Sorry if its been noted already, but the new gizmo on the filing cabinet on the AFAO website bears a striking resemblance to a Muirhead Mufax D649, a primitive late 40's fax machine. The front panel of the machine has been changed(most likely for copyright reasons), but its obviously the same machine. Here's a couple pictures for comparison:

So its a fax machine. Not sure what significance it might have, but I thought it was worth pointing out.

Yeah, I suspected this, but just checked on my home computer now that I'm off work and yes, I can't run node4b7 either. While I was working through the Node4b7 puzzle I noticed that A) sometimes the percentage complete would jump by 8 or 9 percent with each one that I solved but sometimes would only be like 1 percent which B) corresponded to how fast I solved each one, a fast solve yielded a smaller percentage, C) it was at 11% when I started and D) on the forums we all seemed to get sequentially further percentage-wise at the same time, and D) now Node4b7 is down all of which leads me to believe that this was a community puzzle that was a one-time-only solve - there were a couple thousand different ones and we were all working together to complete them all at which point SRPA crashed & rebooted (and possibly all the different sites got torched, raided, shut down, etc.), which then triggered the phone call.

Sucks that you aren't able to do the puzzle if you missed it, but gives me a very cool sense of teamwork.

Spec Trout, that was pretty much suggested during the puzzle or beforehand, I remember seeing a lot of mention of that.

Oops. Wow. So I totally missed the page in this very thread where you guys brought that up. Too caught up in all the excitement and working towards the solve, I guess. Well, I'll just claim I was rehashing to enlighten aIex. Laughing

Maybe we'll be contacted by AAA later on via the machine?

These two theories missed something big. The Chimera were not here during the last ice age ten thousand years ago as originally thought. They were here ten million years ago. This, however, gives plenty of credence to the idea that the Chimera are native to Earth.

"I was once, just like you, and just like them..."

At some point in their civilization, the original Chimera start modifying themselves. The opposition ("them") get crushed. The modified Chimera win, and become increasingly power hungry. This is where the idea of assimilation comes into play. At some point during all of this, they leave Earth, abandoning the few originals that remained.

"You think you created me, but I've been waiting for an eternity. Waiting...for the reunion."

The first part literally refers to how many people thought (and many still do) think the Chimera were the result of some Russian experiment gone terribly, terribly wrong. The second part? Well, ten million years certainly would qualify as an eternity. Now, the reunion. The last thing - the very last thing - the Chimera want to do is reclaim Earth. The only problem is that we rose up in their absence. Why are we so important? The originals. When the Chimera left Earth, the originals knew the Chimera would return more powerful than they ever could be. However, they saw light in a particular species of ape, promoting their evolution into man.

The only problem with humanity right now is Project Abraham.

Is PA really a problem? The whole point is to find that 15% that still have the Chimeran traits lurking in their DNA. Of course this means we're pulling out the people who have (may have?) the ability to kill Chimera, but there are some serious limitations. Between our own "experimenting" and the Chimeran attacks, at least 85% of the population is going to die/assimilate/cease to be human. Can a small group of super humans with "advanced" weaponry really hope to fight off a race that has had millions of years to evolve and prepare to reclaim the planet. I'd call PA more of a nuisance, a small swarm of gnats buzzing around your head. Annoying as all get out, but not likely to completely destroy you.

A little devil's advocation never hurt anybody, right? Very Happy

Those lines are from one of the trailer videos for Resistance 2, if I can find which one, I will post the link here for you.

I think we will still have at least one more upate after the Seatle event. There is one folder empty in AFAO for a newspaper (number 8 ), so I guess this could be used for that.

I do hope that they go on with something. I think that if they wanted to finish here, all they had to do is to delete the node4b7 file, they didn't need to delete also commanderholiday or ppg or create a new version for the terminal... what do you think? I haven't played any other ARG previously, so I don't know what to expect. Do they usually finish like this? The game will be released in November, so there are about 3 months and a half to go, I feel that leaving it here will not give them the purpose (the marketing purpose) of the ARG, while if you go on until the previous days before the game is released, people is still involved in the story and it's more likely they will buy the game to see "what happens next". Leaving 2 months between the end of the ARG and the release of the game is too much.. but as i said before, this is my first ARG and I don't know what to expect. What are your experiences about this? Is it normal that they finish an ARG so early before the product they are promoting is released? hasanyone played any other ARG from 42 entertainment before?

Well, considering "what happens next" is Resistance 1, not 2, that might not work in this case.

I think most of the veterans here have played a 42 ARG. The list includes:

The Beast.
Year Zero.
Last Call Poker.
The Dark Knight.
This ARG.
I love Bees.
Cathy's Book.
Dead Man's Tale.
Vanishing Point.
Hex 168.
MSN Found.

I was part of the Dark Knight ARG. I think we played it up until about a week before we saw the movie? Does that sound right? I remember getting the ticket to the early screening and having to wait a few days...

So this doesn't help anyone now, but when I decoded the file for this past weeks I saw that the program I used also had a "Duplo hell" mode, that when I ran the first radio file through it (from Hales week) it translated it perfectly.

We did it the absolute hardest way possible by using a spectrograph.

We were WAY off.

Congrats to thebruce for cracking a true radio code using a spectrograph however. Thats insane.

Yeah, tell me about it. I was never able to play along as it happened because of the time of day, but I did like coming home on Tuesdays and Fridays and doing my best to play play sans spoilers. Imagine my surprise when I logged on last night and saw Cassie's desk all trashed and the doc number didn't work in srpa.

I don't know that we have reached the end, but it was a very anti-clamatic ending IMO. I'm sure it was great for those who were around for it though.

Resistance 1 takes place over four days.

And Resistance 2 is right after that. I'm not sure what your point is.

This is most likely 100% a trout post, and I realize outlines were found for the history after PA was shut down in SRPA, but did anybody notice the note summarizing each week? If so, I'll edit this out later.
