-Amun's group is "The Shadows of Man" as indicated in his letter.
-The Dragon Council, may or may not have had anything to do with Diego's father's capture, but the letter from the father indicated that the council had put him in a position to help the people who had freed him.
-The kid's group, according to the hints in the videos, will be called SEAL, so they will be a third group.

 Message to Amun
stegged image attached

Okay, so in the main thread I threw out a couple of ideas for getting a message to Amun vicariously through Mikey. It's been a couple of days now and I've had a little bit of feedback so I went forward with them.

I stegged an image of a ststue of Amun (attached) with a passphrase of SUN GOD. I used the WinCipherWheel thing that TheIllustratedMan created to encrypt a message.

The image is named 1208473659.jpg to let Amun know how to orient the cipher wheel.

I also emailed Mikey with my thoughts on starting a new blog post about the Egyptian exhibit in the Houston Museum of Natural Science. I didn't have a way of attaching the file through the blog's "contact Mr. Surry" service so I am waiting on a response.

How does that sound to everyone? Anything else I should add?

But...
You forgot to alternate direction in the code.

I'm sure he'll figure it out Razz

Yeah I wasn't exactly sure how that worked. It's not too late since I haven't sent it to Mikey yet. Do I need to alternate up and down for each letter or each line of ciphertext?

nvm I figured it out. I will re-encrypt, re-steg and re-post.

Edit - done. I just removed the old attachment and added the new one in my post above.

I got a response from Mikey and I have responded with the image as an attachment.

Mr. Surry,
I have not contacted you before, but a friend of mine has informed me of your current predicament in getting a message to Amun. I have given some thought to the situation and I have devised a plan.

I believe we should follow the same steps that Amun took in getting his message to you. Your message should include an encrypted message hidden within an image and posted on your blog.

I have taken the liberty of creating an encrypted message hidden inside an image. I will happily send it to you as an attachment if you would like. The message simply states "I will help. What is thy bidding" I also included the Latin phrase CITO FIT QUOD DII VOLUNT which means "What the gods want happens soon". I think the phrase is fitting since 1) it was coined by a Roman literary named Patronius and 2) Amun is the name of the Egyptian sun god. In fact, the image I chose was that of a statue of Amun the sun god and the passphrase to unlock the hidden message is SUN GOD.

As far as getting the message to him without the world knowing, I think you could simply start a new blog post about a "visit" to the Houston Museum of Natural Science where on the lower levels is an Egyptian exhibit. You could easily work in the image and passphrase and none would be the wiser. The image of the Amun statue should be suficcient in grabbing Amun's attention and the rest will play out naturally.

I have run this idea by my friends and all seem to think it is a good plan. I would like your thoughts, as well. Also, I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. I hope you got around to buying that cheeseburger.

Regards,
Joe

Joe,

This sounds like a great idea. You mentioned having an image encrypted already with that message. I'll gladly post this image to my blog if you will. I've been tending to a tropical storm this week so I've been a bit behind on everything I've been wanting to do. Now that the storm's moved on and I actually have an opportunity to do things for myself, I'll post the blog and try to figure out all this editing software for the video. Novak's being a pain in my backend about this. He's so strongly against the ritual stuff that he's even talked about de-hosting my website. He normally helps with all this computer stuff, but not this - so I've got to do it all myself. I never would have imagined he would have a problem with it of all people.

PS: The cheeseburger was great! I thought it was someone else I mentioned fetching a cheeseburger to, but alas I know my memory isn't that great at the moment. I cooked some bean soup tonight. A bachelor's dream meal, you take leftovers and dump into ziplock bags and throw them into the freezer - enough for a week or two.

Surf Safe,
Mikey Surry

Like I said I responded with the image as an attachment and I also said that if he needed help with video editing then my friends would be happy to help. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Yay! Great job on the image. Didn't he mention wanting a cheeseburger at the end of his blog? No matter, can't wait to see how it goes!

Good going! I guess we needed to initiate the whole thing. I was waiting for some sort of "here, encode this" message from him. Oh well.

Also, it was me he mentioned the cheeseburger to. Now he's going to be all creeped out that we're sharing his emails verbatim with each other.

Man, I could have swore that cheeseburger part was on his blog somewhere. Guess not. Well if he mentions it again (which I doubt) I'll just stick to the "tight circle of friends" refrain.

Nice work! Yeah, I've also mentioned that we've got multiple ppl collaborating on his behalf, which he might assume from the coordination of the gathering of the ritual materials anyway...

Novak
What's his deal?

Interesting, ne? I've been waiting to see if we were going to hear more about Novak. Sounds like an interesting guy. But if he's so strongly against what Mikey's gotten himself into, we should probably refrain from commenting on Mikey's blog and stick to email, at least on matters of hoodoo.

In the meantime, I'd sure like to know what Novak's problem is with the ritual stuff. I mean, it made his friend better.... (or did it?? Razz ) Maybe there's something in Novak's past that makes him super-skittish around stuff like this. Or maybe he's in on it! Shocked

Just an idea, but we could ask Mikey if he has any idea why Novak would be so resistant to the ritual. Especially since it seems to have saved his friend's sanity, if not his life.

I kind of hinted at that in my response to Mikey.

Some more background on this Novak guy. So we know that he is an adulterer and an "underground hacker" (to use Mikey's words) but he draws the line a occult activity.

Thanks for sending me the picture with the message. I hope it gets the point across. I'm going to write something creative for him, so that it fits with what I do. Novak's a little freaked out by anything that might be black magic, voodoo, hoodoo, or whatever it was. I've got no inhibitions in those regards, obviously. I think it's the way his parents raised him, sheltered in a southern baptist home. He rebelled a bit, but for the most part he's still scared of some things that might spiritually condemn him.

So - now we get to find out what this Amun fella wants me to do. Thanks for the help.

Surf Safe,
Mikey Surry

Also, it looks like the blog post was just added.

eidt for some reason, the password to unsteg the image posted on the blog is all lower case.

Hee! Hoodoo! Shoutout ftw! Laughing

Given what little we know about Novak so far, I'm not sure I buy that his aversion is just due to a Southern Baptist upbringing, but I guess time will tell.
