Is this making sense?
Dav, it is, thank you for elucidating - that's exactly what I meant as well!
A videotape would be most helpfull, and so would any suggestions how to set the steps so they can be counted without problem and leave the dancer on the path, yet appear artistic and beautiful enough to deserve the name "dancing steps".
Edit: Added file summarizing my thoughts.

OK. It took me a while to find a nice freeware sheet music program I could handle. I'm not finished with the music yet, and since I am not a natural at inventing melodies (and the melody should be easy to remember and not too artistic), the whole thing sounds pretty rotten. But it's a beginning.
UPDATED:
Here's the final version of Ariadne's Dance Song.
The audio version will follow in a few minutes. Since I didn't managed to export the audio file, I'll simply film my notebook playing the song - before that, however, I must recharge my camera's batteries ...

Comment from Eli:
Quote:
I wonder if it is possible to ask another ally, perhaps a sofial or
mythopoeia with musical skills, to play the melody you have prepared
for us, and upload a video? Or perhaps, to sing it and upload a video?
Or an MP3 track that our allies could listen to in preparation?
Anyone who could do this? I'll try to get my sheet music program to spit out a wav file, but an mp3 or even a video would be far better, of course. It's about 4min30sec.
EDIT
I filmed the program playing the song off my screen and uploaded it to YouTube in two separate bits (tagged LOSTRING, as usual). However, the quality is really horrible, and our athletes deserve something better for their preparations. I haven't got the technical equipment for this. I cannot film myself singing the song (cannot film myself AND concentrate on the computer screen, there's no one else available to film me, and I don't possess a printer so I could print out the music, walk out on the street and ask someone else to film me singing it). Please come up with a better presentation ... This is only a poor placeholder.

Yeah I was going to do it but didn't have time today (damn summer homework )
I may also alter the melody. You didn't sound like you liked it much, so if I have any input I'll be sure to give it. I'll take a look at it tomorrow.

That's great Dav - a job for a real Mythopoeia!
Here are the YouTube links:

The more I listen to it, the more I actually like it. It really makes itself remembered. Saves itself to my mental harddisc. Some breaks might sound too long - I wrote them like this because I wanted to separate the different units clearly enough ... You're welcome to change it, as long as the musical syntax (directions) remains unaltered and our athletes get the information they need from it.

Pity we can't form a transcontinental FTLR orchestra & choir to tape it collectively ... Dav, if you mark the turns/corners with claps or knocks, you could shorten the breaks considerably - maybe even avoid those strange 6/8 triple bars ...

Bluegh I hate summer homework.
And... I'm trying to get to my in.solit.us account but it's being slow... which means I can't upload the recording of me and the Ariadne's Dance song, sung slow enough to enable running along (though even that's fast )...
AND THERE WE GO. Once again I.S.U comes through and we have ourselves one genuine Ariadne's Dance!
EDIT: Oh hey, looks like you can upload mp3s to UF. Go figure. See attachment. ISU will be sent to the characters, since they can't use UF

You have a beautiful singing voice. Thank you so much for recording and uploading this! I hope it wasn't to deep ... I'm a second alto, and I guess that's easy to see from the sheet music. That's what you get when you start lilting around and simply try to "catch" the different notes. Although I must admit that my main idea was to set it in C major so it was easy to play ...

We are practicing for our 11-circuit labyrinth dance. (Thank you Canzonett and Dav for helping us to figure this ancient dance out!)

Hahaha well played. But I had one trick up my sleeve--I transposed it up
