Oh whoops I thought it was supposed to start at 3:30. We should definitely meet 30-60 minutes beforehand--I'll be there an hour before, anyway Razz

Maybe those of us who - like me - won't be members of the competing teams could form some sort of multiversal olympic cheerleading committee and document their efforts as well?

Mr Judkins, is there anything you've done to get your webcam to work outside? My attempt was too bright to see anything. I was wondering if maybe there are UV or IR filters that might make it better. Just using it the other day at home, I noticed a very bright square in the image where I have a window. The window is stained glass, and the blinds were mostly closed, but there was still SOMETHING washing out the webcam image.

I don't know what else to do. I'll try and see if maybe my other webcam will work. it's USB, so maybe it'll work better.

Yeah, I was wondering what was happening with your webcam - what brand and model laptop is it? Might there be a configuration menu where you can adjust the brightness/contrast, or set it for indoor/outdoor use?

Our macbook iSight seems to do this automatically - and as such we haven't had any issues outdoors. Though, it's never been REALLY bright outside for us anyway (being winter and all Wink)

Otherwise, your best bet might be to try the other webcam...

Try putting an empty frame film negative over the camera lens. It'll darken things up nicely and as an added bonus, it'll be able to see IR more clearly.

For anyone who's interested and online, we'll be broadcasting our training today live on seero again - from around 2:20pm NZ time. (1 hour 10 minutes after this post.)

We're thrilled to report that London's in for the Multiverse Olympics representing Europe - we now have 16 lined up for the finale, and will be racing in a very central London location on the night.

I'm currently working towards a 10.30pm on Sat 23/8 Greenwich Meantime slot which I believe coincides with the estimate for around 2.30PDT 23/8 and 0530 24/8 Beijing Time - does that sound about right, still?

On filming, I have a Mini DV I can arrange for someone to film us with (just as soon as I find the right person to bribe for this) and will upload to YouTube in line with James Mutters' instructions from my flat nearby - about 10mins walk - afterwards while we hold the follow-up party. I can set up a couple of webcam(s) at the flat if we want to get everyone connected on the continents afterwards/before, too.

Anything else we need to sort out in the meantime - apart from my setting up a Twitter account for London (tonight), that is?
Emilicon (...really ought to get around to registering on Unfiction)

Hello Emilicon! Great to hear that you've got a team of 16 all lined up to compete, and 10:30pm Certainly does sound correct - as per this handy dandy meeting planner.

We're looking forward to running simultaneously with you on the 23/24th! Very Happy

Hi Emilicon
If you *really* wanted to get a Thumos Runner on your team, you could move it to Penzance Wink

I'm pasting an email I, and the other team captains received today from Edwin Moses:

Edwin wrote:
Hello team captains,

Only a little more than a week until we compete for the gold!

We have new information to share with you regarding the timing of the
worlds championship on August 23/24.

As you know, we will all be competing at the same time: 5:30 AM in
Beijing Olympic Time on August 24, which corresponds with different
times in each of your time zones on August 23 and August 24.

We will hold the 3 Circuit finals first, followed by the 7 Circuit
Labyrinth Finals. Each final will have three races each; your best
time counts.

We must all run the race at the same time. You should twitter
@ariadnelost and use the tag #lostring to report your time immediately
after each heat.

Here are the local Beijing Olympic Times:

The 3-Circuit Event: race #1 05:30 AM, race #2 05:35 AM, race #3 05:40 AM.

The 7-Circuit Event: race #1 06:00 AM, race #2 06:05 AM, race #3 06:10 AM.

There is a short break between the 3 and the 7 circuit finals, but you
should draw both labyrinths before the races begin, or you may have
trouble catching your breath between finals!

Be sure to film each attempt separately so that you can submit just
your best time. You should submit at most 2 videos: a best 3 circuit
and a best 7 circuit.

Please write if you have any questions!

I will be in touch again soon before our championship event.

Your coach,

Edwin Moses
