I'll field this one. He mentions 'retired' as well. So he, meaning his old self, died. Like being put in witness protection. You cease to exist, and become Cletus J. Buttwrangler, sewage treatment plant worker in Nowhere, Arkansas. But in this case, he became John Smith, retiree, so to speak. He worked for the agency, retired, so they retired his old identity so it'd be harder to track him and whatnot. Bunch of alphabet soup bull.

Well it seems like the person knows german atleast.
Also is it me or does Orville (that's the new name for him right?) seem to talk in circles?

He knows german because he wrote mein gott? I'm Jewish and I know what mein gott is =P In fact, I say it occasionally as a piece of ironic humor.

Absolutely. That's part of why I was so annoying, I think, because I kept trying to pin him down and at least get fair exchange of information.
So we've got Bugman and Orville, both part of some organization that bred people with the DNA of great soldiers. Orville has no idea about the sociopaths. He also claims that Bugman probably won't talk to me again (which I have to admit kind of irritates me; what was I supposed to do, stay up all freakin' night so he could tell me his long-winded, albeit interesting, story? No can do, got things to do IRL...). Bugman was accompanying Zach, and now they've both disappeared/are in hiding.
And we're supposed to find out what's going on. *headdesk*
Also, as far as the code, I think it's that number letter in the line. But what edition? And why were certain lines skipped?

I can't really tell what that means, but what about that first line "none of one". That doesn't sound like a number, it sounds like a quantity. And what does it decode?
EDIT: Observations and Questions:
The article mentions a team (As well as the now obvious bugman) does this mean there's more than one person here?
What the heck does "metaphorically dead" mean?
Does the song have any signifigance ?
Is the eagle really threatened? (or real period)
Sorry Its just things that occured to me, but I didn't have the chance to write it all out.
No idea about the song, other than it's STUCK IN MY HEAD. I assume there's more than one person, but not necessarily more than these people involved in this particular situation. Don't know about the eagle, but you could always Google it.

And what confuses me is why he cares. he's supposed to be retired, enjoying the good life.

LOL well I was more meaning cuz he spelled it right.
But I agree, I wonder why he cares why things are going on if he's retired. Maybe next time you talk to him ask
Oh and as to the song, I've searched high and low for the lyrics but cant find them any where... but I do like the guys name :>

Exactly. I guess because he and Bugman grew up together? Dunno.
I have a feeling that what Bugman did for the science fair had to do with genetics and breeding. Not that that makes a big difference, just an idle thought.

Maybe he created a mutant form of his Vespa bugs?

Possibly.
I wish we had more to go on with the cypher. Which version of the Tell-tale heart?.... hold on. I was assuming lines, but if it was paragraphs, the version wouldn't matter. Off to check this out!

What I'm curious about is the "none of 1" parts. Because those wont really work with the paragraph/word/page thing.

Yeah, it would. None of the letters of the first whatever.
But there's only 10 paragraphs. Still thinking...

Ok so we're trying to figure out what this is. Maybe it's pointing to one word? For example something that's missing in the first sentance but is the 7th word of the second and 12th of the third?
It dosn't work with the tell-tale heart like that, but just trying to think of what it could be.

Want to verify something as I had an idea.
Bugman was the one who sent the song right? Or was that Zack?
