[SPEC/SPEC stopper] female captain...

I know that there has been a lot of speculation in a number of threads as to the identity of the ship that crashed (applebee, lark, etc.). I am not very familiar with the halo books, but hopefully someone will know this. Was the captain of any of these ships female? Because in the dialogue between Melissa and McKaskill, it is apparent that the captain is a woman:
Quote:
You know that. I heard the Captain. The way she's talking, they're not gonna let people look at, it's goin' to a basement in ONI

Is this significant or am I just regurgitating useless info???

There are no references in any of the novels to the captains of any of the three ONI steath "yachts" mentioned. There is unfortunately insufficient information about this for us to build a meaningful speculation.

-- Steve suspects that we won't see any characters from the novels or the game here in ILB... it'd cramp Bungie's ability to use them in the sequels, for one.

For some reason I have a strong feeling that the ship that crashed is the ship Master Cheif can be seen jumping out of and descending to earth from in the Halo 2 announcement trailer and that MC is the castaway.

I dont know why, pure spec. Rolling Eyes

I'm kinda getting forced to pull away from as much confidence that I once had that Melissa's ship is the Applebee. The problem is that I had assumed that the many castle/forte references referred back to CASTLE, which I guess is the ONI base on Reach (where the Applebee & Lark are known to have been).

But Princess is getting so allegorical about nearly anything that I don't feel certain much of anything she says is supposed to be taken literally, so the Reach references feel more vague. And as mentioned, we know very little about the Applebee and her crew, so it's hard to pin down. We just know that it fits Melissa's description - but so could other ONI stealth ships that have never been mentioned in the Haloverse.

Course, I still think the bee<->bee thing is a bit too coincidental ... but as we know more about Melissa it might make more sense than a reference to her old ship. So I'm still leaning towards it, but I'm lacking evidence to make a statement about it anymore.

I think Rexmundi has the best explanation for the bee imagery in this post. Melissa=bee, no need for bee<-->bee stretches.

Oh, I dunno about that. Chances are SPDR choose ILB, not Melissa (she had a case of the dead at the time). Plus, she's using it more and more extensively - and the fact that a civilization thousands of years before her time made a connection between her and a Queen Bee might explain the "Queen" moniker (probably does - it would make sense since the voices using it tend to steal literature to make their speeches) - it doesn't go so far as to explain her recent behavior.
