Well, just for grins and giggles I tried the site again today. Whoa! It was so much faster!!!! I hooked up a mouse and tackled the test a few more times. I got an eighty like three times, so I decided to leave it be. Figured that was probably an accurate evaluation of my reflexes.

So then I came back here to post about it and started reading about the ***gasp*** cheating! Out of curiosity, I did click on the link provided, and found that Dark UFO had removed the post. That's as far as I went looking for it. I guess I think like most of you all, that if they have to cheat it will come back to get them. I was curious as to the method only.

You know, Hoodlum ought to think quite seriously about hiring a panel of ARGers to run their game BEFORE it goes public. They obviously don't have the skills to pick apart their own games. But I tell you, let some of the experienced crew around here at it, and all your bugs will be found!!
Very Happy

PS: As to what the barcoded ID cards are for.....I have a theory. They might come into play later on as an investigative puzzle....like, "tell us what your check number is." Or they may just simply be eye candy.

People have found a way to do that. There are reports of people getting a score of 900.

Which would never work considering the most anybody can get in one turning is 100. I think it would be figured out, as long as it's monitored.

It doesn't mean that they can't get the score of 900, and you do not know if the leaderboard will or will not show that.

Didn't say it would be impossible for them to get it, for that reason... Just that if they somehow happened to and it showed like that on the leaderboard, they would have just wasted their time because there's no physical way for them to get that score w/o cheating. /shrug.

Besides the 'cheat' has been removed now.

So on another topic does it automatically log your last score? Because I see nowhere which says to save it.

And isn't your photo s'posed to appear on the ID Card when you DL it? Mine hasn't...

This is the internet. Anything once posted on here stays on here forever. If you want it bad enough, you could find the cheat.

And you're still a stubborn antagonist.

Hoodlum can technically "DQ" or just ignore the scores of, anyone visibly cheating. End of.

I was just stating a fact. And i highly doubt that Hoodlum would disqualify anyone. They most likely do not have the power to ban anyone, and if they did, it wouldn't change anything. People can find ways around bans.

actually, the way the cheat was made, it pretty much looks like it was made to be found. I won't give it away but the way it's done, it looks like they wanted it found. Didn't they have dummy stations on the island to Test people so the others could watch them ? they made them think they were doing something worth doing. anyway, that's just how it looks to me. and I got a measly 79% without cheating.

You're talking about the Pearl staton. It's possible, i guess. It would fall in line with the speech in the intro about "human ingenuity". But this game has been so glitched....

I did not get to see the cheat, but I am interested in what was involved. My guess is that it has to do with how the score is encoded in a block of data and then sent back to their servers for storage. People with packet sniffers can easily look for that sort of communication, then mock up their own packet and send it.

I believe a similar cheat was used during the Primacy ARG's game of Chain Factor. That was also a Flash-based game, with a leader board. The bogus scores were removed, and the game was upgraded to include a check for tampering.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I *thought* it had something to do with using the "help" button to freeze time....but there has to be more to it than that.

Has anyone noticed that the longer you play the more distorted the playing field gets?

I had to restart my computer and it went back to the beginning, plain square. I don't know if it was because I played it that much but I did have it up on my computer most of the day.

When I noticed it was changing I just started canceling and retrying the game to see how far it would go.
