*If* something does happen at these locations, it makes the most sense to me, given our in-game knowledge and the logisitcs of the whole thing, that it would be a transmission via payphone. Now the fact that there are more than one point in each city makes me assume that each transmission will be different. However, this would mean that the PMs expect us to gather 210 pieces pieces of this puzzle, which is a pretty huge task, even for a community this size.

My brain hurts.

Damn you and your dancing robots!!!

(Heh... j/k... and no offense intended, Andy)

The "serial"-ness of the times/points that sfsdfd refers to could be explained in "in-game" terms as something (or some entity, i.e. The Operator) being transmitted through these points at these times, like she's travelling down a road. (At least, that's one possible interpretation.) How does that reconcile with people being at these places at these specific times? What do we expect to see if, in-game, all that's happening is that data is being moved?

OK - lemme ask this then.

Is there any IG reason to assume something physical would occur at these locations?

Ugh... unfortunately the only reason I could imagine something physically happening at these sites would not really be "in game" as opposed to "end game" i.e. a bunch of guys in bee costumes handing out halo t-shirts and patting us on the back "good game". I seriously hope this marks the BEGINNING of the game as opposed to the end.

So if the game is just beginning I can't really see anything physical happening that would make sense with the plot... unless... melissa says she is building a new body... maybe... she is piecing together some makeshift robots... who will all emerge... and reveal melissa's ultimate goal: to GET DOWN!!!

Well I originally wanted to dismiss this puzzle as something trivial. but the PMs have given us what 3 major updates that touch on it now?

It just seems to be a jump to conclusion that a GPS location automatically means something will be/happen/explode there. Especially when they have a tendency to appear in the middle of the ocean.

I'm not saying going to these sites wouldn't be beneficial - but I think assuming that the PMs make a major update a week before a major IG event is merely an invitation to a dance dance party is premature.

Especially since after this update we can't be sure all these coordinates won't change this, say, Thursday and there will only be 50 of them.

And maybe by next week there may only be like 5 of them.

How come I knew... just KNEW, that after Grout mentioned robots getting down that Andy would be next to post? Laughing

Also, I know that the discussion of the Princesses identity has been questioned before today... I'm not THAT much of an idiot (although I do not claim idiot-free status)... I just wondered if anyone had directly asked via email... (and no, I can't check the Wiki Crying or Very sad) So I'm going to bury this part of this now... I'm sorry and that's what I get for going off topic...

Sorry DM, I was referring specifically to the discussion about the literal names of The Sleeping Princess and The Pious Flea, not their identities in general... no implication of idiocy intended.

I'm guessing that most of these will map to a specific location. I'm also predicting that those locations will include a pay phone. It's the only kind of event that could realistically happen at specific times at locations across America. The alternative involves stationing a Microsoft employee at evey location, which just seems unlikely - and error-prone.

I think there were quite some locations that were checked out and proved not to be near a pay phone, but I just thought of another thing that could be done "almost simultaneously" (i.e. with several intervals, which is just what we were given), and that would be planes flying over and tossing stuff out Very Happy

I don't think that that would be very relevant to the story though, nor practical, nor realistic, so I really do hope it'll be payphones after all... that would be the coolest imho (oh well, except for dancing robots Very Happy ).

Giskard! Are you kidding?!? It would be SOOOO much cooler if planes dropped stuff!!! Although I guarantee you that they would be perceived as terrorist threats well before the 12 hours was up, and they'd be shot down... so it's totally NOT that, but its still a MUCH COOLER idea... Good on you for thinking of it! (Really, how cool would that be?!?)

Wow, that'd be a lot of planes... although, if there IS a single plane that can make it from DC to New England by way of Cleveland in 8 minutes, I'd be first in line at my nearest coordinate to see it! Smile

Which lends credence to the possibility I mentioned, where all they need to do is hire a courier with a guaranteed time of "showing up", a la "Se7en". (although I still think payphones will end up being the key)

Edit - Andy, you are THE MAN! Laughing

correlations

I looked up the 4 locations in my area (Charlotte, NC) one is downtown, one is at a University, one is in the "badlands" and one is in the arts district.

Also, Microsoft has an operations center in Charlotte, so there are employees available to populate these 4 locations.

You're not dropping anything from a small plane over Chicago. Guarantee it.

LOL!!!

Ahem... composing myself so my co-workers don't think I'm insane...

Ok, I believe someone posted earlier that they were trying to connect the dots in chronological order to see if there was some visual sense to be made out of all of this mess.

I also think we should also pay some sort of special attention to the endpoints of the "road segments" that have less than 4 minutes between them... is there any potential "in game" signficance to those?
