Details on Toria's disappearance and China

[22:56] Eli Hunt: Additionally, I am not so confident about our current approach to the 5 + 1 question.

[22:56] [M.]: Do elaborate if you please ?

[22:59] [M.]: I'll relay a question from mademoiselle Hall to you after this.

[22:59] Eli Hunt: I'm a historian, and when we write our histories, we try to tell the story that doesn't leave anything crucial unaccounted for.

[22:59] Eli Hunt: The fact that Toria was able to travel without a complete omphalos network... our theories do not yet account for this.

[23:00] [M.]: It is quite perplexing, indeed. Maybe you could share with us the particulars of what led up to Toria's departure ?

[23:01] [M.]: Until that minute which I reckon you forgot ?

[23:01] Eli Hunt: To be honest, it's quite embarrassing how little we knew at the time, compared to this year.

[23:03] Eli Hunt: We created a 7-circuit labyrinth at the site of the temple, and we had Toria walk it again and again and again...

[23:03] [M.]: Take your time, monsieur. very little detail might count - after all, it's where th devil is.

[23:04] Eli Hunt: It was a personal labyrinth, not the lost sport itself.

[23:04] Eli Hunt: I did not have all of the rules for the sport then.

[23:04] [M.]: How long did she walk this labyrinth ?

[23:04] Eli Hunt: Nor did I know of an 11 circuit labyrinth.

[23:05] Eli Hunt: I do not know the exact number, because it was during her labyrinth that we blacked out. It must have been dozens of times.

[23:05] Eli Hunt: When we came to, we had fallen to the ground and no one had seen what had happened.

[23:05] [M.]: And I take she was gone ?

[23:06] Eli Hunt: Yes, exactly. No trace, no destruction of anything where she had been. It was not as if the labyrinth pattern were suddenly in flames, for instance.

[23:07] [M.]: As if things were not strange enough as thy are, hm ?

[23:07] [M.]: You said "we" blacked out. Would you share who else was there ?

[23:08] Eli Hunt: Yes, it was just myself and the other allies of 2004. You know several of them already. I have respected the privacy of the remaining 3.

[23:08] * [M.] nods

[23:08] Eli Hunt: Rest assured I do not hear from them.

[23:09] [M.]: Quite right, then.

[23:09] [M.]: I'll share all this with our friends, and we'll get back to you with theories a per usual.

[23:11] [M.]: Ah, and let's not forget mademoiselle Hall's question. She'd like to know when you,and Alex will be off to Beijing, and whether you'll be able to keep in touch or not.

[23:13] Eli Hunt: The allies are leaving on different days, I believe they all arrive in Beijing by Tuesday. We do intend to keep in touch. I know that all of the allies plan to blog daily and post videos daily as much as possible to keep us updated on their efforts and involved in helping them.

[23:13] [M.]: Très bien.

[23:14] Eli Hunt: It was a pleasure to speak with you.

[23:14] Eli Hunt: Thank you for taking the time to consider this problem, I
look forward to and advisement you and your allies can offer.

If it weren't for the fact that James saw Toria during his personal labyrinth, and she seemed to confirm that she had successfully traveled back to her world, I might be inclined to suspect some skulduggery...

 		There is going to be a webcam going on Beijing's activities, yes? Although honestly I kinda suspect that if it is something that knocks people out, it would also be the kind of thing that would fog up/create static on a webcam, like all those attempts you see at people trying to videotape ghosts or UFOs they claim they saw.

 		Reading more back through the Codex, I now think that Toria didn't travel between worlds. Rather, I think that she created such a close athletic synchronization that she merged two worlds, including one in which she never made the decision to travel to this world. Therefore, she ended up disappearing.

Chapter 16:

Quote:
In this moment of athletic co-ordination, the parallel selves across very different worlds would be in precisely the same place. And suppose, that you close your eyes and that be sufficiently conscious about small pulls, small strengths (forces) which you could feel where your body and mind were coordinated, across universes, with the most points of relation (correlation)! And let us suppose that with tiny moves, you could coordinate yourself with other yous.

Two things would happen.

One is, that your body would be a bridge, powerfully directing strengths (forces) out of one world to another, changing the topology of the multiverse, seaming universes there.

The other is – if you were extremely precise about the place of your body, position and moves, your mind would experience a miniature version of the natural synchronisation of the worlds, co-ordinating with another copy of you yourself. Memories, thoughts, ideas could jump across the crack, so that your mind would travel from one you to the other.

During that moment of physical co-ordination, your own brain would act how the omphaloi communicates across the many worlds, while creating a navel (umbilicus) which draws together the worlds.

You would open your eyes and suddenly there would be at least one less world in the multiverse –but without any kind of destruction, without any kind of change. Through take care of an (Through this carefully) orchestrated merger, smaller, more secure number of simultaneous worlds co-exist. Reality would remain inside from its upper limit – at least for now.

 		Hmm... actually, something like that is what I suggested in the 5+1 topic, that maybe the +1 (the one we suppose came from a gaea world), doesn't travel because he synchronizes this world he is in with his original world, merging them. That way, there would be less worlds, and both the runner would travel to another world, and remain here at the same time... because his destiny world would be merged with our own world.

I like this idea because it is more of a "happy" ending than having one traveler destined to get stuck here without an identity forever. The idea that one has to sacrifice the chance to go home/ regain identity and family in order to allow the others to leave is just too TheO sounding to me. But maybe that's the point- we've had to buy in to their ideas and play the game in their court, because there has to be this willingness to sacrifice in the end.
