I guess what I meant was that if it was a more physical thing, it'd have some recognizable structure of sorts. Like if it was more interactive for us. Golden Spiral, etc. The fact that it IS more like a networking web than an actual, tangible web (metaphorically and all) means that I'm thinking it's not as real-world interactive as it might seem (or we might want). Remember it was STARTED by the SPDR, that's why I was thinking web. I'm just saying that if it's supposed to be more tangible interaction points for us, it would follow more of a recognizable pattern, it seems. The seemingly lack of real-world relationships (they don't have anything in common it seems!) makes me think virtual, not physical, meanings.

Let's keep the motive burning on the back for a while too, I think it'll lead us to more answers than just analyzing the axons.

The problem is, for those of us that need to take time off and do a bit of traveling to get to the locations, waiting until that morning to see if anything is really happening isn't luxury we have.

I'd love to see an unambiguous mesage from the PMs that we should definitely be visiting these coordinates *HINTHINT*.

ok, I have begun corelating the points that have/havn't moved.

The ordering of the points seems to have changed (I haven't looked into this too hard, I had to sort them to be able to match pairs)

Most points seem to not have moved (well, 60-70%). So far I have found the following points have been 'created' (i.e. were not on the origanal list)

Anyone got any ideas?

Has anyone taken the coordinates and connected the dots in order of time yet? I think it was mentioned before but I haven't seen a response.

[spec] T-U-R-T-L-E payphones.

Check these lyrics from "T-U-R-T-L-E Power"

Our police and detectives are furious,
'Cause they can't find the source,
Of this lethally evil force.
This is serious so give me a quarter.
I was a witness, get me a reporter!

check these lyrics from Roxanne by The Police:

(in whiny voice) Roxanne! You don't have to put on the red light!

um... what's your point, Johnny? Wink

[SPEC]

Since a number of folks are trying to speculate on how these coordinates might apply to in-game events or plot, let's see what you think of this notion. At any point correct me if my assumptions or my inferences are wrong, I'm still relatively new to this ARG and doing my best to come up to speed.

1) Melissa / The Operator keeps ranting about reconstructing a body for herself.
2) She also mentions escaping to return to "wherever [she] was", which at least is some point in space, right?
3) Now we've got a table a GPS decimal coordinates that appear linked to the notion of Axons, Melissa reaching out from her central location.
4) The time schedule assigned to the GPS coordinates revolves through a 12 hour cycle. As I understand it, the GPS satellites have orbital periods of 12 hours. So within the 12 hour cycle given with the coordinates, every GPS satellite that will overpass the U.S. will do so.

So the speculative part is this: I'd suggest Melissa is arranging the means and the plan to insert herself into a new body, being the GPS satellite system. I'm not ready to speculate on what would be accomplished afterward, but this seems to satisfy motives of escape, getting back into space, and getting back into a physical body.

thats an intersting point. I had been trying to think what had a period of 12 hours. This needs to be investigated further.

Thinking from a plot pov again, we have the Queen making more precise 'roads' with more precise (more digits) co-ordinates. Just a note really. In that whole SPDR vd Queen thing I also thought about the fact that the SPDR just went roughly to the places, and the queen getting more accurately, but she seems to have totaly changed many, and I can't see why.

Also, there is still the mystery of the water co-ordinates, neither of them are near the origanal water co-ordinate are they?

Sorry for questions and no answers, but this is doing my head in :p

I'm hoping Melissa's building a network, like a giant radio telescope to send a distress signal. However, since the flea is doing it now it seems, has the motive changed? Since we've analyzed the physical/technical aspect of this quite well, maybe we need to work on the motive, and that might open more doors into the phys/tech aspects.

I like the idea of a radio telescope (goes along with building a voice and sending a signal). I know I am going into troutable Haloverse here, but I think understanding the motivations is very important. If, as seems to be the dominant spec, the Flea is a Covenant Parasite AI (or something along those lines), it would make sense that its signalling device would be structured differently than the one that SPDR was originally laying out, hence the radically changed coordinates.

The question I wonder about is why is it so important to send out a signal, for both sides? The only thing I can think of would be some information about the Forerunner's artifact mentioned in the last e-mail.

If this is the case, we may have the hook right into Halo 2's plotline (without bringing MC and Cortana to 2004):

The Flea's signal will travel interstellar distances and in the future bring the Covenant to Earth in search of the Artifact. This happens to tie in very nicely with the little we think we know of Halo 2's plot, which is that the Covenant is trying to retrieve a Forerunner artifact from Earth.

With this as an hypothesis, would it be possible to extrapolate from the times and coordinates, what the target in space for such a signal is? Or how it may have shifted from the first layout? Any astronomers in the house?

I do not want to give in to just waiting for next Tuesday!

Actually, she seems more interested in getting a voice than a body, and using that voice to report back/ask for help.

And yet, I am shipwrecked here. If I want to signal for help, to give my location, or, most of all to report on anything that might lead to the the truth, I must be a starfish, growing strange new limbs to replace the ones fate has hacked away.

If I can learn to talk again, I will need to field-rig a way to make that talking heard.

Perhaps later I will build a ship. First, I am building a voice.

If you want to shout for help when help is a long way away, you need two things: a voice, and a mechanism for transmitting it.

Voice not completely necessary for the purest form of data transmission, of course. But it's a multi-purpose tool: not just signaling, but key for psy-ops and undercover work. "A pleasing voice is the single most important component to a UI that will engender trust and confidence in a ship's crew." Can't remember who said that, now. Or when.

It seems to me the emphasis has always been on communitcation rather than building a body. So whatever is happening, I think it's best to assume that she is trying to send out a signal via these axons, rather than use them to escape.

Another non-US player feeling left out.

I think it's funny, I believe we pressured the PMs into making this mean something.

I am pretty well up on radioastronomy and basicly you can point your telescope anywhere, nomatter how it is distributed. It is simply a matter of pointing all the elements at a spot and interpolating the results. Same would work for a transmitter, I guess.

I did consider the transmitter idea (what with the transmit id tags and all) but I can't really think what it means. That said it makes more (or at least as much) sense as the payphone theory.

The thing with the times is that maybe it's like a firefly buzzing back and forth across the US, that could be seen as a encoded message I suppose. ( I think this has been discussed, but without times. Perhaps we should do classify the jumps into big and small and see if they make a binary pattern or something) This makes more sense with the times.

having read the above posts, I would say that I now think the #1 theory should be a comunications array of some kind.

p.s. I am also non US

What if the transmitter was just pointed 90 degrees up from each point, straight intot he sky?

Then again, there are no physical structures that we have found at these points to support this... ack, they had better not be giving out issues of OXM's preview next Tuesday after I've been burning out so many brain cells on this.

Maybe we're seeing a search for something, and the spots that aren't changing are the significant spots.

If that's the case, then why bother making the new spots really interesting? All four previous Cleveland coords were uninteresting or inaccessible, so I'm fine nixing those. But the new spots seem to be highly relevant and well-chosen: one is across the street from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; the other two are very distinct spots on a nearby college campus (Case Western Reserve.)

I can't see the PMs spending all of this time to pick out certain locations, and to coerce us to visit certain spots - at certain times, no less - if they're completely useless. That would add nothing to the game while alienating players.

6:11 is Cleveland's Barking Spider Tavern

which fits the 'queen finding a voice' theory,
but would probably not be a good place to hang around next Tuesday. Unless you like beer for breakfast.
