SPOILER - After the Planetary Clicky Maze

The clicky maze leads you to the page:

http://www.mythosphere.org/no12sp14cdfm76p1x2y.html

This page shows all the pictures that are cycled at the beginning of mythosphere and a cipher.

Substition cipher translates to:

MYTHOSPHERE
THE MEANING BEHIND THE MYTH
GIVE US THE WAY TO CONTACT YOU
"GUIDES"

And it's looking like the guides are the pictures on the page.

More to come from the next person to crack where to go with it... =)

The trees shaped like people (women?) could be dryads.

Quote:
In Greek mythology, the dryads are female spirits of nature (nymphs), who preside over the groves and forests. Each one is born with a certain tree over which she watches. A dryad either lives in a tree, in which case she is called a hamadryad, or close to it. The lives of the dryads are connected with that of the trees; should the tree perish, then she dies with it. If this is caused by a mortal, the gods will punish him for that deed. The dryads themselves will also punish any thoughtless mortal who would somehow injure the trees.

Yeah, that was my most likely explanation last night. However, it didn't seem to do much. (*edit* sent too guidesSPLATmythosphere.org)

Interestingly enough, I also sent an email to dryadsSPLATmythosphere.org. I didn't get a response, but it didn't bounce.

Mail to lamassuSPLATmythosphere.org does bouce, however, as does mail to unicornSPLATmythosphere.org and unicornsSPLATmythosphere.org.

What's special about dryads?

I wonder the same thing Smile

Maybe they want something more specific then unicorn...but I don't see lamassu being wrong.

Someone else send a message to the dryads email address, maybe my free mail just dropped the bounce.

AnthraX101

-edit- Well, I take that back. I resent the message, and got a bounce. I don't think it went through the first time.

Spec: SSN number?

Have we found any need for SSN numbers in the game anywhere?

I was screwing around with the order of the planets that unlocks this portion. If you put the 'clicks' in order in relation to distance from the sun, you get:

If Sun is 0: 035712864
If Sun is 1: 146823975

Trying to think of what is 9 digits, I thought of SSNs. It just so happens that 146-82-3975 has the proper geographic region code for the state of New Jersey. In real life, they haven't issued any of the 146 series with a middle group higher than 11, but this is a game after all.

Actualy, because 11 is odd, I think they issued the even SSNs between 10 and 98 already, so that could be a valid SSN. They assign the even high numbers before the odd high numbers.

My SSN location lists 11 as the high group, and my group is even and higher then 11. Smile

AnthraX101

-edit- Ok, did some digging. If they issue all the group numbers sequentialy, that would probably be someone born in the mid to late 80's. It is also not registered with the SSDI, so it is likely a real person still alive. Probably OOG. The 035 one is out of the range of issued ones though, so that may very well be in game.

-edit again- That SSN block was assigned in 1987.

Thanks for the info. It's probably nothing then. I just got a bit excited when I saw that the 146-numbers were in New Jersey.

naming the guides

in #ctw we've spent some time trying to give the Guides more personified names. here are some possibilities:

lamassu = Shedu
unicorn = Kilin
phoenix = Bennu, Thunderbird, Feng-huang

the dryads are a bit problematic, since there were many dryads in mythology, and even the image we're given shows three of them.

i don't know if this will lead anywhere, but i figured i'd post the idea and let the collective consciousness work on it.

The three sisters who live at the base of the tree Yggrasil are also called Norns. Their names are Urd, (fate), Verdandi,(necessity), and Skuld, (being). They try to keep the tree alive by watering it with the water from the Well of Fate.
You can see the shapes of women? in the trees.

Here's the link I found

If you take a look at the picture located on this page: http://webhome.idirect.com/~donlong/monsters/Html/Shedu.htm and compare it to the winged-bull on mythosphere, you'll see a striking resemblance. On the same site it shows Lamassu as having a lion's body and not a bull's. So I think it's got to be Shedu.

As for the other three -- anyone find anything concrete? I kind of like the idea of the trees being Lesidhe (http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/4611/fairyL.html#Lesidhe) due to them disguising themselves as foliage, travelling in groups, and being most active during dawn and dusk (note the picture is at sunset - might be a coincidence)

The unicorn? No good leads - the unicorn does have two tails and to me it seems the hind legs are not horse legs (not the hair) and remind me of satyr(goat) legs for some reason... so it could possibly even be bipedal

The bird? Who knows, the design behind the bird is celtic but I haven't heard any good explanations about what it is exactly.

Once we actually decide what these guides are we can decide on any links between them and how they might fit into the story.
