[City labyrinth] Kitchener rrgh... ok so I'm started a thread for this one as it looks like I'm going to really attempt this.
I got a reply back from Eli regarding these designs for Kitchener, Ontario:
I really thought the first one, the smaller one, would be good... but alas, he says:

However, as we have seen from the omphaputer, it appears uneven and
clunky circuits are not getting calculated as part of our omph
strength. So when we design 3-circuit labyrinths, all 3 circuits
reallly have to be quite labyrinthine -- or else it won't count as a
knot at all. We have more latitude with larger circuits, since we can
lose some and still meet the minimum knot requirements.
So what do we need? Smooth paths, roughly evenly spaced, and clearly a
labyrinth to a casual observer. I commend youre effrots! I do think
however that these Kitchener designs still lack the truly labyrinthine
quality -- the circuits cut off at odd angles occasionally and have
little pockets to account for roads.
For a labyrinth this small, would it not be better to pick open
terrain where you can design any pattern? Or to pick a neighborhood
with more amenable streets?
I hope you receive your trackstick from Kai in time, and wish you luck
in your journey!
Sincerely yours,
Eli Hunt
not good enough... this isn't going to be easy...
If you'd like to help, Kitchener is here .

1) trackstick is on its way!
2) I revised the smaller labyrinth on a meticulous level to try to round things out and take more into consideration places where walking is possible (parking lots, etc) - got to be careful of tall buildings though... but we don't have any really tall buildings... just a few 10-15 floor office/complexes... anyway
revised:
new smaller labby (ends on the doorsteps of city hall):

Cool, let us know what Eli says. If he doesn't like that, how do you feel about a trip to Cambridge? Here's one I think might work for Cambridge: http://tinyurl.com/5a579m . I started to look for possibilities in Kitchener but I gave up more quickly than you .

I think your 4th labyrinth design is going to pass.

it's a go...! Eli green-lighted both the last two layouts.
I still like the 3rd because it trvels through the park; it starts at a historic building and ends at the clocktower, an area being re-landscaped (old and new!) and it passes city hall

I agree on the third, thebruce - love the curve around the lake in the park too.

Congratulations!
I looked at Kitchener and, while a lovely place to visit, I wouldn't want to design a labyrinth there.
I also think that it's nice to have a cool beginning and, especially, ending point.

Ok! Kitchener labyrinth was done today... photo are uloaded and here:

KMZ file (adjusted the line a bit to fix 'drifted' points, like walking in the road or over rooftops , adjusted to more accurately reflect my path) uploaded here:
Working on getting the flickr pics located on the map (possibly an updated KMZ with linked photos )
it was a very nice day, and about 1h50m for the 4.3m trip... good stuff
eta: and here's the trackstick result:

thanks; and it's a little easier, less restrictive, doing it on foot than in a car
knowing the area like the back of my hand, it was easier to map routes more accurately, with paths and whatnot... but walking along streets to extend crossing them is not easy busier streets were more difficult, but backroads you can walk quite some time before a car comes, hehe. I forgot a couple notes along the way though (wrong side of the street, or not quite as smooth a section as planned), but overall I think it turned out fine... though I'd say its 'smoothness' (considering Eli's initial rejection of the route because of its lack of 'labyrinthine'-ness) is somewhere between the initial proposal and the approved proposal... so hopefully it's good enough for him

You must've received the magical Trackstick that doesn't do wonky things on you.
I walked with the Trackstick in my neighborhood for one of the test routes and it made it look like I had walked through (or over) buildings and had taken tiny detours that I hadn't taken.
That is a nice omphalabyrinth--great job!

oh it did do wonky things... but you can adjust the line. The initial recorded points are the same, but you can adjust the wonky drift points in the red line. There were a few... sometimes if I was still to take some photos, you could see the drift occur with a few recorded points.
I still have the original KMZ anyway...
