[Trailhead?] Mushroom Men Trailhead, Viral Marketing or Both? Hey all, long time no see!
Anyhoo, I used to work for LAGTV but moved to a different production company about a month ago. I was watching their coverage of PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) this weekend and noticed a frantic gentlemen approach one of the hosts and interviewee Chad Barron, producer of the video game Mushroom Men . The gentleman was ranting, "This is not a game! This is real. They're in my garden. Go to my website and see."
You can check out the video here or here . It begins 1:38:00 in.
He gave his website as http://tatertotco.wordpress.com. At the site he has documented some disturbances and asked for help. He has also interacted within the comments section of his blog.
I have no time to delve into this further, but thought I would pass it along. Sorry if it has been mentioned already.

That guy is plum crazy. Maybe someone is just playing a practical joke on him.
ETA: Julie thinks he might be out of his tree also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0t6MgZ6IgQ&feature=user
Also of note, one of julie's subscribers is RedFlyStudios and after doing a google search I came upon this page as well as many others promoting a new game "Mushroom Men" http://devblog.redflystudio.com/2008/07/28/pre-order-goodness-for-mushroom-men/

Natas, I'm not sure if you checked the video's but the guy does interrupt an actual inverview at a 'Con' with the producer of "Mushroom Men" the game, out both for the D.S and the Wii (Although the D.S version is going to be a prequel to the Wii version).
If this was already knowledge to you, I apologize lol.

The Technical Director (TD) filming that interview called and said he had the "crazy old guy's" business card.
You have to remember, this is a techie console gamer that cares not about chaotic fiction, viral marketing, cross-media, alternate reality etc. forms of entertainment/art.
Tapped doesn't have time (doesn't care enough) to scan it, but he says he has Tatertotco's business card. He reluctantly told me, in detail, the content on that card. Don't know if it will help, but I felt obligated to share the info:
Quote:
m/d totco instrumentation
"The end is beneath our feet!" (this was hand written)
David Tater, Totco Owner and engineer
tatertotco.wordpress.com
He said there were no images on the card.

Finally, I think I found a place where people might listen. Look, this is not a game or fiction or whatever... Mushroom Men are real and they are on my property. I have been going all around the hypertext Internet trying to warn people about what is happening. Soon, I will have to venture back into my property and see what things have happened while I was away. Last time I checked, they had arcane weapons and even seemingly religious artifacts. This is no joke. I believe they are very dangerous. I am scared of what may happen to me when I venture back in. Pray for me.

Just lurking here (I'm not very interested in the actual game, either), but the rules are clear: no posting in the forums. Listen, it doesn't mean you can't declare everything said here as part of the game's reality. In Red Monday it was handled pretty well, as it was explicit that the characters could read whatever was in here, while avoiding posting. You can do this more subtly by contacting each player directly, instead of posting in the forum. You can even speak about the forum in your blog if you feel like it. Just don't speak here directly.

It's ironic that you're making this observation in public, as your own response would have been better served by a private message. Also, whether or not you're 'interested' in Mushroom Men isn't germane to the discussion in any conceivable way.
I'm making this observation in public because posts like this take potential players out of the game. Personally I'm a fan of TINAG. TINAG is the most appealing aspect of ARGs. If an in-game character violates forum rules through ignorance, an explanatory pm advising deletion of the offending post is infinitely more helpful than TINAG-destroying responses.

Actually, it's nice if the players are able to help uphold the TOS of the forums, as well as keep the administration informed in regards to any potential TOS violations. Hence, public commentary is perfectly fine, regardless of what your personal preferences are, and should not be shunned. PMs (and their characters) are not allowed to post in their game threads. Pointing out the PM error seems fair, and actually a courtesy to the PM (I'd like to be warned first, rather than finding myself unable to post at all).
Furthermore, as UF is completely Out of Game, it naturally violates the TINAG concept as you describe it, so I don't really understand why players (or anyone else) should be admonished for posting something Meta, such as the above.
In general, if you have questions about how the forum rules should be applied, it is best to contact a moderator or administrator of the forums, rather than start a war over semantics between your fellow forum members.
Edit for grammar.

Luckily, there's more than one way to play a game!
Also, taking an interest in the general community and observing how much the Puppetmasters are (not) respecting the boundaries here is pretty topical in this case.
(woop, cross-posted with the same sentiment!)
