Update?

I think so.

There were 2 comments approved for Mike's last blog entry, one from me, and one from a very spamish looking spycam ad. Then i realized that when i'd submitted my comment it said it had to be approved by mike before posting, so the spycam ad either was a mistake... or something else.

So i clicked on it and low and behold:

http://parvuluspatroni.blogspot.com/2008/07/blog-post.html

a new blog for us to follow!

Title: Parvulus Patroni (Latin, gotta shake the cobwebs outta those brain cells)

Parvulus: most common meaning is child, also given the prophecy, this seems a likely meaning

Patroni: protector, advocate... i think protector sounds good ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patronus )

if anyone remembers latin better than me plz speak up and forgive any errors i may be making, i havn't translated anything since highschool. but given the endings of the two words, parvulus/child is in the nominative (subject) position and patroni/protector is in the Genitive (possessive) which would give "child of the protector"... but as i said i'm nowhere near sure...

or now that i think of it, you could also take patroni as just being nominative plural (also a subject) which would give "child protectors"
which, now that i think about it, that sounds better and makes more sense overall, what do you all think?

PS: not sure who or what is in the pic, tried destegging but no luck so far...

PPS: not sure if this was previously discussed, but, has anyone been to the treehouse site lately? There's been some strange convo going on for a while, unless that was some of us, but i'm not sure...

Sry for the double post but i didint want to keep adding on the old one, and i thought this might organize it a bit.

the original comment on mikey's blog was:

Quote:
Think your spouse is cheating on you? You need Gabe's Spy Cam. Guaranteed undetectable by your cheating spouse. Gabe's Spy Cam is easy to hide and sends signals wirelessly to a digital video recording device. Visit GabesSpyCams.com and just say CHEESE

from IP: 120.84.73.659

CHEESE was the key word for the stegged pic in the blog...

gives out a text file:

Quote:

EX OSBCURUM, LUX LUCIS

{.WGDSPBAGCLCMCXPILSNWNUHTA}

{..NIWUFEGLASEUYPSMQKNEDXOSNZU6CZKSQYRET6ZGWSUDAETLASDZOQKHHCUIHEOEFLU6ZIVPMOAEAPDHGPMYAUBNOIISAA4}

{....NMBYTSAHLSTITZJSHZLNSVBYYWHNIURQXBY}

{.VXLQS7MYVWNMOATSRUPYNTZNPFMTALEXLSKPPE5DRTBETTGTVG}

{..SSGEFUYJG9MVUXAQKBWQCSKA4ZGCILKSMA4SQSCZKNOHANMQISQESOJMG6OOKBYOMDHYT9HXMAUSVGNQVYOBGTUPDVCIEANVYHT9HWPBSGUMFVVYOI}

{.XDLBRNK6SPEZDPQW3ZSGCPIUHBMDMXWTZKZSSVZQNW}

{.......XJFOUERK5BBFQ}

More latin, (yay); and a code!

EDIT: okay the "EX OSBCURUM, LUX LUCIS" (roughly translated as "the light from the darkness") part that begins this message is exactly how Amun ended his letter to Mike Surrey. This makes me believe that this message is from Amun.

Sorry, but how did you use CHEESE with the image to get that text?

Also, this seems like it might be a good time to use that cypher wheel, although I have no idea how.

I used a program called "camouflage", which can be downloaded for free, and used to hide or take out secret messages from picture files by using passwords, all i had to do was select "uncamouflage", and type in "cheese".

Good point, this seems perfect for the cypher wheel!

OMG!

Cipher wheel = BINGO

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If I align the first ten letters of the message in the wheel, the letter immediately below it form "THE WORLD IS"

I'll translate the rest right now!

The last octet is invalid; all numbers in an IP must be less than 256.

Just a nod to the cipher wheel, I would imagine.

Ok, so i sent a message to Mikey when I first found the Parvulus Patroni site, talking about the encrypted message (b4 Dionysus had decrypted it), and I guess Dionysus had sent him a message too after the message was decrypted, but this is what I got back:

Quote:

Thank you for sending this on to me. Perhaps I should check my e-mail from oldest to newest rather than vice versa? Andrew, I believe his name was without going back and double checking, sent me basically the same message you did. He did include the decryption for it, I guess using a cipher wheel he had found in Boston. I'm going to give you the short and skinny of it.

Amun wants me to help find and protect some "Awlyn" children that are missing. I'm not quite sure what an "Awlyn" is yet but I am going to offer to help. I just need him to give me more information about what is going on. He seems to want to keep this conversation between he and I somewhat private, why else encrypt it? So I suppose my next thing is to find a way to work it in to send him a message without the rest of the world realizing what it is.

Surf Safe,
Mikey Surry

does this mean we should help him encode a message with the cipher wheel?

Sounds like it. Maybe you should ask him if he's comfortable letting you or Dionysus translate his messages for him? It does sound like he's asking for encryption help.

I indeed email Mikey and was got a response as well (sorry for the delay, I've been in the city all day wandering around with friends. This si why I need an iPhone)

Dionysus wrote:
Mr Surry,

Hey Mikey. First of all, I want you to know how glad I am that you are doing better. It seems so unbelievable that a ritual would work like that.. and yet it certainly seemed to. Was it simply the power of suggestion... or could it be actual "magic" of some sort? I just... don't know. I try to keep an open mind. Certainly what I've seen and heard since comign across your website with the others has been unusual. Regardless, its good that you are well and I'm glad I could help.

Anyway, down to business. You may have noticed the seeming spam message form GabesSpyCams on the comment section of your recent blog post. Well, the link leads to a strange blogspot account.. certainly not a business, not even one nebulous enough to send spam like that. The blog is called Parvulus Patroni (apparently somthing along the lines of Protector of Children in Latin) and all there is is that one strange picture. Another friend who has been following your situation realized the image was stegged and using the password "CHEESE" pulled out a bunch of clearly encrypted text which follows:

EX OSBCURUM, LUX LUCIS

{.WGDSPBAGCLCMCXPILSNWNUHTA}

{..NIWUFEGLASEUYPSMQKNEDXOSNZU6CZKSQYRET6ZGWSUDAETLASDZOQKHHCUIHEOEFLU6ZIVPMOAEAPDHGPMYAUBNOIISAA4}

{....NMBYTSAHLSTITZJSHZLNSVBYYWHNIURQXBY}

{.VXLQS7MYVWNMOATSRUPYNTZNPFMTALEXLSKPPE5DRTBETTGTVG}

{..SSGEFUYJG9MVUXAQKBWQCSKA4ZGCILKSMA4SQSCZKNOHANMQISQESOJMG6OOKBYOMDHYT9HXMAUSVGNQVYOBGTUPDVCIEANVYHT9HWPBSGUMFVVYOI}

{.XDLBRNK6SPEZDPQW3ZSGCPIUHBMDMXWTZKZSSVZQNW}

{.......XJFOUERK5BBFQ}

Now, the latin in the begining is the same Amun used to end his letter to you. This lead me to break out the Cipher Wheel found in Boston and attempt to use it. It turns out that for each bracketed set you line up the code in groups of ten then, using the number of periods before that set, move up or down that number of rows and read the cleartext. The resulting message, apparently from Amun (who else coudl it be?) reads as follows:

THE WORLD IS FULL OF MYSTERIES

YOU CONSIDER YOUR ENCOUNTER WITH THE AWLYN CHILD A COINCIDENCE BUT I ASSURE YOU THIS
TURNING OF YOUR LIFE WAS FATED WE HAVE NEED OF SOMEONE WHO HAS YOUR SKILLS

MICHAEL SURRY PROTECTOR OF CHILDREN I CALL UPON YOU TO AID US

MANY OF OUR OWN CHILDREN HAVE DISAPPEARED AND THESE DISAPPEARANCES HAVE GONE WITHOUT REMARK ON THE PART OF THOSE WHO SHOULD PROTECT THEM

YOU HAVE PLEDGED YOUR LIFE TO PROTECTING CHILDREN

WILL YOU HELP US

It seems that Amun is asking for your help with the dissappearance of these Awlyn children... Look, this all seems rather.. incredible, but frankly..I mean, the ritual worked, didn't it? I guess what I'm saying is that if you choose to follow up on this, I - and others - would wish to support you. Partly out of curiosity to hear more about these "Awlyn" and find the truth of all this (I'm a curious fellow).. secondly, if there ARE children at risk, can anyone turn their back on them regardless of the tale?

I'm rambling now. I've been staring at that wheel for far too long and my brain is fuzzy. I hope to hear from you soon Mikey.

-Andrew

and the response I got from Mikey:

Michael Surry wrote:
Andrew,

I agree with you that the fact a ritual would work seems rather unbelievable. I'm not certain if it was actual magic or as you say power of suggestion. I can say that it did work, or well it seems to have worked anyway.

Yes I saw that spam comment. I actually did not mean to approve it. After reading your message I went to the blogspot account you mentioned and saw only that one picture. Interesting how you were able to determine that the picture was stegged, does your friend desteg everything he runs across?

As for the message - what does he mean by Awlyn children? I've not quite grasped that either. Anyway, children being absconded with - that is my thing, but I'm going to need more information then that to help him. Now I just have to figure out how to respond to him in kind. I assume he's wanting to keep the world from knowing what he's getting at with these messages.

I wonder if he realizes you guys are helping me and finding his messages? I'll ry not to make any mention of it so if he's got a temper he won't go off at us. Now I'm going to go try to figure out how to let him know I'm willing to help but need more information.

Surf Safe,
Mikey Surry

I was ABOUT to suggest offering to encode a message for him using the cipher wheel when I finished navigating over here and saw lostgunslinger already did so. Great minds think alike. Anyway, I fully offer to spend my time encoding any response he should wish to send should we go that path. I have the free time, its for a good cause and I LOVE playig\ng with the cipher wheel.
