 		No need for Mikey to get a message, all we needed to know was in the pic. The password was 032701, the time on the clock. It included two documents from the government, as well as another message to be decoded:

I wouldn't have thought about using the time on the clock to unlock the picture. The attachments are fine in e-mails. I'm trusting in those regards, to an extent.  		Well, I have bad news thus far and more bad news.

It isnt the same system. I cant solve it the same way. At first we thought a few simple ideas (entering the ciphertext backward, rotting the cleartext) with no joy. Then I noticed something. If you look at the third set of characters, you'll notice it begins

Now, assuming a method at least basically similar to the last, that would have the 9 falling on the second wheel. How ever on the actual device the 9 falls on the LAST wheel.

Perhaps we need to use the numbers we find across the ciphertext to determine where those wheels must be in sequence and THEN align as before?


Anyone know how to alter the virtual cipher wheels code to allow wheel repositioning? I'm not breaking the actual thing apart except as a very last resort.

EDIT: The Order of the numbers appears to be

maybe just need a spreadsheet and copy/paste the rows as needed. Don't destory the cypher wheel of doooooom. It is too precious.

Beyond that I don't know unless we stumble across another ten digit number somewhere. ah, you got it

 		GLOSS just confirmed the repositioning works. As I dont have to go to bed anytime soon (no work until 345pm est), I'm gonna stay up and push out the cleartext using excel.

This was fun. Real teamwork in the channel to figure this out!

[META]I did try 032701 just as soon as I saved the image the first time. It did not work. So now I've got 2 images. One that works with that password and one that doesn't. I pretty much went to the website (link now broken) right after it was posted, though. There seems to be some password issues with stegging. Something we might want to keep in mind for later.[/META]

 		Whew. Again with the long solve time. So, once we determined that we had to reorder the 'wheels' (in this case columns in my excel spreadsheet) it solved just like the previous message. Here is the decrypted message

So.. that's interesting. Not a lot more actual DETAILS like Mikey probably wanted. But the government involvement (North Dakota!) illustrated int he message and documents is.. disturbing. Are they responsible for the children disappearing? I'd like to know more about this previous mission of Amun's?

 		Looks like amun and his friends are the probably the ones who helped GC escape, which means that GC was probably in a government facility. So now we have to go up against the government? Vunderfuhl.

Wow. Okay, so I'm an idiot... I googled the names in the docs (bupkis, natch), looked up Rachel, NV 89001 on Google maps and scouted around looking for remains of Soopah!Sekrit govt installations, found something sort of weird/interesting looking north of town, made a Google map and got ready to post it, THEN looked up 1129th SAS and saw that it's all about Area 51. And then found Rachel, NV's website, and yes it is basically the gateway to Area 51. Bang Head Drool

So, just in case anyone's monitor doesn't show it, I will instead use this post to point out that the word blacked out in the body of both documents is "awlyn". I will also mention that this word always makes me want to push an imaginary stack of poker chips forward, for some reason. Cool

Hey... that might not be a bad name for this game: Awlyn Children. Surprised

Also, probly not important, but I noticed that in the memos, Bennett doesn't capitalize awlyn, but Amun does capitalize it in his letters.

Plus, now we know more about Bennett (the guy from way, way back in the pregame)! I was adding stuff to the wiki (er, quite a bit, actually, I got a little carried away Embarassed ... hope I'm not stepping on any toes) and there he was under Miscellaneous Characters - otherwise, I would never have remembered who he was.

Not a whole lot of information as we may have hoped; however, between the documents and the message here it seems clear that the US Government has been involved, and may still be involved, with these awlyn - experimenting on them? Detaining them? Unpleasant. Perhaps it has something to do with the current dissappearances? Not enough evidence to draw a conclusion, certainly.. but something to keep in mind. Where do we go from here though? I'd like to know more about this man Amun's organization rescued. Maybe Amun could organization a chance to speak with him in someway? Anyway, stay safe Mikey. I'm begining to think this could be dangerous.

I've been at work all day so I'm sorry I couldn't help encode the message. Glad it got done though. Stupid job keeping me from the ARG. I work tomorrow too (noon till whenever I'm cut. Probably like 8pm then another hour to do my side work/roll silver) but I'm off Wendsday and Thursday
