everything, including light, must rotate when near a black hole. When the Kerr metric is applied to Einstien's general relativity, we get a wormhole (think "Stargate"). According to wikipedia: "Since the trajectory of observers and particles in general relativity are described by time-like curves, it is possible for observers in this region to return to their past."

That definitely sounds important. Smile

If you wish, i could try to explain it better. These scientific theories are actual theories, and they seem to be important in the upcoming seasons of Lost. They could most likely explain alot of the properties of the Island, especially the "frozen donkey wheel" that Ben moved that made the Island go *poof* at the end of season 4.

No hacking, please. Let's wait until they open it.

I didn't hack those...that is the contents of my "Activities" folder (Mac) when I go to that site. On a PC it would be "Temporary Internet Files". I believe it was legally determined during POC that utilizing this info is not considered "hacking". The creator of the site determines what info is placed in our folders. Obviously they know what they are doing because the critical file is not loaded up.

And count me as one who would like to hear you explain these theories a little less mathematically. I know it's used to prove out the theories, but since we are dealing with fiction anyway, a "story" form would help--me at any rate.

Oh, sorry. You're right. I just don't want anyone to hack this game like they did with Find 815.

I am trying to grasp these concepts. I have an "if this, then that" type question.....

The one theory talks about gravitational pull, and how something that is constantly moving to begin with, is likely to be able to loop. Then it says, "An object's possible future locations are limited by the speed that the object can move, which is at best the speed of light."

In plate tectonics we learn about how the earth's crust is constantly moving....Southern California moves something like a foot a year northwest. So, in 30 years, just how far could an island move? Not far enough in my uninformed mind....at least not far enough away to totally disappear. If it was truly an island. But what if it was some giant raft and that donkey wheel was retracting the anchor? Then the possibilities would be endless, I assume.

EDIT: please feel free to point out how stupid this is, because I really know NOTHING about relativity and time/space travel theories!!

This has nothing to do with plate tectonics. Whatever happened to the Island, it was well beyond normal physics. So, forget about that.

i'm not a scientist, so i cannot explain everything. But, all of these theories: the Kerr Metric, the theory of relativity....they are all used alot in science fiction. The entire Stargate plot is based upon these theories. Star Trek uses them. Hell, even HG Well's Time Machine used it. If you can understand most science fiction, this isn't too much.

A black hole is a collapsed star. A black hole has an insane amount of gravity to it and nothing can escape its pull, including light. The Kerr metric is used to describe the rotation of these black holes, because black holes rotate like a hurricane. It's central "eye" it the strongest part of it, where gravity is so intense that it can crush anything.

The theory of general relativity is an actual theory created by the legendary Albert Einstein. This theory describes gravity as a part of space and time; they are interconnected. The theory of relativity is the theory that actually stated that black holes could be created in space from collapsed stars and that they "curve" space and time around itself.

So, since black holes have these insane amounts of gravity, black holes slow down time the closer you get to them. If you ever saw the Stargate SG-1 "A Matter of Time", this is exactly what i'm talking about. In fact, they explain it perfectly in that episode.

Now, it is possible that wormholes, which are tunnels through space and time, could exist that would allow a person to visit his or her own past. If you ever saw the Stargate SG-1 episode "Ripple Effect", it's similar to that.

Now, it's quite possible that the Island moved through a wormhole. That would explain why Ben said that it was "unpredictable" and dangerous. A wormhole cannot be "focused", so it's endpoint can be anywhere and any time, according to theory. Now, the series Stargate has found a way to focus it, and Star Trek found some that were and weren't focused on a point in space and time.

::::::::breaking out the Stargate SG-1 dvds, pepsi, popcorn, and notebook::::::::

(Do I admit that the only reason I watched Stargate before was because I think Richard Dean Anderson is a hottie?)

I didn't get the chance to weigh in on all this, because I've been so busy during Con, but it seems like every detail has now been covered. All I can say is that this was by far the coolest "experience" of this year's convention. Very well produced. The booth was beautiful, and (despite the frustrated efforts of many people) the women there never broke character. The way it was tied into the 'Lost' panel was just brilliant... I could go on and on...

During a year when Comic-con was being flooded with viral marketing, this one definitely stood above the crowd. I can't wait to see how this unfolds.

You might be surprised to learn that this new Octagon ARG is made by the same people who did Find 815, Hoodlum.

sorry for double post but i've only seen up to the end of season 2 of lost so far still trying ot catch up lol, hopefully i can still play the arg and note I do not care about spoilers unless it deals with people dying but since i'm in this situation with trying to catch up i see it as inevitable so please no random flames

and on another note, will this trailhead get its own subforum soon?

Well, you have some amazing television ahead of you!

I doubt that there will be any spoilers involved in this, because I doubt that DHARMA would mention any characters at all.

Okay, i think we are in need of a recap of the events at Comic-Con, so here it goes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NT7G1hXDvo Part 3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EchDKE1uOBA Part 5

People took a test at the DHARMA booth. There was a video at the booth that was transmitted by Bluetooth. This was almost a complete failure due to technical diffculites. We got a glimpse of it, though, and it's basically a "hacked" version of the video showed on the outside of the DHARMA booth.

At the LOST panel, Hans Van Eeghen announced the results: everyone failed dismally except for a few. These few were taken back to the booth where they were shown a secret video. Dan Bronsen, a geeky teenager with a small video camera, recorded it and interupted Damon and Carlton to show it to everyone. Here's a transcript:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Hello. My name is Dr. Marvin Candle and i....you know what? Forget it. No point in games anymore, right? If you're watching this now, you already know that my name is, my real name is Pierre Cheng and i...(baby cries off screen and the Doctor looks over. He gets up from the couch and yells: "Jennifer! Just take him outside, please! I've got one chance at this." He sits back down.) [static] ...professor of (something) astro-physics from Ann Arbor, Michigan. I was brought [static] years ago to conduct experiments to study the Kerr metric solution to the Einstein field equation and... [static] If i can hold this pinhole open long enough, you should be recieving my message roughly thirty years [static] If you're... [static] The American president is a man named George W. Bush and you share digital infomation instantaneously on something called "internet". And, unfortunatly, my colleagues and i are all dead [static] and if, of a violent purge, one that we are apparently powerless to escape. (he looks down sadly at his right arm, which looks normal, and grasps it with his other normal hand). [static] This infomation comes to me from a source that has proven himself to be credable.

Other man (possibly Daniel Faraday): None of that matters. It doesn't matter. Just get to it, please! [static]

Dr. Cheng: Because, if this transmission is successful, it's proof the work i've been doing here is valid. This place, it has extraordinary properties. I'm begging you, no matter what's happened, it's imperative that the DHARMA Initiative be reconstituted. You have to continue to research [static] and you have to do it now. Time is not just of the essence, it is the essence. Perhaps you'll be able to find a way to save us, to change the past and to [static] (something) You can't let it....

Other man: This is useless! Alright? It's just useless. They'll never gonna see this. How do i turn this off?

Dr. Cheng: No, no! W-w-what are you doing?

Other man: How do you turn it off?

Dr. Cheng: No! What are you doing? [static]

We've heard of the Kerr metric before. It was in Daniel Faraday's journal in "The Constant".

And that was pretty much it. I think that Comic-Con was stage one of this ARG, and it is now over. Stage Two, the website(s), begins this monday. Be there.

The other voice in the video is Daniel Faraday. I'm sure of it. What that means, I dunno. It's awesome though.

People looking for transcripts. Please look back a few pages there's been lots of information posted.
