Ok I'm in! - I've looked up this post and both overviews... Haven't really had time to check all the (Semi-OOG) WIKI information but have checked the FB profile and sites.

Is it completely necessary to read through the (relevant) WIKI pages and such, to get on with this or not?

And sorry, the past page has confused me. Did deciphering that code lead to the IP based website or is that pure spec'?

Thanks Very Happy

No, the IP is on the top of the code. We tried to see where it led, but to no avail. The code has yet to be solved. Other than that, the wiki pages simply give a sort of background to the story at hand.

Well, we're meant to be finding another key for the Blowfish. Only problem is, as far as I can tell, we really don't have many clues regarding it. For all we know, we don't have enough information to find the key yet. Blowfish being blowfish, we can't solve it until we have the exact key (including capitalisation). We've made all the obvious random guesses, and on my part, I think any further attempts until we get further information (in 3 days time?) is just wasting time. At least with Vignere it can be bruteforced...

I don't think I've mentioned my hatred of Blowfish yet Very Happy

The Overview III
Continued from The Overview II on page 7

What we have so far...

Behind The Yellow Curtain website
Behind The Yellow Curtain facebook profile (ours: b-tycSPLAThotmail.com, password15)
Our contact person: Eleanora Plante (E.P.) at eleanora.planteSPLATgmail.com

Futhark/Polycystin Website: solution to the first clue:

We had the website, the counter, the idea that the background story is related to R'lyeh and other H.P. Lovecraft themes, and of course: we had more than one question: whether or not E.P. was alright after meeting Anashel, where he was, what happened to Mike and Adam, and how Polycystin related to R'lyeh and all other 'lost world' speculation.

In order to receive answers Anashel was contacted by the way of his YouTube account where we had first discovered The Walkthrough to Episode One.
The following reply was given:

Hi Gregoryn!

Don't worry for Eleanora. She is an extremely intelligent and resilient person. You will have the chance to meet her soon to see by yourself.

Sadly, for Mike it's another story.

You are a pretty cleaver group, it was quite a pleasure to see experimented player on this trail. There will be no way to solve the next set of puzzle until the countdown is completed.

I was delighted to see how well you completed this little appetizer and how good you were at gathering ... almost ... all clue and background information available.

Even if you have been beaten by some other player this time , I am sure you will manage to do good when the real fun beginning.

Mes sincères salutation,
- Anashel

The message came with the following attachment that is the description to the following video: Metallica - The Call Of Ktulu (Studio Version)

We now knew that we were on the right track, that we had gathered nearly all puzzle pieces, and that R'lyeh and Lovecraft were definite. Nevertheless of course some questions still remained: where E.P. was now we could conclude she was still alive and how exactly we would 'meet' her, what had happened to Mike, and why Adam was never mentioned.

The attached video also led to some interesting finds:
Jain wrote:
I was reading a plot summary of The Call of Cthulhu and I noticed that in the third section "The Madness from the Sea" there is mention of both Sydney, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand.

Also, I have never read this story before so forgive me if this is obvious to everyone else but I am guessing that this artifact that Adam was studying may be a statue of Cthulhu.

The Wikipedia article led to even more comparisons with the information we had gathered beforehand:

Quote:
Wikipedia wrote: The article went on to say that the survivors encountered an island the next day, in the vicinity of 47° 9' S, 126° 43' W, even though there are no charted islands in that area.

Seems to be in the 'neighbourhood':
LAT| -49.850000 - LONG| -128.566667

Nevertheless, there was still only two certainties: the counter, and that the game was still on by the way of a facebook update:

BTYC-Facebook wrote:
Only 7 days left before the countdowns end!!! For those of you who haven't completed phase 1, there is still some time left.

It is also a great opportunity to tell friends and co-worker about the ongoing Episode 2! Bring them to the game and help them solved the first puzzle! The more you have help, the easier you will manage to complete part 2!

When first discovering polycystin.com there was a counter that was counting down towards 08/17/2008 9:00 PM EST: the date and time the second clue will be released. While this date was first retrieved from a source-code:

Quote:
http://www.polycystin.com/02-welcome.php
TargetDate = "08/17/2008 9:00 PM";

It was also released August 12th on the main site:
Quote:

pty: 256 Unix03 ptys configured
TCP: Hash tables configured

Calibrating delay loop.
Application Server Started.

An update that brought us one step closer to the second clue:

Zephonith wrote:

Another Blowfish code.
At least it brings us one step closer to the Adam E.P. had mentioned:
The Overview II wrote:
Adam: E.P.'s tutor who possesses the key for the 'coded message'. He received an artifact from New Zeeland and was working on this before 'everything went downward'. Based on E.P.'s description Adam is likely a (bio)anthropologist or archeologist. His current location is unknown.

Therefore it is not unlikely that the 7-digit password is 'Futhark'.

However, without the release of the second clue the coded message cannot be solved. The mentioned IP adres 74.208.29.147 doesn't seem to lead to much more than http://74.208.29.147/ and pointing towards unrelated sites in a google search.

Today is August 17th, and we're ready for the continuation of Behind The Yellow Curtain. Let's see if we can find R'lyeh.

Sorry if this is very noob of me to ask, I know little to none of Cryptography. But has anyone tried to brute-force search the key for the blowfish encryption?

Not a n00bish question at all really lol.

But, I've tried pretty much every 'relevant' word possible pertaining to the ARG itself as a key for the Blowfish tool as I'm sure other people have and I just cannot for the life of me figure it out.

2hrs til the site opens though.

Close to an hour left. =) This kind of reminds me of Project Abraham. We will post on the myresistence.net boards with "omg 47.5 minutes left till the next update" only to get more information spoon fed to you. Not that I dont like the info. =)

W00t! I made a video overview for those too lazy to read drejl's.

Video walkthrough

DISCLAIMER: I never said I sound good. I know I sound like a 10 year munching on watermelon while drowning. I also go off on tangents. As well, I apologize for overusing..."um". lol

also, it's better if you view full screen =P

Also, for some reason when I said that drejl's thing is thorough, it seems to come out as an insult. I don't mean it as an insult, I'm just retarded. lol
