I'm pretty sure this is about Halo. But, if it weren't, what other possibilities would there be? Maybe a new Marathon game?

It's about Halo. There's no doubt at this point. Rose has a list of Halo references in the ARG so far here.

As I speculated here, the only reason ilovebees.com was chosen as the trailhead site was as an in-joke (the dev team is known as "the Hive").

Yeah, as I said, that was my supposition too. I'd be kind of mad if it weren't. Mad

My first take of Halo2 is that the Cov will land an invasion force because there's an artifact or two on Earth they want to investigate and capture first. (If Aztec or Mayan pyramids, it won't be the first time they've cropped up in a Bungie game.) I'm curious to see if one of the following develops as a result of the story unfolding in this ARG:

A) This AI was sent back in time to warn Earth, giving us time to prepare for the invasion in 2300. Our technology can grow by leaps and bounds with the new knowledge. Unfortunately the Trojan also manages to send a message to the Cov, revealing Earth's location, but at lightspeed it takes a while for them to get the message. After destroying just one more Inner Colony for fun, the Cov jump for Earth.
It'll be a helluva battle.

B) The timetravelling AI manages to send a message through Slipspace, confirming to the fleets up in 2300 that time travel is possible. Both sides send fleets back in time, and in a couple of months present-day Earth is overrun by an alien invasion and aided by defenders from her future.
It'll be a helluva battle.

I think the chances of a Forerunner artifact being on Earth is pretty high. Otherwise Halo 2 would be a short game, no? Covs arrive, glass the place, credits roll.

I hate it when that happens to a perfectly good planet. And usually just after you've cornered the real estate market, too.

Edit: It also occurred to me that the end of this game won't have any effect on the Halo2 storyline, and we won't have any influence on Cov coming to Earth one way or the other, but hopefully the PM's will let us in on some juicy part of the backstory - the prize is we were among the first to read it. Having never played an ARG before, I don't know if there's a specific action we ought to take that "wins" the game, or if we just let it play out and pat our own backs for solving the puzzles before the solutions are published.
