LOL @ Pancito, and thanks Very Happy

I don't see why not, konamouse. Go ahead if you would like Smile I emailed Bobbie to let her know we got it, but that's the only person I've told.

Sorry for the double post. There was an email waiting for me when I got home.

We just got two more pieces so we seem to only be missing 1 shard to complete the picture of a yellow Greek pot. Analysis of the symbols has started.
From whence did you get this photo?

Very interesting and I am so glad that other pieces have been sent out to you. I am very interested in what the story might be.

The piece arrived through an email from Sherry Moyes. We have been in contact because Lara needs a safe place to stay if things get too hot in Texas. Sending her to Fee isn't an option, as Fee could still be a target herself.

Please let me know what transpires with the pottery?

Email From Bobbie

Just got another email from Bobbie a little while ago:

Quote:
WOW! You are good. Pecti-Wita writing? This will have my language pros in a stir. How did you ever find the source? You are amazing Jacks. Baggedand tagged as we say in the archaeological game. Smile

By searching out the coordinates and some dumb luck, Aga and I found this: http://www.maplandia.com/iran/ilam/. After finding Rakas/Ilam we found this map and noodling around, I see something near the city of Al Amarah that looks promising. An arrow head shaped water feature.

I am still confused by the Gazelle Lake reference.... Maybe you and your team can look at it and see if you see a Gazelle. Brenda says she sees a "Hopi rabbit" type shape, without the ears, and maybe a human figure. I think maybe I see what out relic vandal is talking about, but there's a lot of little lakes there and I'm wondering if I'm imagining things.

I'm looking at the overview, and this is very close to the Iran/Iraq border.... Finding the tomb may not be the most pressing issue we will have with this part of the expedition.

Again, thnak you so much for saving my bacon.

All my best,
Missouri Hope

I've looked at this map for at least an hour and the only thing I could find that remotely reminded me of a gazelle was this. Look around and let me know what you think.

Not sure how much of this needs to be spoilered. Not that I can figure out how to spoiler the image!! Mod help please?
[edit - no reason to spoiler this, the puzzle has been solved on the previous page and Jacks already posted an image above; however, any way you can link to a smaller version of this image? - kona]

This map shows the latitude and longitude Jacks translated. She does say it's "near al Amarah."

The map of the area is here:

You all take a look, I'm not having much luck finding anything on it.

I did find a reference to a Gazelle Lake but it isn't in that area. There is an Egyptian story about a pharaoh meeting with his men at a Gazelle Lake to prepare for battle. This may or may not be relevant, though.

Reference book 1

Reference book 2

Sorry for the long URLs.
[edit - fixed the urls with imbedding - kona]

Jacks figured it out - Persian pottery (not Greek):
--------------
It was written using Pictish swirl script, used by the Pecti-Wita magical tradition.

Rakas, Iran
32 deg. 29 min. 3 sec. North
47 deg. 30 min. 10 sec. East

S. Archers Lagoon
N. Cliff Cave
Gazelle Lake

Greek Pillars mark her tomb
--------------
Does this ring any bells?

Thank you konamouse. It's very interesting that it's Persian pottery, as that would be the "end game" point of the story of the four.

Bells? Not a one, I'm afraid... LOL I am looking at a map of Iran, and can't find "Rakas" anywhere. I do see a lake or lagoon that seems to be in the shape of an arrow head, or spear point, and another arrow shape that points into it. As for Gazelles, that is another thing that I don't see listed.

Maybe these are names the person who came up with the message made up due to topography?

Thank you so much for the update. I will not share this with Lara, just so she won't have information that could be pried from her. Right now, she is "out sick" from VG, and will try to stay out of there for at least a few more days.

All my best.

Sorry, I forgot to say that I spent a couple of hours with the map last night and couldn't even find the area Jacks found. I thought there might be something else.

I'll post the pic of the area where that little lake is. It's due west of the arrow looking lake. I found what I think is the human figure and Hopi rabbit with no ears lakes, and the gazelle head looking lake is just SW of the rabbit looking lake. The lakes are in the Al Amarah area.

It's the only thing I have found that is remotely close to what they are looking for. I'm going to send the pics to Bobbie as well.

Edit: Sorry about the red text, I didn't realize it was that hard to read until after I had finished it.

Things are beginning to be decided

Bobbie is being good to me. I think she find me attractive, friendly. Can she love me? This I can not say.

We spend long time over last day or two walking in the vineyards, talking. She hear everything I have to say and she truly understand my confused thinking on my history. But I think she not understand as well.

Bobbie is American woman. And Americans not so concerned about family history, I think. She say "So what? You come from people that obviously were good people. I do not mean two thousand years ago. I mean those within your life time. You know the country from which you come. If you are not related to Leonidas, you still have a deep family history that you can be proud of. Be you Aga. Do not worry about who was before Aga. We, I, respect Aga. It does not matter if you are from Leonidas or Gorgo or Rasputin or the Queen of Sheba. You are Aga and we care about you, Aga."

The Queen of Sheba, this make me laugh. Bobbie make me laugh.

I think that I could be happy in this America. I come to know this is important to Bobbie. That a man that wish to be with her, must be happy in her America. She travel and she have the adventure. But she love so many in this America. She have her peoples that she must be with to be happy.

We face great danger in the coming time. Maybe as we comes through this danger, I will be grateful to be in America too. I can not say anything about what is to come. Peoples are certainly watching us, in all ways. Some are friendly, some wishes us dead. We must move with caution, every body here know this.

The Butterflies tell us that the histories, they are open to us. We read so much and know so much. Peoples are now telling us the stories of their families, their lives. We are welcome to be like members of the order. We talk of everythings. Ben is my new brother. Brenda is my new sister. I love these peoples. I love this place. I feel I must leave it soon, or I will stay here forever.

We have all that we came for here. They keep every promise. I must says this again - they keep every promise. More than this I can not say. I promise Bobbie this.

I just wanted to pop by to say that I've been working on this too, but really haven't been making any progress. It doesn't help that depending on which level of zoom you're on in Google Maps, some of the images are from rainy season and some are from dry, changing the shapes of the lakes. Confused

I did want to say "WAY TO GO JACKS!" for the puzzle solve. And I definitely think that the Gazelle lake looks like a gazelle, just laying down with it's head turned back. Kinda like this: link

Thanks Wink

I have scoured that whole area trying to find something that seemed a little more fitting, but that lake is still the closest thing I can find to a gazelle. I sent both pics to Bobbie and am waiting to hear something back from her. I was hoping that since she mentioned the "human figure" and "Hopi rabbit" shaped lakes that the gazelle lake would be in the same vicinity.

I've had a look at the maps and found this lake near Al Amarah that looks kinda like a gazelle.
