So it doesn't really sound like there's going be an ARG... especially if you're not in DC... right?

I hope its more of the kick off rather than a simple viral for an event.

Me too! Now that I gave them my eye and everything! And it was my good one....

Well hopefully there will be more. The countdown does end on the 8th of September. So maybe they will do something before the event at the museum?

Interesting that the event tells you to bring your cellphones.

I won't be there...too far...but I also wonder if there would be an online aspect to it as well?

Well I'm planning on going, so long as I can insure I get the day off. So if nothing else, and I can get a decent net access there, I'll try and keep people posted on what's going on. But we still have time and there is that Sept 8th count down.

It is about a 3 hour drive in normal traffic.... I might make the trek if i can convince someone else to drive AND can get the day off work...

[Slightly off-topic]

A friend of mine is a letterboxing enthusiast who's taken me on a couple of searches with her. Inside every box is a notebook or paper of some sort in which you put a personalized rubber stamp to show you found it. A few years ago, there was a special box hidden for a limited time in the Smithsonian castle. The stamping paper was in the form of a scroll, which was later the centerpiece of a museum display (it was a Smithsonian magazine article which brought letterboxing here from the UK). Based on that experience, it would not be unprecedented for the eye images to become an art display piece as you suggest Kona.

Thanks for the heads up on this, Tres!
Oooo I hope I hope I hope I hope this is a game! I might actually be useful for once! My PhD is in Dramatic History and Literature and one of my specializations is Shakespeare. I played Byzantine when it came out in 97 and it remains one of my favorite games! I'm so excited!!!
Woo hoo my eye is in there! [/img]

I would think though, given that it is pictures of people, that consent would be needed to use this for more than a webgame {which we are at the very least led to believe it is} - wouldn't they?

I mean, the crayola factory had a huge section where you could draw on the wall and it would be on display for a while - they didn't have to get permission for that... In disney, before you go to the {soon to be defunct} Pleasure Island they have to at least display a sign stating that by being there they have the right to use your images in photo or video form for whatever they choose pretty much {consent implied by you being there then}.

Not that I know anything about laws, I would just hate for people to get hopes up.... hope i'm wrong though.

I'm not sure of the exact laws myself, but I do recall that any contest I've ever entered in which there was a 'submission' of something I created, whether it was writing or a photo or anything, there was usually something stating that by just sending it in, you pretty much gave up all your rights to your creation. They could publish it, do whatever they liked with it. So perhaps there is indeed some clause in the law that says if you send an image in, no written consent would be needed, since you voluntarily sent the image.

Here's a very good primer on the subject of photo releases: http://www.danheller.com/model-release.html#4 Only a couple of the eye images (the two boys and one other that's nearly 1/2 of a face) are recognizable, so I think all the others are all right for museum use. Also, I think the fact that we voluntarily submitted our images shows permission, so long as the images are not used for commercial purposes.

On the other hand, the photos I took at ARGFest of our illustrated bodybuilder are mine. For the Smithsonian magazine to use 1 of them in their October issue (and online) they sought my permission (and a hi res version of the photo they saw on my flickr). Of course I gave it to them and then they told me I would even get paid for it at their standard rate!
Woot!!!!
Link to follow when it's online.

Hey! Just found something new on the page! My first time discovering a clue!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
On the first eye, when I hover over it, it showed a link to a mp3 file. :

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
When you click it, you get this message
"In my time, there was only a few of us with any greatness. There was myself and John Wilkes Booth, of course he didn't come to a good end, but well, you know, every career has its low moments. Don't know if I was ever that political. I mean I never knew Lincoln; I heard him--we played Springfield. Of course, our great success was in Washington, DC, but that was before Lincoln. I would have given him a livelier evening. John was such a sourpuss."

So, are we dealing with a male ghost here?
