If you open your ID Card in a pdf and click 'save as text'

The file saves like this

845 0468 5339
845 0468 5339
845 0468 5339
845 0468 5339
*

Except what I just pasted above varies in one way:

Where I placed an asterisk* is actually an ankh like this
http://www.dmjsouthafrica.com/images/ankh_h1.gif

I dont think the font supported that image

I don't know if this is relevant but it happened so I posted it, now back to seeing if the barcode is relevant. . .

Big surprise:

If you scan the barcode above your ID number, it says your ID number

Tah-Dah!

Smile That was a waste of 5 minutes

I found a code site a while back that allowed you to download a barcode reader, I'm going to try to find it again and read the barcode from the ID card, I'll let you know how it goes.

Really? Cool. What site is it?

I couldn't find the original site that I was referencing but I did find another site with a barcode reader.

Softek Barcode Toolkit

That's the software I used, if you google it you'll find sites where you can download a 30 day trial. I liked it because it allowed you to open any image file and it locates a barcode in the image and reads it. Also, there's like 25 different types of codes it can read so it worked perfectly.

Thanks, that's pretty cool. Shame it's so expensive to own the license though, it'd be a nice tool to have. Confused

Screw that. Take it to your local 7-11 and ask the clerk to scan it for grins and giggles......

Or stop into any Toys-R-Us and scan it yourself.

And get that incredulous stare and the single raised eyebrow that says "You do know you're a total nutcase, right?" Heh, I'm not *that* brave! Laughing

If I had a printer I'd do it. I live on the other side of a large brick wall from Toys-R-Us. I'd even use my cell phone to video the process. But I don't have a printer, so that won't happen. Heh.

In lieu of that, I ran my ID number through this site: http://www.chienworks.com/barcode and guess what? That isn't what my barcode looks like....not in the least.

EDIT: Here's another site....once again, the result of entering my numbers doesn't look like my barcode......http://www.milk.com/barcode/

Code 128C

It's a specific (but widely used) barcode format... any old online barcode generator might not give you the same result, unless you can configure the symbology and such. "Code 128C" is used on the ID cards:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_128

Probably a coincidence, but my "check digit" is 42. Very Happy

EDIT: Found a good chart - http://www.denso-id.cn/download/blog/code128.jpg

Meh, it is now 8:20 over here in EST, and no update.

Maybe they are doing it by Hawaii time?

Ok so that's a stretch.

Hehe, that would be funny wouldn't it? I figure they are doing this by PDT, as EDT has already passed, as Gregory already stated. So, just a couple more hours for our friends on the west coast to catch up with us, and we will be good to go! Wink

EDITED to get my time zones straight. Rolling Eyes

Is there a difference between EST and EDT?
