[Trailhead?] The Last Command Matrix-esque type site www.last-command.com
From ARGN:
Quote:
In a tip received on July 21st -- right smack dab in the middle of a trip to the Boston Aquarium -- we received a link to last-command.com. The site is Matrix-esque, and promises, "When the last command runs, this site may save your life." Sweet! Now, if only we knew what the last command was, so we'd know to watch out for it. In the meantime, we can tell you that the domain information is conveniently hidden by Domains by Proxy, and that tonight we submitted our email, with this as the speedy response:
Quote:
you are becoming part of the last command.
three pieces of already-public data will add you to the dnk subroutine. answer honestly or begone.
give: 1. your full name ("Jonas Sternberg") 2. your city of birth ("Vienna") 3. a parent's name and relation ("son of Moses"). all three are needed. parent's name and birth city can be withheld from publication upon request.
end the message with a complete statement from those three pieces of data. "Joseph Steinberg of Vienna, son of Moses." done.
save yourself. enter into the subroutine. your information and e-mail will not be shared or sold - until it is taken from us all.
- Last Programmer
We responded with "Evan Chan of Shanghai, son of Nancy." Bonus points for those who 'get it.' If anything else develops, we'll let you know...
BTW, just got the email; it comes from dnkprogramSPLAT gmail.com
Edit: There are a bunch of links, one leads off to http://bladerunnerthemovie.warnerbros.com . Maybe it's a promotion? (Which would be awesome, "Blade Runner" has to rank in as one of the best movies ever )

I'd be wary of this one. If you're going to respond, lie.
Birth city and mother's maiden name are common pieces of information requested by credit card companies.
Edit: It leads to Blade Runner, the Matrix, and a whole crapload of other sites, which would seem to me an attempt to generate more traffic than clues.

I never give out my real info for ARGs; degravedi is a persona all its own.

Many people are, in the words of Niven, insufficently paranoid

You're *probably* safe, just watch your credit report.
And google your email address to see if there's anything else out there on you

Like stratagos said, we're just the type of people who are paranoid. Perhaps rightfully so in some cases, but for the most part, with a tip to ARGN, this is in all likelyhood safe.

All of the names in the top right "In the subroutine" box refer to cast and crew from two movies, both named "The Last Command." (1928 and 1955) (The guy referred to in the email, Jonas von Sternberg, was also in the 1928 film.)
Can't figure out what that means, if anything. I've tried putting in "Sterling Hayden of Upper Montclair, son of George," but got nothing back. There's no one in the cast/crew of either movie whose initials are DNK.
That's all I've got for now.

I was under the impression that DNK probably just stood for Do Not Kill.
The website keeps calling it the "Do Not Kill Subroutine".
Good call on the movies. I didn't even investigate it. I just assumed that the names where being sent in from people.

I'm leaning towards Terminator on this. Could be wrong but with the rise of the robots theme?
The DO NOT KILL SUBROUTINE could tell the robots not to kill the people on the list.

Noticed a login, has anyone tried it or get anything back from their emails that might be a login?

AI, reliance on computers to fail, very Terminator-ish. Probably a viral or ARg for the 4th film.
