are there any payphones left that even can take incoming calls?
i know most urban areas in california have incoming calls disabled.

Which lends credence to the possibility I mentioned, where all they need to do is hire a courier with a guaranteed time of "showing up", a la "Se7en". (although I still think payphones will end up being the key)

Edit - Andy, you are THE MAN! Laughing

Couriers wouldn't really make sense in-game though, would it?

*If* something does happen at these locations, it makes the most sense to me, given our in-game knowledge and the logisitcs of the whole thing, that it would be a transmission via payphone. Now the fact that there are more than one point in each city makes me assume that each transmission will be different. However, this would mean that the PMs expect us to gather 210 pieces pieces of this puzzle, which is a pretty huge task, even for a community this size.

My brain hurts.

since Dana has referenced WiFi spots, I still refuse to give that theory up.

makes more sense to me (pending final GPS locations) than payphones.

way more sense
also, i believe that whatever the transmissions are, when the AGH, all of the pertinent info disseminated will be posted to ILB soon thereafter, or possibly on Dana's blog

Andy, you're right... I just want it to be couriers so badly! Mr. Green I know it's not an appropriate in-game solution, but it would be so cool...

Wow, that'd be a lot of planes... although, if there IS a single plane that can make it from DC to New England by way of Cleveland in 8 minutes, I'd be first in line at my nearest coordinate to see it! Smile

You're not dropping anything from a small plane over Chicago. Guarantee it.

Especially not at MACH 7.3, which is the speed you'd need to be travelling to get from Washington, D.C. to Cleveland in 4 minutes. Smile

I think that these population concentrations are much more in line with what I would expect for interaction. However, I don't think that the PMs could be that far out in the woods with the other numbers. I think that we may have missed something that we were supposed to do with the other numbers to transform them into usable data.

But let me just say: w00t. Wink

The problem with wi-fi vs payphones is that payphones are far more accessible. Not everyone has a laptop (I don't), but most everyone can answer a phone.

I'm still not 100% convinced that anything will happen.

09:07:00 Tue Aug 24 2004 in US/Eastern

DST* is in effect on this date/time in US/Pacific

The first event happens at 6:07 PDT, then 4 minutes later the second event happens...so:
The first 44 events (22 rows) have a 4 minute delay.
The next 120 events (60 rows) have a 3 minute delay.
The last 46 events (23 rows) have a 4 minute delay.
The last event starts at 18:03 PDT and presumably ends at 18:07 (6:07pm) to give a complete 12-hour cycle.

The last 4-minute gap of the first set is between 37.868933 -122.257150
08:55 PDT and 37.787249 -122.408630
08:59 PDT.
The first 3-minute gap is between 37.787249 -122.408630
08:59 PDT and 37.429111 -122.141966
09:02 PDT.
The last 3-minute gap is between 41.941080 -087.939411
14:56 PDT and 41.947079 -087.653555
14:59 PDT.
The first 4-minute gap of the second set is between 41.947079 -087.653555
14:59 PDT and 39.346129 -091.204489
15:03 PDT.

I think that the difference between the 4 and 3 minute gaps is just so it adds up to 220 events...but why isn't there just 180 4-minute or 240 3-minute events? 220 must be somewhat important.

Also, it doesn't make any sense why the other coordinates were even posted if they didn't have some meaning. Unless the plans changed (in-game or otherwise) it must be an important piece of the puzzle.

So what has changed?

I've heard:

1) addition of times
2) more precise coordinates
3) Sears Tower location missing/moved
4) Texas is now represented
5) There's another water location
6) HTML Formatting changed

anything else?

The Glendale location is also gone. Crying or Very sad Guess I'll have to schlep all the way over to Burbank next Tuesday if I want to see what happens.

Might be possible to lookup some payphones around the country.

Also, payphones and wi-fi are not mutually exlusive in some places now.

Agreed. If there's no way for the average player to receive a voice/data transmission in these places, then what do we expect to see? Any sort of physical interaction short of Melissa herself in her newly "wide awake and physical" body makes absolutely no in-game sense.

Actors/Microsofties don't fit in with the plot and don't seem to have any way to advance it.

Of course, we could get more info at any time that invalidates this pessimism, but as of right now, I don't see anything to suggest camping out at my nearest coordinate point would be a good idea.

Volunteering

While I'm waiting for my registration of a few hours ago to get here...

(Hi, first time poster, lurker since MetaCoretechs)

My fiancée and I volunteering to visit the Garland, TX location. While I've been the one following the ilb saga, she was the first one to clue me into the whole ARG phenomea, when she'd signed up for this paid arg game published by... wither Seirra or EA or Some Giant Game Company.

I'll report back when we're done. Smile

Again, if you're going to check out a place on the 24th and report, please "sign up" for that place here.

Not trying to drum up business for that thread, just sayin that it's there, so why not use it! This way we all stay coherent, and you don't have to look in fifteen threads to see if someone's going to be where you're planning on going! Thanks!

And I know that Shawn already did this (he just can't edit since he's not a a member yet!), I'm just re-iterating so all y'all new to this topic see this! thanks!

EDIT - COFFEEJEDI!!! ScarpeGrosse and I were recently musing that we missed you and your haX0rZ speak...
