Neither of the labyrinths you came up with so far have very equal circuits either, Eli might turn them down.

That's what I fear - but I really have no idea where else to do them, unless one wants to be VERY adventurous and do one up on Holmenkollen ... The problem with Oslo is pretty much the same as in Wellington: Mountains and water all around the city. Rembrandt_chi's local contact, who knows the place far better than we do, will have to design the labyrinth by him- or herself, I guess.

Only Majorstuen has a nice and evenly spaced street pattern that seems to promise a better design, but I'm lacking 1 (ONE!) #@§! street here for a three-circuit labyrinth.

What about this for Oslo? http://tinyurl.com/5un6k6

Yep, Majorstuen. I just wonder whether that inner thingummy will count as a full circuit.

Got news from Natashquan cultural association this morning, the staff is going to talk to the head of department and will get back to us ASAP. Canzonett, we should start designing a labyrinth ASAP. I'm going to send Eli an e-mail asking what kind of other documentation might suffice for our Multiverse counterparts to be able to follow the labyrinth according to this one, should the trackstick not make it over there in time.

EDIT : E-mail to Eli sent.

This is the Natashquan you get to see when searching for "Natashquan" on Google Maps? The Google Map is really bad. There are definitely not enough roads there to use them as omphalabyrinth paths (for that, we'd need at least 7 more or less parallel roads both horizontally and vertically in order to sketch a 3-circuit omphalabyrinth). So we need a free area of about 600m in diameter (3 stadia!). But where? All I see is water and forest. Do you think it would suffice to send them some examples how a 3-circuits labyrinth might look like, inform them about the necessary requirements and then just ask them to choose their own path and place where to do it?!

It's exactly the same pattern as I sent to Eli for Montreal, and he said it was "a perfect 3-circuit labyrinth." I followed the path you'd trace if you were walking a type of labyrinth shown at http://www.geomancy.org/images/3pathopp-ani_1.gif.

Canzonett : Yes, the map on Google Maps is pretty bad and we'll definitely need more information before we can provide a top notch labyrinth. However...

Hi Thomas,

Natashquan! You don't say. What an excellent idea.

I would imagine that a Google map drawing of the labyrinth, combines
with key photographs -- say, at the points of labyrinth turnings --
would be sufficient.

I look forward to a potential Natashquan labyrinth.

Sincerely yours,

Eli Hunt

I guess an ideal 3-circuit omphalabyrinth would look more or less like this - but Google Maps really doesn't help in this case (same as with Reykjavik - one must know the place in order to "decipher" the satellite pictures and know where to put the paths!).

dreamerblue, great to know that Eli already approved of this design for Montreal! It was just strange to see that you posted a proposal for a labyrinth in Majorstuen at about the same moment I had added a similar pattern to my Oslo map myself! (Does synchronisation work within one world as well?)

looking at the map one can find on Mapquest is no very reassuring either. In that context, all one can hope before we get more information is that there is actuakky enoug space between the buildings that a labyrinth runner would be able to navigate he design within town borders, if not along th town's streets.[/url]

The size should be alright. What bothers me is the fact that the Google satellite picture has been taken during winter season, and that there are many structures in the pictures that look like frozen brooks or rivers.

Edit:

FEEDBACK, please!
If the people of Natashquan manage to do this, they'll be the biggest omphalabyrinth heroes ever. A city labyrinth without a city!

Bergen, Norway

I've been following the game since its beginning. Now I can finally help, perhaps. The only problem is that I am a bit too busy these days, but I may be able to walk a omphalab in my home town Bergen some day after the 15th of august.

Is there a final date for when the labs must be completed? Or can we keep it on till the closing ceremonies?

Anyway here's Bergen

If any of you pro labydesigners would like to give it a try. It's not very labyrinth friendly I'm afraid.

Hej Troag,

it would be gorgeous to have an omphalabyrinth in Bergen!!! However, we really don't have much time for this, since all omphalabyrinths should be completed by 8 August (if I understand Ariadne's blog post correctly). You might ask Eli if he thinks a labyrinth still will be useful after that day. Do you think you might be able to spare one hour or two next week and do an omphalabyrinth before the opening ceremony in Beijing?

Since it's highly unlikely a trackstick will arrive at your place in time, I guess you might follow Eli's recommendations regarding the Natashquan labyrinth:

Quote:
I would imagine that a Google map drawing of the labyrinth, combined

would be sufficient.

Do you think the following design would work?

The path is only 5km long, it would take you just about an hour to walk it.

Hey Canzonett, just checked your design submission for Natashquan. I think it'd work pretty well as it is - I'm going to send it to the Natashquan Copacte and see if they think it can be done. Keeping you informed !

It would be too great if this worked ... If we get a valid omphalabyrinth in Natashquan AND if mcorange manages to complete the Reykjavík omphalabyrinth, we are two great steps closer to our final aim!

Rembrand_chi, have you heard from your friend in Oslo?
Troag Lee, can you spare one tiny little hour to do the Bergen omphalabyrinth?

Canzonett: I'm away all next week but I will perform the lab tomorrow.

Judging from the look of it, compared to which other labyrinths Eli has approved, I think it will be ok with him. I'll probably contact him about it after it's done.

I'll bring a camera and document every twist and turn.

Thanks again for the design.
