Isn't it very likely that these coordinates will change again and even the times may change. If some of them are still in the ocean it seems like they almost have to change. Also if we are supposed to be at these locations at specific times it seems likely that they wouldn't have more than one event in a given city, especially hours apart.

wishi-san,

I diffed your list entries against the site and the following are off:

line 4: 07:27 41.652214 -070.289091 (should be 06:19 41.652214 -070.289091)
line 21: 07:27 41.652214 -070.289091 (should be 07:27 39.911569 -086.215736)
line 52: 09:23 37.033333 -122.321944 (should be 09:23 47.617222 -122.321944)
line 176: 16:39 39.977780 -105.131390 (should be 15:47 39.977780 -105.131390)
line 208: 17:55 36.983333 -122.315278 (should be 17:55 47.616389 -122.315278)

However, I should've also said earlier, great job.

maybe reaching on this one, but -

13:38 is someone's detached house in Bethel Park PA. (acme url)

The parking lot described in this article:
Bees Find a Better Home
is about 1 km away. I'm guessing this is why the Queen chose this location, although her accuracy on this one seems as bad as SPDR's.

Huh. I wasn't aware that parking lots, vacant fields, and spots in the Pacific Ocean have websites. Wink

Spots in the ocean have been corrected, David. Feel free to be sarcastic about something else though! Please don't flame someone for their spec... it's bad form. If you want to outline why you see fault in a spec that's fine, but you're just being rude. There's no need for that. We're all working together on this.

I think it would be incredibly inept for the PMs to build up this level of interest, and then obliterate it by clumsily exploting this as a marketing opportunity. Why get everyone on the hook and then dink them around to say "Be sure to drink your Ovaltine?"

"Dink them around?" Didn't I write "clumsily exploit" or something to that effect? I'm completely at a loss to understand how I wrote anything that needed softening.

Might I suggest taking a few deep breaths prior to posting again?

Ah - I see that now. This is the first mention I'd caught of the correction.

The Wink was intended to demonstrate that I was gently ribbing the poster on his spec. I don't see how you can construe that comment as "rude" in any way.

You must not have seen any of the vicious troutings that were commonplace in Cloudmakers. The level of decorum is much higher in this forum, thankfully, but if people start objecting to gentle, humorous sarcasm, this will not be a fun discussion group.

I think you're being overly sensitive, in this and other threads. I think you should let the recipients of the responses comment for themselves if they're offended.

not to take a side in this argument or anything, but you both have a point. he did wink dorkmaster, and that should have let the recipient know he was just raggin on him. however david, i will say that others may feel too intimidated to respond to your jabs if they dont know you are kidding.

however, in this instance, i believe it is all just a misunderstanding. no harm done eh?

With regards to these physical locations. Did someone originally mess up the coords like the e-mail implies or are they revising the puzzle because we're not seeing what we're suppossed to be and covering it up by saying the SPDR must have messed up. Why post the original coords at all?

Granted, the PST to PDT did seem like a mess up.

Good point, indeed. Why change the co-ords -- either these are correct and the previous ones weren't (in which case, a week's worth of wasted work for some who've actually travelled to these places) or there is something important in the changes made and we should look at the difference as well as both sets of co-ords on their own. Sure, the changing fits with the story, but they could have been changed earlier or one-by-one -- it's a lot of work we're doing here if the only purpose is to illustrate the Queen's control over everything now.

Will they change again? They've already changed a bit today - is that due to sloppy PMs (surprising) or an indicator of the fact that they will keep changing, to discourage us from physically visiting them? Is this only part of a puzzle -- will we need this information in a week, rather than now? so many questions..

Edit to add; If we're not seeing what we're supposed to be, surely more clues would be the best approach, rather than completely changing the data?

(META)
I'm guessing that the coords will keep changing as we get closer to the 24th - and that each change will make it somewhat easier to figure out the solution to the puzzle. Kind of like the trivia games they have at bars, where you get bigger and bigger clues as the coutner runs down. I think each time the coords update, the pattern will be easier to spot. Likewise, whatever ISN'T changing could be seen as the true pattern thus far.

devil's advocate

Just stirring the poop here, but what if the timer is a timer for us. i mean what if we have to solve the puzzle by the time it gets to zero? It doesn't make as much sense as it did a few days ago, but what if when Melissa goes "wide awake" she leaves and the game ends? Maybe this is all just a crazy goose chase to keep the addicted fans at bay until the game actually comes out. Oh and... for the record, trout is good. I like trout. Bring it!

I was wondering whether the addition of the timestamps is the added clue to help us along. Obviously they were added to accomplish something, but what if the times werent' meant to be taken literally as temporal coords, but rather a way to enforce the ordering of the coordinates? Instead of thinking that something will "happen" at each place at each time, is there anything to be read into the specific order in which the points are listed?

I'm curious to see if there are any similarities between points that were moved. I'm defining a "moved point" as a coord at a specifici location inthe original list with a diff coord at the same location in the new list. I realize there are fewer points now, so that may throw kink in my ideas. But if there are similarities between moved points inthe list (i.e. road names, building names, etc), that could point to a "message" (I'm pretty much on the fence when it comes to the "message in the points" vs. "be there or be square" debate)

Perhaps the queen is culling the chaff from the wheat with the shorter list, and that friday we will see a smaller list with more information.
